November 27, 2008
Chris Johnson had a huge game for the Titans on Thursday. He racked up 125 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. He also had two receptions for nine yards.

Our View:Johnson went over 100 yards for the third time this season and add a couple more before the season is over with the Browns and the Texans as Tennessee's next two opponents.
November 16, 2008
Chris Johnson was held in check for the second straight week, as he managed just 64 yards on 17 carries (3.8 YPC) in the win over Jacksonville Sunday. He added four catches for 24 yards.

Our View:Opposing teams are beginning to stack the box in an effort to stop the Titans' running game. It has worked, but Kerry Collins is proving to be a capable passer. Even with Collins playing well, we wouldn't be surprised if Tennessee's opponents continue to make him beat them, meaning Johnson and LenDale White could have trouble producing for fantasy owners like they have been.
November 7, 2008
Chris Johnson could get more touches with the Titans, according to the Nashville City Paper. Coach Jeff Fisher said, "We’re trying to do a little bit more with him each week, and keep in mind, he gets a lot of practice reps and experience on the practice field, and it’s carried over into games. He’s making the different catches, the different runs and different cuts. He’s a complete back. He can catch it, accelerate and go."

Our View:The rookie has exceeded expectations so far, but offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger does not want to overwork him, potentially tiring him out when they need him the most for their playoff run. He should remain active in fantasy lineups, even with a tough match-up against Chicago.
November 2, 2008
Running back Chris Johnson lugged the rock 24 times for 89 yards and one touchdown in the Week 9 victory over Green Bay.

Our View:Johnson, who also chipped in six receptions for 72 yards, has scored a touchdown in three straight weeks.
October 27, 2008
Chris Johnson led the Titans with 19 carries for 77 yards on Monday night as he also found his way into the end zone on a late 16-yard score.

Our View:Until that run with under four minutes left this was shaping up to be a poor night for Johnson. Still, the kid ended up producing another solid effort as he seemingly always finds a way to get it done.
October 25, 2008
Colts' coach Tony Dungy praised Titans' rookie running back Chris Johnson, according to the Tennessean. Dungy said, "He's been exceptional. In Mike Heimerdinger's offense, I think he has a chance to be like Terrell Davis and have that super year and really catapult them into the upper echelon."

Our View:Dungy and the Colts will attempt to slow down Johnson in Monday's AFC South showdown with the Titans. Johnson currently leads the AFC with 549 rushing yards, and the Colts field the 28th ranked run defense, making him a solid start in fantasy leagues.
October 23, 2008
The AP reports that Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson has been fined $10,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct after banging on some drums in the Chiefs’ pep band following a 66-yard touchdown run. “I am not happy about it,” Johnson told The Tennessean newspaper. “I knew I was going to get a fine, but I am totally upset about how much. I am going to appeal. There’s no fun in this league. I was trying to have fun and they want to penalize us for having fun.”

Our View:He was penalized 15 yards at the time. He has four touchdowns this season and is averaging 5.3 yards on 103 carries through six games.
October 19, 2008
Running back Chris Johnson posted 18 carries for 168 yards a 66-yard touchdown in the Week 7 victory over Kansas City.

Our View:It was the second 100-yard effort for Johnson, who has scored four touchdowns this season.
October 2, 2008
Titans running back Chris Johnson was named the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Month for September, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:Johnson has averaged 5.0 yards per carry while running for 337 yards and catching 10 passes for 65 yards. He has scored three touchdowns - two on the ground and one through the air.
September 28, 2008
Running back Chris Johnson posted 17 carries for 61 yards and two scores in the Week 4 victory over Minnesota.

Our View:The talented rookie also chipped in three receptions for 14 yards, and after four weeks he has compiled 337 rushing yards.
September 17, 2008
Chris Johnson has rushed 34 times for 202 yards and hauled in five receptions for 46 yards over the first two games of the season, and his workload is expected to gradually increase as he becomes more familiar with the Titans' offense, according to the Tennessean.

Our View:Johnson is already worth considering as a No. 2 fantasy back while averaging 19.5 touches per contest. He should be scooped up if still dangling on the waiver wire.
September 14, 2008
Rookie Chris Johnson carried the ball 19 times for 109 yards in the Titans victory over Cincinnati.

Our View:Johnson also chipped in 2 receptions for 12 yards and has compiled 193 rushing yards in his first two games as a professional.
September 7, 2008
Running back Chris Johnson suffered a leg injury during the fourth quarter of the season opener against the Jaguars. He headed to the locker room. LenDale White entered the game in his place.

