Justin Medlock has been released by the Rams, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:Josh Brown was not going to be challenged for the placekicking job, and Medlock had no shot to make the team barring an injury.

Justin Medlock has received permission from the St. Louis Rams to seek a trade, according to the Denver Post. Medlock, the first kicker selected in the 2007 NFL draft, was cut after missing a 30-yard field goal on the first drive of the season. The Rams recently signed Josh Brown, and subsequently made him the league’s highest paid kicker, which rendered Medlock expendable.

The Chiefs brought back Justin Medlock on Tuesday, when they signed him to their practice squad, the Kansas City Star reports. Medlock was released on Monday.

Justin Medlock had a rough night on Thursday. He missed field goal attempts of 42 and 37 yards but did hit from 34 yards. The Chiefs lost 11-10. “I walked up to him after the second one,” head coach Herm Edwards tells the Kansas City Star, “and I said, ‘Hey, let me tell you something. We drafted you because you’re a good kicker. You’ll get another chance to kick before the night is over and you’ll make the next one.’ And he made it. At that point, we were winning the game.” Medlock did not speak with reporters after the game.

Justin Medlock started out camp well, but he's been a little shaky lately. Head coach Herm Edwards is not concerned. “We haven’t played a game yet,” Edwards tells the Kansas City Star. “So I’m not going to panic about what’s going on out here. He’s missed a couple. Big deal. I’d like him to miss them all out here and not miss them in a game."
