Kolby Smith exited Sunday's game in the first quarter with an ankle injury and didn't return. Undrafted rookie Jackie Battle took over in the backfield and gained 44 yards on 13 carries. Smith put out a nice effort in Week 12 against a horrid Raiders run D but otherwise had a pretty ho-hum rookie campaign. He could find himself in a starting role next year if the Chiefs attempt to trade Larry Johnson over the offseason.

Kolby Smith will pick up another start in Week 16 at Detroit, as the Chiefs have ruled out Larry Johnson (foot) once again. Smith takes aim at a Detroit front seven that's allowed 4.2 yards a carry and 17 touchdowns this year.

Kolby Smith (knee) was limited in practice on Wednesday, but he is not worried about his status for the weekend. “I’ll be ready to go on Sunday,” he tells the Kansas City Star. “However many times they want to give it to me, I’ll take it." Gilbert Harris and Jackie Battle are his backups.

Kolby Smith is dealing with a sore knee, but head coach Herm Edwards thinks the rookie will play this week. "[Smith’s] questionable. We’ll see how he feels tomorrow but he should be good to go. We’ll just bring him along slow," Edwards tells the team's official web site. The Chiefs would need to turn to either Gilbert Harris or Jackie Battle if Smith were out this Sunday.

Kolby Smith picked up the slack Sunday for the Larry Johnson and Priest Holmes-less Chiefs, as the rookie ran for 150 yards and two TDs on 31 carries in his first career start. Johnson could be back next week, but Smith is definitely worth owning now regardless. This performance was against the Raiders, but Smith's showing is impressive nonetheless.
