The Kansas City Chiefs second-round selection, cornerback Brandon Flowers, is in line to be a starter this season, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:That Flowers will start isn't a big surprise, but it would be if two other rookies, corner Brandon Carr and safety DaJuan Morgan also earn starting jobs, as the paper suggests is possible. Usually, starting three rookies in the secondary is a recipe for disaster, but the Chiefs are going to be bad this year, and everybody is aware of that, so maybe it would help speed the growth process of these players.

The Chiefs inked second-round pick Brandon Flowers (Virginia Tech) to a four-year deal, according to the AP. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View:He is a very aggressive and physical cornerback and is projected to start for the Chiefs as a rookie. He should make some big plays this season and rack up a favorable amount of tackles, making him worthy of a late round selection in IDP drafts.

Rookie Brandon Flowers (Virginia Tech) has been working with the first-team at right cornerback, according to the Topeka Capital Journal.

Our View:Cornerback is a glaring need for the Chiefs, and it is not surprising that Flowers is working as a starter. The team needs to replace Ty Law, and Patrick Surtain continued to decline last season. Flowers has fluid hips and changes direction well, and possesses strong instincts in pass/run recognition. He lacks great speed, but does perform faster than his 4.50 40-yard dash time. He also displays favorable ball skills and is a sound tackler, which will help in run support. He should develop into a solid starter for Kansas City, and could prove to be a pleasant surprise as a rookie IDP.

The Kansas City Chiefs used their third pick in the draft, in the second round (35th overall), on Virginia Tech cornerback Brandon Flowers. The cover corner was an Associated Press All-ACC second-teamer in 2007.

Our View:Flowers is on the small side (5-9, 185) and doesn't have catch-up speed, but is known for his superior technique. Flowers fits the current Cover-2 scheme of the Chiefs, but at this point in the draft the organization could have gone several different directions and they didn't need to replace Ty Law this early on day one. He is expected to serve as Patrick Surtain's backup.
