Sedrick Ellis missed Wednesday's practice while nursing a knee injury, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View:He appears unlikely to return this weekend against the Panthers, which will benefit their ground attack led by Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams.

Saints rookie defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis, the seventh overall pick in the draft, will be out 2-4 weeks after having surgery on his right knee to repair a medial meniscus tear, according to the AP.

Our View:Ellis tore cartilage in the same knee in 2006 while he was with USC and also had fluid drained from the knee in 2007. Having problems with the knee three years in a row is a bit unsettling.

Saints first-round pick, defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis, had to leave the team's practice because of "clicking" in his right knee, according to the AP.

Our View:Ellis is going to have the knee examined to determine what the problem is. We will keep you updated when more information is known.
August 15, 2008
Sedrick Ellis is expected to be a space-filler and occupy blockers following the loss of Hollis Thomas, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Scott Fujita said, "he has a non-stop motor, looks like the kind of guy who'll be a good friend of the linebackers, just by making their job easier by keeping the offensive linemen occupied."

Our View:Ellis excels against the run, but is also explosive enough to disrupt plays in the backfield. As is the case with most defensive tackles, his fantasy value as an IDP prospect will likely be low.
July 30, 2008
The contract of Saints first-round selection Sedrick Ellis is a five-year deal worth a maximum of $49 million, with $19.5 million guaranteed, according to ESPN.com.

Our View:Ellis had missed 12 practices in his holdout, but he is still expected to anchor the middle of the Saints defensive line at some point.