Our View:The rookie suffered the injury after a one-yard run. We're not sure what the exact ailment is at this point, and we'll update his status when more is known.
September 7, 2008
Chris Johnson got the start at running back over LenDale White in Week 1.

Our View:Johnson and White are still expected to split carries, but it is a good sign for Johnson owners that he was on the field for the first offensive series.
September 7, 2008
Running back Chris Johnson carried the ball three times for 31 yards on the Titans first drive of the season. On the team's first play, the rookie ran for 18 yards.

Our View:Jeff Fisher loves to throw wrinkles at his opponents, especially if it's a divisional game. It's possible he featured Johnson early just to shock a defense that was expecting LenDale White. We'll obviously be keeping an eye on this committee situation.
August 26, 2008
As fantasy owners continue to ponder how the rushing workload in Tennessee will be filled, and more to the point, the role breakout rookie Chris Johnson will play in that effort, coach Jeff Fisher has offered some insight following today's practices, according to SBNation.com. In his interview with the press, Fisher was asked how the tandem of Johnson and LenDale White will work, to which he responded, "We're going to use them both depending on the game plans and it makes sense to take advantage of both of their abilities. I think we'll have a better gauge once we get to the middle part of the season how the carries and the touches are going to work. Provided they're healthy week in and week out I would assume it would be close to 50-50, maybe 60-40."

Our View:That sounds about right based on reports we've read over recent weeks and the production these two could produce. At first glance, it may seem like a detrimental fantasy situation, but with quarterback Vince Young struggling to find comfort in the pocket and a group of receivers failing to instill confidence in the passing game, it is fair to suggest both Johnson and White could be 15 carries per game, and both can do work in that number of carries. It will be an intriguing situation to watch, and we'll keep you posted on the news along the way.
August 22, 2008
Chris Johnson had been tearing up sod with all the running he had done in preseason contests, but he came down to earth the Titan's 17-3 loss to Atlanta. Johnson ran 11 times for just 35 yards.

Our View:Johnson will have performances like this in the regular season too, but he has too much explosiveness for the Titans or fantasy owners to ignore.
August 21, 2008
The Tennessean believes rookie Chris Johnson is going to play a significant role with the Titans this season, both running the ball as well as catching it. He is averaging 8.8 yards per carry in the preseason, and has displayed a quick burst through the line, as well as toughness to bring down in the open field.

Our View:Johnson should provide a spark to the Titans' offense as a complement to the bruising LenDale White. Johnson should hold solid value this season, namely in PPR leagues.
August 16, 2008
Chris Johnson, the Titans first-round pick in the NFL draft, will be featured prominently in the team's offense because his speed creates mismatches, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:There is even some speculation that Johnson will eventually become the starter sometime later on this season. He certainly has fantasy value, but LenDale White will still probably see more carries than Johnson, and Johnson's performances are likely going to be inconsistent because he may hit for a big play one week then go two or three more before doing it again.
August 15, 2008
Chris Johnson led the Titans with 46 yards on eight carries Friday.

Our View:Johnson now has 123 yards on 14 carries in two preseason games. He could split the carries pretty evenly with LenDale White, though White should get the ball at the stripe.
August 14, 2008
Chris Johnson commented that his primary goal is to be named Offensive Rookie of the Year, according to the Tennessean. He said, "My main goal is to win rookie of the year. I want to come in and do the same thing Adrian Peterson came in and did last year. I think that is possible."

Our View:He is expected to split carries with LenDale White and could finish the season ranked near the top on the team in receptions, as the Titans loves his potential as a pass-catcher. The source even suggests that he may unseat White as the starter at some point this season.
August 9, 2008
Rookie tailback Chris Johnson wasted little time introducing himself to the NFL, taking an early handoff 66 yards right up the gut for a highlight-reel touchdown in the Titans' preseason opener against St. Louis, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View:Johnson has been one of the hot fantasy gambles of the early draft season and now fans are going to be giving him that much more attention. If he keeps it up, he'll be working as the primary back and LenDale White could become the change-of-pace option. Stay tuned.
August 8, 2008
Coach Jeff Fisher indicated that the first-team offense will play into the second quarter in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams, and Chris Johnson is expected to gets reps with the starters, according to the Nashville City Paper.

