Espn's Sal Palentonio has reported that Jason Taylor will play in tonight's opener against the Giants.

Our View:The team will probably still use Taylor sparingly with a rotation at left end, meaning he shouldn't be starting in your fantasy lineup.
September 3, 2008
Jason Taylor is listed as questionable for Thursday's opener against the division rival Giants, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:He worked with the team trainer's before Sunday's practice and experimented with assorted knee braces, but is seems unlikely he will be ready to play. If he does play, the team would use him sparingly with a rotation at left end, meaning he should not be penciled into fantasy lineups.
September 2, 2008
Jason Taylor, who is nursing a sprained knee, participated in a limited practice Tuesday, according to the Washington Post. He tried several knee braces during his session. Coach Jim Zorn said he will be a game-time decision and added, "I'd say it's easily 50-50 whether he plays or not."

Our View:If Taylor does play, Zorn anticipates a rotation at left end, given the two weeks of practice Taylor has missed. Fantasy owners should not be counting on Taylor for this weekend, and should opt for more favorable options.

Washington defensive end Jason Taylor's sprained knee likely will make him a game-day decision as to whether he'll play in the Thursday season opener at the Giants, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:In case he can’t go, Demetric Evans likely will be the replacement starter, but the team is confident that Erasmus James can help out too. James got into his first action against the Panthers, the game Taylor got hurt in, and rallied from a slow start. Head coach Jim Zorn said James needed to get more snaps, and it’s becoming obvious that James was a strong candidate for the roster, even without Taylor’s injury. Evans also will continue to get snaps at tackle, although perhaps not as much with Taylor out of the lineup.
August 26, 2008
Jason Taylor. who is nursing a sprained right knee, is hopeful he will be ready for Week 1, according to the Washington Post. He has not been ruled out and said, "I'm not one for missing games."

Our View:He has started 130 straight regular season games, and does not count on ending his streak.
August 24, 2008
Washington coach Jim Zorn has confirmed that an MRI Sunday showed that Jason Taylor suffered only a sprained knee Saturday night in Charlotte, believing Taylor will be out 10 days to two weeks as a result, according to the Washington Post. Zorn said, the team will proceed cautiously with him

Our View:Zorn said the team will proceed cautiously with him. That means that whether he is ready for the opener isn't certain yet. Zorn would prefer, obviously, to have him for the last 15 games rather than the opener. That timetable would, though, put Taylor's streak starting 130 regular-season games in jeopary. The injury initially looked serious, with Taylor writhing on the ground and screaming. He limped off the field, however, and was treated briefly on the sideline. Then he was taken to the locker room, where X-rays were negative.

Updating one of yesterday's top stories, Washington defensive end Jason Taylor suffered a sprained right knee on Saturday night in preseason action against the Carolina Panthers, according to the NFL Network.

Our View:Taylor reportedly screamed in pain after getting caught in a pile up. He walked off the field on his own, but he put little pressure on his right leg. According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Taylor suffered no ligament damage. He was examined by Dr. James Andrews, who happened to be at the game.
August 23, 2008
Jason Taylor left Saturday's game with a sprained right knee, according to the AP. He was hurt when his leg bent awkwardly after he ended up in the middle of a pile. Taylor immediately screamed in pain and was attended to for several minutes on the field before walking off the field on his own, though he put little pressure on his leg.

Our View:We'll let you know more on Taylor when we receive more information.
August 12, 2008
Redskins defensive end Jason Taylor is suffering from a case of plantar fasciitis and missed practice today, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:The malady could show up from time to time, but the Redskins say they will monitor the situation.
July 22, 2008
Jason Taylor is listed as a DE/OLB on the Redskins' training camp roster, and he has been issued number 55, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:He will primarily work as a standard defensive end, but will also see time with his hand up as an outside linebacker. Defensive coordinator Geg Blache is going to find creative ways to utilize Taylor's talents in various packages this season, meaning he could make more plays, which will lead to more tackles and potentially more turnovers as well.
July 20, 2008
Updating an earlier story and recapping the top headline of the day, the Washington Redskins have responded to two season-ending injuries to defensive ends today by trading for Pro-Bowl end Jason Taylor , sending a 2nd-round draft pick in 2009 as well as a 6th-round draft pick from 2010 to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for his services, according to Redskins.com.

