Player Notes

Week 17 inactives: QB Dennis Dixon (3rd), S Ryan Clark, DB Fernando Bryant, LB Bruce Davis, OT Tony Hills, OT Jason Capizzi, DT Scott Paxson, LB James Harrison.

Our View:IDP owners will miss Harrison, but we're not certain that any of the Steelers starters will be in there for the whole contest - or even one half.

Week 15 inactives: QB Dennis Dixon (3rd), DB Fernando Bryant, LB Bruce Davis, OT Tony Hills, DT Scott Paxson, OT Marvel Smith, DE Orpheus Roye, DE Brett Keisel.

Our View:James Harrison and Troy Polamalu are notable actives. The Steelers are in pretty good shape for this AFC North tilt.
November 30, 2008
Week 13 inactives: QB Dennis Dixon 3rd), CB Bryant McFadden, DB Fernando Bryant, RB Najeh Davenport, LB Bruce Davis, OT Tony Hills, OT Marvel Smith, DE Brett Keisel.

Our View:Willie Parker is active and will start despite a bum knee. Mewelde Moore may need to help him out. The defensive backfield continues to be banged up without McFadden and Bryant.

Week 10 inactives: QB Dennis Dixon (3rd), CB Bryant McFadden, RB Willie Parker, LB LaMarr Woodley, T Tony Hills, OT Marvel Smith, TE Heath Miller, DE Orpheus Roye.

Our View:Ben Roethlisberger and Hines Ward are amongst the notable active players, as the Steelers had a long list of injuries this week. Mewelde Moore and Matt Spaeth are set to start, and we are waiting on definitive word at quarterback.

Week 8 inactives: QB Dennis Dixon (3rd), WR Santonio Holmes, CB Bryant McFadden, RB Willie Parker, LB Keyaron Fox, OL Tony Hills, OT Marvel Smith, DE Orpheus Roye.

Our View:Mewelde Moore and Nate Washington will start in place of Parker and Holmes. This list isn't surprising, but it's a good reminder that the Steelers are down three starters on offense.

Week 3 inactives: QB Dennis Dixon (3rd), WR Limas Sweed, CB Deshea Townsend, LB Bruce Davis, OT Tony Hills, OT Trai Essex, DE Brett Keisel, and LB Donovan Woods.

Our View:Ben Roethlisberger, James Farrior, Casey Hampton, and Chris Kemoeatu were all probable this week, and all four are active. In other words, there's nothing surprising on this list.

Dennis Dixon showed off his legs in preseason action against the Bills, as he rushed 47 yards for a touchdown, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The quarterback ran twice for 54 yards and completed 6-of-15 passes for 79 yards, with no touchdowns or interceptions.

Our View:Dixon is competing for the No. 3 role at quarterback, and will not see the field unless injuries plague the team at the position.

The Steelers agreed to a three-year contract with fifth-round pick Dennis Dixon on Monday, this according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The deal included a $130,000 signing bonus.

Our View:Dixon, the Pac-10 Conference's offensive player of the year, missed his final three college games with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, but he's expected to be ready for training camp.

Quarterback Dennis Dixon worked out for NFL scouts at Oregon’s pro day, according to the Salem Statesman Journal. Dixon displayed little rust in the 45-minute workout, despite being three months removed from knee surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament. "I'm not 100 percent on the knee yet," Dixon said. "Once it comes, watch out." Dixon, who expects to be at full strength when rookies report to NFL camps in July, is totally committed to football despite the fact that he was selected in the fifth round of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft by the Atlanta Braves. Dixon is projected as a late-round pick.
