Zach Thomas' streak of 178 straight NFL starts was ended on Sunday due to the 49ers game-opening formation. Thomas had four tackles against the Niners, two of which were solo tackles.

Our View:Thomas doesn't have a ton of fantasy value this year in IDP leagues as he's had just one sack and no forced turnovers. He has 70 total tackles on the year though and is owned in about a third of leagues.

Reports from Dallas have both free-agent additions on defense, namely linebacker Zach Thomas and cornerback Adam Jones (a.k.a. Pacman), working like monsters to lead the way at training camp, according to the Star Telegram.

Our View:In the middle of the defense, Thomas was already making No. 55 very visible. The highlight for the seven-time Pro Bowler was reading and reacting on a running play by Tashard Choice when he meet him at the line of scrimmage. Thomas is also a player coming off a year which he missed 11 games because of a concussion and migraines after a car wreck. The 13-year veteran and Texas native has said he is fully recovered and 100% healthy. Jones, who expects to be the primary punt returner, is getting acclimated quickly despite the amount of practice time he has missed. His conditioning is apparent and his play-making shined. The Cowboys now just have to hope he will be fully reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for the regular season. A decision will be made September 1st.

Zach Thomas is having an impact on the Cowboys defense because of his professionalism, and he is setting an example that the younger players are looking up to, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:Thomas won't be in Dallas what he was with Miami, but if he can help to improve this Cowboys defensive unit, they will be one to grab in later rounds of fantasy drafts.

In his 12 seasons in Miami, linebacker Zach Thomas made a reputation as a "team leader" that was at the forefront of anything major that was player related. But since signing as a free agent with Dallas this off-season, he has taken a low-key approach, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I’m not the voice of this team," Thomas said. "I was in Miami. I’m trying to fit in. There are plenty of guys on this team that are leaders."

Our View:Thomas is not rejecting leadership responsibilities, but he is still in a feeling-out process while finding where he fits with the team.

Zach Thomas has been working with strength coach Joe Jurazsek, who was at Texas Tech when Thomas was in college, and has muscled up to 240 pounds for the first time in his career, according to the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram.

Our View:Thomas, who normally plays at 225 pounds, is expected to provide a major upgrade for Dallas at the inside linebacker slot manned by Akin Ayodele last year.

Zach Thomas doesn't believe that last year's concussion issues will hamper him moving forward, according to the Dallas Morning News. "I don't see that as a concern. I wouldn't put myself in that position. I wouldn't put my family in that position. There's way more important things when it comes to health."

Our View:Thomas, if healthy, would appear to be a nice bounce back candidate this year, though with the struggles he faced last season there is always a chance that one hit could end his career, though you could say that about any player.

Zach Thomas says he has not been promised anything by the Dallas Cowboys, except an opportunity to compete with Akin Ayodele and Kevin Burnett for the starting inside linebacker job on the weak side, according to the Sporting News. Since 2003, Thomas has missed 17 games due to various injuries, including 11 last year due to a concussion.

Our View:The Cowboys feel Thomas is an upgrade over Ayodele from a leadership and big play standpoint. However, Thomas, who will be a high risk, medium reward type IDP prospect, will have to prove he can stay healthy throughout training camp to secure the starting job.

Zach Thomas recently had surgery to repair a deviated septum, according to the Dallas Morning News. Nothing to see here, as this surgical procedure isn’t expected to impact Thomas’ offseason training regimen.

Zach Thomas, who feels like he still has a lot of gas in the tank, wouldn’t have returned if he couldn’t play at a high level, according to a report in the Dallas Morning News. On signing with Dallas, Thomas said after conversations with owner Jerry Jones he knew the organization was the right fit. "Coach [Wade] Phillips and Jerry Jones were explaining to me they were trying to get as many good players as they can get, and it just hit me that this is the spot for me," Thomas said Monday from his South Florida home. "There was no weighing my options. I knew in my gut." Thomas, who is expected to compete for a starting role, could be a monster in Phillips' aggressive 3-4 scheme, if his health holds up.

The Cowboys have stepped in and landed Zach Thomas by signing the free agent to a one-year, $3 million contract, according to the Dallas Morning News. The contract includes a $1 million signing bonus. Thomas had received offers from the Pats and Saints, but the Texas native liked the idea of playing in his home state.

Zach Thomas will not become a member of the Broncos after it was revealed that contract negotiations with the team have broken off according to the Denver Post. "It's not going to happen in Denver," agent Drew Rosenhaus said. The Broncos did inquire about Dan Morgan, another Rosenhaus client, but no substantial talk has occurred in that area.

Zach Thomas, who recently received an undisclosed contract offer from New England, is seeking a multi-year contract including guaranteed money, according to the Miami Herald. “We had a great visit in New England,” agent Drew Rosenhaus wrote in a text message last night. “They offered him a contract and we will continue negotiations.” There is speculation the Patriots offered an incentive laden deal paying the veteran minimum of $830,000. Thomas left New England without signing the contract – and his free-agency tour is expected to include New Orleans and Dallas with Buffalo and the New York Jets also having interest in his services.

Zach Thomas paid a visit to the Patriots' facilities Monday and left with a contract offer from the AFC champs, according to ESPN.com. Thomas was released by the Dolphins last week after playing in only five games in 2007 because of concussions and migraines. He's expected to visit the Saints and Cowboys next.
February 18, 2008
Zach Thomas is expected to make a visit to Foxboro and the New England Patriots today, notes the Dallas News. It is the first in-house visit for the veteran linebacker since being cut by the Miami Dolphins last week. Thomas is reportedly scheduled to make visits to New Orleans and Dallas in the near future.
February 17, 2008
Zach Thomas is drawing interest from a plethora of teams after being released by the Dolphins, and he will visit the Saints on Tuesday according to NFL.com. Thomas missed a ton of action in '07 due to concussion/headaches, and though he is 34-years-old, he still has totaled at least 140 tackles in each of his last six healthy seasons.
February 15, 2008
According to the Dallas News, the Cowboys have had discussions with Zach Thomas' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and plan to bring the 35-year old ex-Dolphin in for a visit. Thomas, who was released on Thursday in a salary-cap move, isn't a prototypical fit in a 3-4 defense, but he has experience in the scheme under former Miami coach Nick Saban.
February 15, 2008
Zach Thomas is healthy and has been cleared to play football per his agent Drew Rosenhaus, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Thomas, who was recently released by Miami, has already drawn interest from a handful of teams now that he’s on the open market. "Zach will most likely be playing for a team that was in the playoffs," Rosenhaus said. "I have been very pleased by the interest so far." Thomas, 34, has missed 22 starts during his 12-year NFL career due to various injuries, but he has posted 150+ tackles in every season from 2001-06. We wouldn’t be surprised to see the seven-time Pro Bowler latch on to a team in need of a veteran presence in their linebacking corps. As for his IDP prospects, Thomas is long in the tooth, and will likely be a role player wherever he lands.
February 14, 2008
FOXSports.com reports that the Miami front office has informed Pro Bowl linebacker Zach Thomas he will be released. Thomas, who suffered through and injury filled season that included a car accident and concussion, will likely consider retiring.