Our View:Taylor is currently under contract for the next two seasons, due to make $8.1 million in 2008. He has reportedly told the 'Skins he will not be requesting a new negotiation for a new contract and will serve those two years as currently laid out by that existing contract. Meanwhile, others in the industry are wondering why Washington was so quick to make the move after losing top defensive end Phillip Daniels to injury for the season. Many teams would have sought to extend the conversations and held Miami over the fire for a lesser cost, but instead the 'Skins have jumped with both feet and are now possessing one of the top pass rushers in the game for the next two seasons.
July 20, 2008
John Clayton of ESPN reports that the Redskins are targeting Jason Taylor following the season-ending knee injury sustained by Phillip Daniels Sunday.

Our View:Talks between the Redskins and Dolphins are said to be underway, and Taylor did previously state that he would like to play for a contender. It is not yet known what the Redskins will offer the Dolphins in exhange for Taylor.
July 18, 2008
Jason Taylor indicated in an interview with ESPN that he would not commit to training camp with the Dolphins and would still prefer to be traded to a contender, according to the Sun-Sentinel. He added, "I want to win games. I don't play this game for fame or money. It's fun when you play it and you win. t's about winning. Being 1-15 and being on the doorstep of 0-16 isn't what this game is about."

Our View:If Taylor sits out at the beginning of training camp, it probably won't last heading into the regular season. His plan is to play this season.
June 20, 2008
John Clayton of ESPN believes a deal to send Jason Taylor to Green Bay is unlikely. Talks between the Dolphins and Packers haven't developed to the point it could be considered a real possibility. Packers' GM Ted Thompson doesn't like to deal draft choices, and the cost of a second-rounder would go against his beliefs. The Packers are also pleased with what they already have at defensive end, as Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila is optimistic he will be ready for training camp despite a knee issue.

Our View:The Dolphins' asking price is still very high, and it will be difficult to move Taylor prior to training camp.
June 19, 2008
The Green Bay Packers have not had substantive talks with the Miami Dolphins regarding a potential trade for defensive end Jason Taylor, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Our View:The Packers inquired in passing about Taylor prior to the draft, and have checked in time to time with Miami, but the Dolphins asking price is still too high. Miami reportedly wants a first round pick, while Green Bay might be willing to surrender a second rounder.
June 18, 2008
It appears the Dolphins may be getting what they want as the Green Bay Packers are reported to have contacted Miami concerning their ability to trade for the services of defensive end Jason Taylor , according to the Green Bay Press Gazette.

Our View:With defensive end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila rehabbing the knee that was operated on in the offseason, the Packers have made an exploratory inquiry with the Miami Dolphins about Taylor. The Dolphins continue to show interest in keeping Taylor, but Taylor has said in the past that he would like to play one more season with a team that has a good chance of winning the Super Bowl.
June 7, 2008
Jason Taylor met with Bill Parcells to talk about Taylor's future with the Dolphins, but the meeting reportedly did not end favorably, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:Both Taylor and Parcells left the meeting without any better feelings regarding the situation, and Taylor still reportedly wants to be traded. Parcells told Taylor that trading him will be hard, because the market for a Pro Bowl defensive end like Taylor doesn't match his current value to the Dolphins.
June 6, 2008
Dolphins director of football operations Bill Parcells and Jason Taylor met at Grande Oaks Golf Club in Fort Lauderdale to discuss the defensive ends future with the team, this according to The Palm Beach Post. Details of the conversation were not immediately known according to the report.

