Rookie cornerback Leodis McKelvin will start on Sunday in place of the injured Terrence McGee, according to NFL.com.

Our View:McKelvin had five tackles in Week 5 and a fumble recovery the week before that. The rookie will be tested this week at home against the Chargers.
October 5, 2008
According to Pro Football Weekly, the Bills will likely employ more deep zone coverages with rookie corner Leodis McKelvin starting in place of Terrence McGee on Sunday.

Our View:This is certainly good news for Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald and company.
October 2, 2008
Buffalo first-round pick, cornerback Leodis McKelvin, will split time at the position with Ashton Youboty during the team's upcoming contest against the Cardinals, according to the Buffalo Democrat and Chronicle.

Our View:McKelvin has not seen much of the field this season, but the Bills are likely to use him against the Cards' passing attack because starting corner Terrence McGee probably will not be able to play due to injury.
September 21, 2008
It is possible that Bills rookie corner Leodis McKelvin will take over the kick return duties on a full-time basis, supplanting Roscoe Parrish, according to Sporting News Today.

Our View:McKelvin was one of the best returners in college football in recent memory coming out of Troy, and because he is not getting on the field much on defense, the team wants to utilize his skills in other ways.
August 21, 2008
Leodis McKelvin has been unable to pass Jabari Greer on the Bills' depth chart at cornerback, and remains relegated to the nickelback spot, according to the Buffalo News. Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell said, "If you look at Leodis’ two games, he’s had two mistakes in two games. He did not contain the screen against Washington and let in a touchdown. In the Pittsburgh game, Hines Ward ran what we call a ‘Bang Eight,’ or a skinny post on him, and he turned the wrong way."

Our View:He has a shot to emerge as a starter at some point this season, but will be brought along slowly heading into Week 1. He could hold more fantasy value as a return man, as he already returned a kick for a touchdown in the preseason.
August 14, 2008
A prolific return man in college, Bills first-round selection Leodis McKelvin showed that skill in tonight's preseason game against the Steelers, returning a kick 95 yards for a touchdown.

Our View:McKelvin can be a boon for fantasy owners interested in drafting the Bills D/ST unit for their squad. It is not yet known if McKelvin will return kicks during the regular season, but it will be difficult for the Bills to ignore his talents.
August 9, 2008
Bills first-round selection Leodis McKelvin will get an opportunity to return both punts and kicks in tonight's preseason contest, according to BuffaloBills.com.

Our View:McKelvin was a dynamite returner in college, and though Buffalo has Roscoe Parrish, they need to see what McKelvin can give them.
July 26, 2008
Buffalo Bills first-round draft pick Leodis McKelvin has signed a contract with the team, according to BuffaloBills.com.

Our View:McKelvin is expected to compete for a starting job at corner and as a return man. He had eight returns for a touchdown in college, including seven on punts.
July 7, 2008
Leodis McKelvin, who had an NCAA record eight returns for touchdowns in his college career (7 punts, 1 kickoff), will be used as a return man from time to time, this according to the Bills team website.

Our View:The report notes that Roscoe Parrish, Terrence McGee and Jonathan "Freddie" Smith will also be utilized in a double return look and that McKelvin adds yet another weapon to arguably the most talented special team units in the league.
May 27, 2008
Despite his stellar return abilities, Buffalo rookie cornerback Leodis McKelvin will learn the ropes of the defense first and foremost, according to Pro Football Weekly. McKelvin isn’t a particularly astute student of the game, and the feeling among the coaches is that throwing both the defensive and special-teams playbooks at him at once will stunt his development.

Our View:Even if the team felt McKelvin could handle dual responsibilities, there’s no guarantee he’d improve the special-teams play, considering KR Terrence McGee and PR Roscoe Parrish are two of the best in the business.

