July 30, 2008 Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez said he is 95% sure he will be back next season, but it's entirely possible he could stick around much longer, according to Pro Football Weekly. Gonzalez is 32 years old and stands to make a lot of money in the next few years, and he has never won a playoff game in his career, which he obviously would like to do. Our View:It seems like Gonzalez is older than 32 because he has been a premier tight end for so long. He remains a fantasy stalwart at his position, and is coming off a 99-catch season. |

July 7, 2008 The Sporting News reports that Tony Gonzalez helped a choking man on Thursday, possibly saving his life. Gonzalez was dining in Huntington Beach, Calif., when across the room a fellow diner, Ken Hunter, began to choke on a bite of steak. Gonzalez performed the Heimlich maneuver and cleared the passage way for the man to breath. "I just did what my natural instincts told me to do, help someone in need. I couldn't just sit there and do nothing. The man was in distress and he needed help quickly." Our View:The report noted that Hunter will be "forever grateful" and will now be rooting for Gonzalez and his team in the upcoming season. Hunter is a Chargers fan. Mr. Hunter won't have much to cheer about as a Tony Gonzo and Kansas City Chiefs fan... on the other hand the Chargers are Super Bowl contenders. |

June 22, 2008 Reports out of Kansas City indicate the Chiefs are giving a noteworthy focus to two-tight end sets in offensive workouts, according to Pro Football Weekly. PFW reports both Tony Gonzalez and rookie Brad Cottam are spending time in snaps with the team's starting unit, and both are getting plenty of targets. Our View:This is of interest on two fronts for fantasy owners. First, one has to wonder just how many looks Cottam will get and how that will affect the value of Gonzalez, the long-standing target of choice in this offense. However, more importantly may be the team's need to provide better support for the run. Getting two blocking tight ends on the field could help the team mask their shortcomings at fullback, and with Larry Johnson struggling through abuse and durability concerns, the Chiefs need to do what they can to support his cause in staying on the field. Putting two tight ends on the field can't hurt. |

May 28, 2008 Tony Gonzalez left for California on Tuesday and will remain away from the team through the weekend. He has a good reason. Gonzalez and his wife are expecting the birth of their second child, a daughter, the Kansas City Star reports. Our View:We suppose Gonzo has proven himself enough to take a little time off in May. This move seems a little selfish, though. (Yes, we're being sarcastic.) |

February 10, 2008 Future Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez led all AFC receivers in Sunday's 42-30 Pro Bowl loss to the NFC. Gonzalez recorded four receptions for 79 yards. The all time tight end leader in receptions will be 32 next year, well past the point when most tight ends start showing a serious statistical decline. |
