Player Notes

David Clowney has sustained a shoulder injury and not a broken collarbone as was previously reported, according to the NY Post. Either way, coach Eric Mangini said the young receiver "will be out for a while."

Our View:Clowney was enjoying a strong preseason, and looked as if he could serve as a solid weapon alongside Jerricho Cotchery and Laveranues Coles. Clowney is not worth drafting, but could emerge as a favorable waiver wire target during the season.

The Jets confirmed on Tuesday that David Clowney will miss "some significant time" due to his collarbone injury, the New York Daily News reports.

Our View:The Jets needed someone to step up alongside Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery, and Clowney was turning into that guy. It's bad timing for the young wideout.

David Clowney has sustained a collarbone injury during preseason action against Washington Saturday, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View:He could be out several weeks, if not longer, due to the injury. He was having a strong training camp and was the Jets' leading receiver in the preseason with eight catches for 222 yards and two scores. The injury could open up a roster spot for rookie receiver Marcus Henry.

David Clowney had to make an impression on the Jets, as he caught four passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns.

Our View:Great performance by Clowney, and though he probably won't be much more than a depth player this season, maybe Brett Favre saw something he liked while watching from the sideline.

David Clowney has made quite an impression in OTAs, according to Newsday. “I think he’s a guy that has excellent deep speed, he’s got a history of special teams production in college (Virginia Tech)," HC Eric Mangini said. "He got into our system last year when we picked him up from Green Bay and he made some strides (last year). And I like the strides he’s made to this point."

Our View:Clowney didn't pull down a pass last season, and he figures to be a long shot to be anything more than a depth WR, though there is a chance he could end up seeing some work in the return game if he keeps flashing solid work with his hands and his effort.