Our View:On Thursday the AP reported that the team said they would not trade Taylor for anything less than a third-round pick, so expect the All Pro to be playing in Miami this season.
June 5, 2008
Bill Parcells commented that he wants Jason Taylor to be a member of the Dolphins this season, according to the AP. Parcells said, "Of course I want Taylor. Why wouldn’t you want one of the very best players?"

Our View:Parcells also called a "rift" between him and Taylor purely a fabrication. The team isn't expected to trade Taylor for anything less than a third-round draft pick, so he isn't likely to leave Miami.
June 4, 2008
Reports out of Miami have the Dolphins and embattled defensive end Jason Taylor making amends and coming together to move forward, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Our View:The Post is reporting the Dolphins have met with Taylor and (a) will support Taylor's decision to attend training camp when he feels he is ready to come aboard (and they will avoid the potential fines associated with such decisions, as long as it is not a detriment to the team), and (b) will continue to seek options to honor his desire for a trade. Bill Parcells stands by his statement that Taylor will either retire or play for the Dolphins this season, and Taylor submits his acceptance that the team must seek quality value in any trade offered. In the end, the team is supporting views that attending practice is a risk of injury and will weaken his value in trades, thus they will allow him to miss. On the other end, the Dolphins will continue to seek offers with hopes of finding something agreeable to all parties.
June 4, 2008
Coach Tony Sparano mentioned in a radio interview (WQAM 560) that he wants Jason Taylor to remain with the Dolphins, according to the Palm Beach Post. Sparano said, "I want to see Jason Taylor back here with the Miami Dolphins in uniform, out on the field, doing what he does best for the Miami Dolphins, and that’s running after quarterbacks and sacking quarterbacks. I think at the end of our visit, I know that Jason knows that that’s how I feel, and that’s how we feel as an organization right now."

Our View:Sparano previously stated that Taylor would not be at training camp, so both sides are seemingly coming closer together now.
June 1, 2008
Jason Taylor said in his press conference on Sunday that he hasn't demanded a trade, and he may be open to staying with the Dolphins. "I told the Dolphins from Day One that if it was best for the organization I would be open to a trade," Taylor informs the Palm Beach Post. "I’m playing ball in '08. If (a trade) doesn’t work out then I’m a Miami Dolphin. I love this place."

Our View:Taylor had more to say beyond the quotes we provided. It sounds like he's not terribly pleased with Bill Parcells and Tony Sparano, although Taylor tried to take the high road. Anyway, a trade seems like the best option for all involved.
June 1, 2008
Jason Taylor has scheduled a news conference for 11:30 a.m. EST on Sunday, the Miami Herald reports. The six-time Pro Bowl defensive end is expected to inform the media that he wishes to be traded to a contender.

Our View:Rumors of Taylor deals have been swirling for months, so we're not sure why he needs a press conference. Oh...that's right, he wants more face time.
May 31, 2008
More reports continue to hit the NFL wire today concerning the lack of interest in trading for veteran defensive end Jason Taylor , including today's report that the Baltimore Ravens have no interest in adding the pass rusher, according to South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Our View:ESPN reported the Dolphins were actively shopping their top pass rusher during the NFL Draft, seeking no less than a 2nd-round pick in exchange for Taylor. No teams took the bait, and recent reports on Baltimore sports radio shows indicated the Dolphins were engaged in conversations with the Ravens about a potential swap. Baltimore coach John Harbaugh claims he is not aware of any such talks and that he, as the team's coach, would harbor concerns about Taylor's age, salary, and somewhat troubling relationship with former Dolphins coach Cam Cameron, now working in Baltimore as the Offensive Coordinator.
May 28, 2008
Jason Taylor doesn't appear to be in a hurry to join the Dolphins anytime soon. "I'm under contract with the Dolphins. So again, I'm looking forward to playing some golf. Football doesn't start until July and training camp, so I'll be all right," Taylor told the AP Wednesday after playing in a charity golf tournament. "I've been in L.A. and so far removed from it. Like I said, I'll deal with that when I get there." Taylor said his immediate plans are to work out, play golf and relax at home. He avoided questions about whether he plans to meet with Bill Parcells anytime soon.