Our View:LenDale White will start the game, but Johnson is going to push him for the starting gig at running back. O.C. Mike Heimerdinger likes to throw the ball, and loves Johnson's potential and ability as a pass-catcher.
July 30, 2008
The more reports eminate from the Titans' training camp, the more we believe rookie rusher Chris Johnson is likely to carry the bulk of the load at running back. The most recent report indicates offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger is approaching Johnson as the team's primary rusher and envisions him working on 1st and 2nd down this season, according to the Tennessean.

Our View:Could we be seeing the end of LenDale White's opportunity in Tennessee? White came on last season but the new OC appears enamored with the rookie. If Johnson earns that role, you will see White in limited action, and as we've seen in the past, that is likely to be a problem. We'll keep you posted as this group takes form through training camp.
July 29, 2008
Coach Jeff Fisher had a number of good things to say regarding first-round selection Chris Johnson, according to Music City Miracles. "Each day we'll put a new concept in, he grasps it immediately, and shows it on the field. He had some big plays today. It would appear the defense, in their own subtle ways, are trying to get a shot and they haven't got it yet. And that's a good thing. I've seen some noticeable changes in Keith Bulluck's angles downfield, so, (Johnson) can really run and he's making some plays...(I've never coached a player) with his speed. Not in the backfield. That's why we drafted him, it's rare and its unique. We've said he's a football player with track speed and its showing thus far...He's got good hands, he can catch out of frame and make the tough catch. That allows you to do things down the field and expand the pass package beyond just what you ordinarily do with a running back."

Our View:Johnson offers a lot of things that LenDale White does not which may make him a contender to split carries with the big man just as Reggie Bush did in White's USC days. Johnson was incredible at East Carolina, but it remains to be seen how durable he will be against NFL defenses.
July 26, 2008
The Titans have reached contractual terms with top rookie running back Chris Johnson , according to the Tennessean.

Our View:Johnson, the team’s first-round pick (24th overall), reached a 5-year, $12 million deal with the team that includes roughly $7 million in guaranteed money. He is in Nashville, is expected to undergo a physical today, and the Titans expect him to be able to practice at 3:30 p.m today. Rejoice fantasy owners, for your prized rookie phenom will report to camp early and receive all of the benefits that come with it. If you have targeted Johnson in your league and feel he is capable of producing at the NFL level, this comes as great news.
July 9, 2008
The Titans have been very pleased with rookie rusher Chris Johnson through the off-season, according to the Tennessean. He is displaying a burst through traffic, making sharp cuts, and consistently catching the ball. He has also picked up OC Mike Heimerdinger's playbook rather quickly, and has already added some formations that will feature Johnson in the slot and flanked out wide. Heimerdinger said, "I haven't had a back quite like him to work with. He can do a lot of things from a lot of spots. It gives you some options, some matchups."

Our View:Johnson has played some wide receiver at East Carolina, and runs solid routes as well as having good hands. He has been called a faster version of Brian Westbrook, and he clocked in at 4.24 in the 40-yard dash at the combine. He will add an explosive element to the Titans' offense this season, and should prove to be a strong complement to starter LenDale White. Johnson is worth a look in the later rounds of fantasy drafts, namely in PPR leagues.
May 6, 2008
Running back Chris Johnson, the Tennessee Titans’ first-round pick, showed off his speed during the team's rookie orientation, while the coaching staff began experimenting on different ways they can use him, according to the Sporting News. The Titans envision Johnson lining up in the slot and catching plenty of balls, but he also will line up wide and in the backfield. Johnson has blazing speed -- he clocked at 4.24 in the 40-yard dash -- and the team will look to get him involved in the running game, but think he will be especially dangerous catching the ball on screens or in the flat on short passes. Johnson is not only fast, but he also is quick and very elusive in avoiding would-be tacklers. The fact that Tennessee selected Johnson in the first round indicates they are not happy with Chris Henry as the primary backup to LenDale White.

Our View:We expect White to continue to be the plodder between the tackles, and look for Johnson to receive his fair share of the work, especially in the passing game.
April 26, 2008
The Titans used their first round selection on running back Chris Johnson, the 24th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Tennessee loves their first round tailbacks. The Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Year, Johnson is reportedly the fastest player in the draft.

Our View:His 4.24 time in the 40-yard dash is the fastest NFL combine time ever. While at East Carolina he was an all-purpose player and valued teammate. He joins a talented backfield in Tennessee that includes starter LenDale White.
March 18, 2008
The Carolina Panthers, Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos are interested in running back Chris Johnson, according to ESPN. Johnson, who is 5-11 and 199 pounds, ran a blistering 4.24 during his combine workout – turning a lot of heads in the process. Johnson’s elite speed could earn him a spot in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft.
