Brett Ratliff was solid again in the Jets second preseason game. He completed 13-of-19 passes for 148 yards, no scores, and no interceptions. Ratliff led the Jets to one field goal make, and Mike Nugent shanked a 23-yard attempt on another drive.

Our View:Brett Favre is obviously the starter for the Jets, but Ratliff is making a case to surpass Kellen Clemens for the No. 2 job.

Brett Ratliff has been more impressive than either Chad Pennington or Kellen Clemens to this point in camp, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. He has played so well at times that he has received reps with the first team. It'll be interesting to see if the Jets cut Erik Ainge, a fifth-round pick who has been pedestrian so far, and keep Ratliff, a free agent.

Our View:Ratliff has a big arm and is poised. Said Ratliff, "I tried to spend as much time in the offseason with the coaches, with Chad (Pennington) or Kellen (Clemens), whoever would spend time with me, trying to get better, so when I came in here now, I wasn't swimming like I was last year. I'm still learning, still progressing and I still have a long ways to go." That he does. There's probably not a snowball's chance in hell he winds up the starter. If anything, this should simply lower your expectations for Pennington and Clemens.