Our View:Taylor desperately wants out of South Beach, and the Dolphins appear to be willing to move him, but so far they haven't had an offer better than a fourth-round draft pick for the defensive end, which they have deemed unsatisfactory.
May 28, 2008
If you had any questions about the San Diego Chargers' interest in defensive end Jason Taylor, scratch them from your thoughts immediately, according to ESPN. The Chargers aren’t looking for a starting outside linebacker. Plus, they are already down a second-round choice in 2009 from a draft-day trade.

Our View:The Dolphins still haven't had an offer better than a fourth-round draft pick for the former NFL defensive MVP.
May 27, 2008
A local radio station reported that the Baltimore Ravens have had official talks with the Miami Dolphins about acquiring defensive end Jason Taylor. But one team official told the Baltimore Sun that the report was untrue.

Our View:One obstacle in Taylor coming to the Ravens is new offensive coordinator Cam Cameron. When Cameron was the head coach of the Dolphins last season, his relationship with Taylor was described as frosty.
May 26, 2008
Asked about absent defensive end Jason Taylor today, Miami coach Tony Sparano stated he realized Taylor would not be attending OTAs, minicamps, and training camp, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Our View:Sparano noted, when asked about Taylor, he had not anticipated Taylor's arrival until late in the off-season and that he is still under contract with the Miami Dolphins, thus both parties are "fully aware" of the situation. Of course, fans and media have been speculating on the trade of Taylor for some time, and rumors on draft day persisted to come forth that no team was willing to part with the 2nd-round draft pick the Dolphins were asking in return for the Pro Bowl defensive end. It appears both are, at the very least, ready to play it out and see what happens as we roll forward.
May 24, 2008
Apparently you can add the Chargers to the growing list of teams interested in the services of Jason Taylor, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:As is the case with all rumors, there are unofficial, official reports on both sides saying a deal could happen and that it's pure fiction. The truth likely lies somewhere in between. Adding fuel to the rumor is the fact that former Dolphins GM Randy Mueller has now joined the Chargers as an assistant to their GM, A.J. Smith.
May 23, 2008
A Baltimore radio station reported earlier today that the Ravens have had official talks with the Miami Dolphins about acquiring defensive end Jason Taylor. However, a team official told the Baltimore Sun that the report was "untrue."

Our View:Taylor is desperately wanting out of Miami, and it's likely the Fins will eventually accommodate him. The Chargers have also expressed interest.
May 23, 2008
ESPN Radio 1300 AM out of Baltimore is reporting that Jason Taylor wants to become a member of the Ravens and that everything is pointing towards the fact that he'll become one soon. They speculate that the deal would involve Baltimore sending a second- or third-round pick to Miami for the defensive end.

Our View:Taylor is bound to leave Miami eventually. He would obviously make an already-strong Ravens D even stronger.
May 21, 2008
Dolphins' coach Tony Sparano stated that Jason Taylor will not be attending any OTA with the team, nor will he be at training camp, according to the Miami Herald. Sparano said, "I'm going to tell you what I know about Jason Taylor and that's all I'm going to say about this. I know Jason Taylor will not be attending any off-season training activities with the team. I know he will not be at any of our minicamps. And I know he will not be at training camp."

Our View:Gary Wichard (Taylor's agent) told the Dolphins that Taylor will not report for training camp unless he is traded. He wants to play for a winner and he doesn't think the Dolphins are that team. He is 33-years old and wants to win a championship.
May 19, 2008
In an interview for its Sunday Conversation, ESPN asked Jason Taylor if, 10 years from now, he would rather be known for his football exploits or his "Dancing with the Stars" acting career. Taylor suggested he’d rather make it in Hollywood than Canton, Ohio.

Our View:This should sit well with new Director of Operations -- Bill Parcells.
May 5, 2008
Tony Sparano stated that the feud between Jason Taylor and the Dolphins, namely with Bill Parcells, was "overblown", according to the Sun Sentinel. Sparano added that as long as he and Taylor continue to communicate everything is fine.