Leodis McKelvin's first weekend as a NFL player went as smooth as he expected. There was a lot to learn, but he is confident in his ability to handle the transition, according to the Buffalo News. "I feel like I can compete against anybody," McKelvin said. "I feel like I'm getting better every practice and every day. It's been real good." McKelvin reiterated that he's aware of the high expectations of being the 11th overall pick, but he also expects to live up to them. "That's the goal I set for myself coming in, especially being drafted No. 11," he said. "If you're going to draft somebody at No. 11 you don't want him sitting on the bench or waiting for somebody. You want him to come in and play early. I'm going to come in and learn the defense and get better and better."

Our View:McKelvin is expected to start on day one opposite Terrence McGee. In the IDP world there is the rookie cornerback rule, which states the youngsters get picked on until they prove they belong in the league. In the Bills cover 2 scheme, McKelvin could make for a solid selection in leagues required to start cornerbacks.

Leodis McKelvin will play immediately at cornerback, but will see action on special teams as well, according to Buffalo News. McKelvin was considered to be the best return specialist in the draft, and had eight return touchdowns (seven on punts) over his career at Troy. Special teams coach Bobby April said, "He’s a hungry guy in terms of wanting to return the ball, and that’s a huge plus. And he’s good. We have two very good guys, but he’s not taking a back seat to anybody. Leodis will have his work cut out for him, but so will Terrence and Roscoe."

Our View:The Bills already have a great return game with Terrence McGee on kickoffs and Roscoe Parrish on punts, but McKelvin should make their special teams even better. So McKelvin should make an impact as a playmaker on defense, as well as special teams this season.

In what may be one of the most intriguing stories to watch this off-season, the Buffalo Bills have continued to focus their efforts on formulating the best young defensive backfield in the NFL. The Bills have SS Donte Whitner, coming off an outstanding campaign of 89 total tackles in just his second year in the NFL, and FS Ko Simpson, hoping to come back into form after missing the entire '07 campaign to injury, listed as starters on the current depth chart. This season, the Bills have once again used the NFL Draft to enhance those efforts, adding Troy University CB Leodis McKelvin with the 11th-overall pick

Our View:McKelvin isn't too strong against the run, but he is as speedy as any player in the draft (4.38" 40-yard dash as this year's Scouting Combine), he changes directions and adjusts on the fly with ease, and he has showcased outstanding instincts for the ball during his time in the college game. With veteran Terrence McGee providing coverage on the opposite side of the field, the Bills will let McKelvin battle for a starting job against Jabari Green and Ashton Youboty. Much remains to be seen, but McKelvin, on paper, may offer the best man-to-man coverage abilities of the group and could give the Bills one of the most formidable cover corners in the NFL.
April 26, 2008
The Buffalo Bills selected Troy cornerback Leodis McKelvin with the 11th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.

Our View:Many thought Buffalo would go wide receiver with this pick, but instead chose McKelvin, who can help out at corner and in the return game. He has blazing speed, but there are some questions about his ball skills.
April 26, 2008
Newsday suggests that the Jets may select Troy cornerback Leodis McKelvin with the sixth pick in the draft. Ohio State defensive end Vernon Gholston would be hard to pass up if available, but the Jets reportedly have McKelvin rated higher on their board.

Our View:The Jets have a greater need at right cornerback, than they do at defensive end.

Troy cornerback Leodis McKelvin visited the Ravens on Monday, according to the Carroll County Times. He is considered to be the second best cornerback prospect behind Mike Jenkins (South Florida), and would fill a need for the Ravens defensively if they ultimately call his name on draft day.

Our View:He was previously linked as a target for Baltimore as well, and it would be a great destination for him, in one of the league's best playmaking defenses.
March 11, 2008
Head coach John Harbaugh and other team officials are scheduled to attend Troy State cornerback Leodis McKelvin’s private workout session today, according to the Carroll County Times. “I’ve gotten a lot of phone calls from Baltimore,” Troy strength and conditioning coach Richard Shaughnessy said. “Baltimore asked him a lot of questions at the combine and showed him some film, and Leodis thinks they’ve shown a lot of interest in him. He’s a quality kid and he’s very talented.” McKelvin, who met with the Ravens at the NFL scouting combine, has been linked to Baltimore in several mock drafts. He is arguably considered the second best cornerback prospect in the 2008 draft, after South Florida’s Mike Jenkins.