Our View:Taylor should be done with 'Dancing with the Stars,' in time to show up for the next organized team activity on May 21.
April 29, 2008
Jason Taylor and Bill Parcells are at odds with each other, according to the Miami Herald. Taylor has chosen to compete on Dancing with the Stars, and is missing the Dolphins' off-season conditioning program as a result, which is not sitting well with Parcells. Two weeks ago, Taylor took a break from his dancing stint and visited the Dolphins. He visited with teammates in the locker room and was given a warm reception, but has ignored by Parcells. Taylor also asked to be traded, which is another reason for Parcells to be displeased.

Our View:Taylor isn't going to turn in his cleats for dancing shoes, and this should blow over in time for the new season. Parcells and Taylor don't have to like each other for him to enjoy another strong season.
April 28, 2008
The Dolphins shopped Jason Taylor during the draft, but then took him off the trading table, according to NFL.com. Jaguars' coach Jack Del Rio stated that his team pursued a deal, but the Dolphins removed him from the block, and added, "We talked. They had a certain price in mind, and nobody in the league was interested in that price. They like the player, and they're going to keep him. There's nothing wrong with that." The Buccaneers denied rumors that they were close to a deal. Miami GM Jeff Ireland noted, "We want Taylor back."

Our View:A move for Taylor could still happen. He is a six-time Pro Bowler and will make an impact, regardless of where he plays in 2008.
April 27, 2008
The Miami Dolphins have used this year's NFL Draft to address the long list of needs, adding three players at key positions that failed to produce desired results last season. The Fins added top offensive lineman Jake Long out of Michigan to help get one of the league's most troubling lines back on track. With the top pick in the 2nd round, the Fins addressed defense by taking undervalued Clemson DE Phillip Merling, and then jumped back to offense by selecting Long's college teammate QB Chad Henne with the 26th pick of the 2nd round. They have started the second day of the draft by selecting their second defensive end in the draft, taking Hampton's Kendall Langford.

Our View:The selection of Long makes too much sense and is one sure to assist the team in their efforts to improve. However, the selection of not one but two talented young pass rushers indicates rumors of a pending trade to send veteran Jason Taylor out of Miami are too likely to ignore.
April 25, 2008
Jason Taylor is dancing with the stars, but odds still favor him playing for the Miami Dolphins this season, according to ESPN. Per NFL insider John Clayton, Bill Parcells would be willing to part with Taylor but for a No. 1 pick - something it seems unlikely many teams would give up. A second-round pick is also a long shot.

Our View:This appears to be a situation where Parcells would be willing to move Taylor, 33, if he can find someone willing to overpay for his services. Taylor will be 34 prior to the start of the 2008 season, making a first or second round pick pretty steep for a player of that advanced age.
April 23, 2008
The Miami Dolphins are busy. While they were working to finalize a five-year contract with first-round draft pick Jake Long, they were operating behind the scenes to strike a deal with another undisclosed team for defensive end Jason Taylor, according to CBS Sportsline.

Our View:The Dolphins are reportedly looking for a mid-to-low first round pick for Taylor, 33, but at his advanced age, they will be lucky to receive anything more than a third-rounder for the veteran defensive lineman.
April 19, 2008
Reports indicate Miami Dolphins DE Jason Taylor has asked the team to trade him out of Miami, according to Yahoo Sports.

Our View:Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports reports Taylor has made an official request but has not threatened or demanded to be placated in any way, simply telling the team he does not feel he fits into the current plans of the team. Cole also suggests, while Taylor has not threatened to do so, that the veteran pass rusher might retire if his desires to be traded are not fulfilled.
April 4, 2008
Despite Bill Parcells' history of running a 3-4 defense at his four coaching stops, the Miami Dolphins' vice president of football operations has left that decision in the hands of his coaches, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Head coach Tony Sparano remained non-committal this week on what set the Dolphins would use this season, saying that decision won't be made until the team begins practicing during July's training camp. "We just want to see them play," Sparano said. "We want to see what we have out there." Sparano said it is important that a defense create an identity, and that he will likely stay away from a hybrid scheme that combines the 4-3 and 3-4, such as the one the Dolphins have used the past three years.
April 3, 2008
The Miami Dolphins made it clear to several rookies interviewed at the NFL Scouting Combine that they will be predominately a 3-4 defense, so expect any draft picks to have plenty of experience in that scheme, according to USA Today. That seems to rule out defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, who isn't considered to be strong enough to occupy two bodies at the nose spot and not quite fast enough to come off the edge. Virginia's defensive end Chris Long is believed to be the frontrunner for Miami's top choice, not only because he's used to Bill Parcells' methods via Cavaliers' coach Al Groh - a Parcells' disciple - but he also has the smarts and measurables to play in any system. The Miami coaching staff hasn’t tipped their hand yet, but this report and one we posted yesterday makes it sound like they will implement the 3-4 as their base scheme. Stay tuned.
April 1, 2008
Head coach Tony Sparano said he still isn't certain whether the Miami Dolphins will run a 3-4 or 4-3 defensive scheme, although its obvious they want to run a 3-4, according to the Miami Herald. When asked about his defense, Sparano said his starting front seven includes: defensive end Matt Roth, nose tackle Jason Ferguson, defensive end Vonnie Holiday, outside linebackers Jason Taylor and Joey Porter and inside linebackers Channing Crowder and Reggie Torbor. The head coach might have been tipping his hand, as those starters represent the front seven in a 3-4 alignment.
March 26, 2008
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio is reportedly interested in trading for Miami defensive end Jason Taylor, according to the Miami Herald. The article mentions an unnamed NFL scout and assistant head coach as sources for the information. The Jaguars realize there is a gap between good and great and they need more explosive players to be great. The Jaguars have the No. 26 pick in the draft and they definitely don't want to give that to Miami for an aging Taylor. Their second rounder is No. 58 and while they might think this is still too much to give away, the Dolphins will probably think it too low a pick for Taylor.
March 10, 2008
Jason Taylor would like to jettison Miami, but realizes he has no choice but to play for the Dolphins if the team decides not to hang the exit sign on his locker, according to the Miami Herald. The report cites multiple unnamed sources that stated Taylor wants to play somewhere other than Miami in 2008. Taylor is tied to the Dolphins for two more seasons, as required by his contract. That means no matter how much he would welcome a change, it is up to the Dolphins to let him go, and the team has made no public or private concession that it will unlock the front door and either trade or release him.
March 6, 2008
Contrary to recent reports, Bill Parcells is looking to unload defensive end Jason Taylor, according to Pro Football Weekly. This report cites a team insider, who also stated the feeling is mutual, as Jason Taylor wants out of Miami. Parcells recently stated that Taylor would either play for Miami next season or retire, but according to the inside source he's just trying to avoid the criticism of purging the team of one of its most popular players. It appears possible that the organization could trade Taylor if the price is right. Taylor should have a couple of good seasons left in the tank, and rumors circulating suggest he could be traded for a pair of draft picks, with second- and fourth-round selections appearing to be a plausible exchange.
March 2, 2008
Dolphins head Bill Parcells shot down a report on Yahoo.com that said the Dolphins and Jason Taylor had agreed to part ways before the April draft, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "The latest report is just another example of journalistic irresponsibility," Parcells told ESPN Sunday morning. He added that Taylor will be playing for the Dolphins next season unless the defensive end decides to retire. Certainly, we haven't heard the last of this, so stay tuned.
March 1, 2008
Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports, is reporting that the Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor will move away from South Florida, coming to a decision not to play for the Dolphins under Bill Parcells. What the Phins can get for Taylor is open to discussion. Cole notes that three sources close to the Dolphins organization said this week that Taylor and the team graciously agreed to part ways between now and the NFL draft April 26.
