Week 3 inactives: QB John Beck (3rd), WR Brandon London, RB Jalen Parmele, G Shawn Murphy, DE Lionel Dotson, OT Nate Garner, OT Kirk Barton, and DE Rodrique Wright.

Our View:Move along. Nothing to see here. The Dolphins didn't have even one guy on the injury report this week.

QB John Beck (3rd), WR Brandon London, RB Jalen Parmele, G Shawn Murphy, DE Lionel Dotson, T Nate Garner, T Kirk Barton, DE Rodrique Wright.

Our View:None of the players on this inactive list possess any fantasy relevance.

Baltimore could have interest in John Beck, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:With the current status of Kyle Boller up in the air, this may be a good fit for both Baltimore and Beck.

Miami quarterback John Beck, a second-round pick in 2007, is on the bubble and may not make the team, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:Beck was not very good in 2007, and has been relegated to probable third-team status if he makes the team. It seems likely the team would try to make a trade with him, but other squads are aware that either Beck or Josh McCown will have to be cut, so there may not be a need to make a trade.

The Dolphins are looking for a fourth-round draft pick in exchange for second-year quarterback John Beck, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:The Cowboys are shopping Beck, but not Josh McCown. It is unlikely the Dolphins would get a fourth rounder for Beck, but it really depends on how desperate a team is to add depth at quarterback.
August 18, 2008
The Miami Herald states that John Beck is on the Cowboys' radar. They are showing mild interest in the second-year quarterback.

Our View:The Cowboys are not content with their current options at quarterback behind starter Tony Romo.
August 14, 2008
The Miami Herald disputes the rumor circulating that John Beck is close to being released by the Dolphins.

Our View:Beck participated in drills and is readying for the next practice in a couple of hours, meaning he is still a member of the Dolphins. Beck was a second-round pick in 2007, and didn't fare too bad despite a lack of a good supporting cast, so it does seem odd that he would be released.

Coach Tony Sparano noted that the Dolphins may carry four quarterbacks heading into Week 1, according to the Miami Herald. Sparano said, "Throughout the rest of training camp we'll see how things go. I expect that we'll have four quarterbacks for a while. We might just keep four quarterbacks at the end of this thing."

Our View:Chad Pennington looks to be the starter, with Josh McCown the projected primary backup. That will leave rookie Chad Henne and John Beck to fight for clipboard duty as the third quarterback on the depth chart, but it looks like both will make the final roster.

Updating an earlier report in which we cited unnamed sources with the Miami Dolphins claiming the leash for young quarterback John Beck is getting shorter by the day, we have now learned the Fins are in fact giving Beck a short timeframe to show and prove. To be more specific, he is granted two weeks, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:PFW reports their team insider has been told that Beck will be granted two more weeks to practice and play in preseason action. If he fails to showcase the progress coach Tony Sparano and leader Bill Parcells wish to see, he will be traded or granted his release. The Fins have no desire to carry four quarterbacks through the season and view Josh McCown as a veteran arm to fill the backup duties behind Chad Pennington. Chad Henne has shown promise and is easily coached, thus the desire to mentor him for the future is likely to end Beck's short and uninspired tenure in Miami.

John Beck remains inconsistent, according to the Palm Beach Post. He is efficient with underneath passes, but he keeps sailing throws on longer routes to the sideline.

Our View:Josh McCown is far from a solid quarterback, but in Miami, he continues to hold an edge for the starting gig.
July 27, 2008
Tony Sparano has not been pleased with the quarterback play thus far in camp according to the AP. On Sunday, John Beck threw more interceptions (3) than touchdowns (0), including back-to-back picks in limited action.

Our View:Ugh. Chad Henne wasn't much better and John McCown, the rumored favorite, did not even get reps with the first team. Avoid the Miami quarterbacks in your drafts.

To say John Beck's rookie season didn't go well would be putting it nicely. But Beck's coaches have raced about the second-year quarterback's work ethic over the offseason. "I guarantee it, nobody in the league has worked any harder than John Beck," offensive coordinator Dan Henning said in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "From the first day that David Lee came here as a quarterbacks coach, [Beck] has thrown somewhere in the neighborhood between 6,000 and 7,000 balls and if you want to see them we have them all on tape."

Our View:Beck is battling Josh McCown for the starting job in Miami, while rookie Chad Henne is on the outside looking in for the time being.
May 27, 2008
The Miami Dolphins quarterback competition appears to be between John Beck and Josh McCown, according to the Sporting News. Beck and McCown are getting substantial reps with the first-team offense during organized team activities and mini-camps, while rookie Chad Henne is still working on his transition to the pro game.

Our View:The Dolphins coaching staff would like to see Beck seize the starting role, as McCown has been nothing more than a journeyman during his career.

Coach Tony Sparano commented on second year pro John Beck, according to the Palm Beach Post. Sparano said, " John, just like everybody else, is out here right now trying to learn what we're doing. In fact, for the last couple of days, John has thrown the ball very well. We were happy to see what we've seen the last couple of days. They're all kind of growing together. Our offense has kind of been around the horn one time. This is the second time through and they're getting a chance now to do it out there on the field and actively be out there throwing the ball to the receivers and doing those types of things. What I've seen, from a mechanical standpoint, QB coach David Lee has done a wonderful job with him right now of trying to help him, Josh McCown and all these guys, mechanically and fundamentally. I see some improvement there. I think he can draw on some of the experiences John had last year at the end of the season. There is nothing like ending the season by taking the team down the field a couple of times and having some scoring drives. For the most part, we all know that somewhere along the line we hope his best football is ahead of him. I think that's important. For now, as I've told all of them, I'm looking at this thing as a blank piece of paper right now. In my mind, what we see right now and what we do on the practice field as we get ready to go here is really how we'll make our evaluations. And I think that's important for him, too."

Our View:Beck has improved in the off-season and is being groomed to be the franchise starter in Miami, but for 2008, he will compete with Josh McCown for the starting job. Rookie Chad Henne will be in the mix too, but should finish third in the competition.

The Dolphins report QB John Beck has increased his playing weight to 218 pounds, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Our View:Beck says he feels stronger and is looking forward to proving himself in training camp.

The Miami Dolphins still don't know whether quarterback John Beck will become a mainstay at the position for years to come - but they at least seem poised to give him a shot, according to the Sporting News. Miami likes Beck's work ethic, his passion and his arm strength. Now, the team will let quarterbacks coach David Lee work with him to tweak a few of his mechanical tendencies, including raising his release point. The Dolphins want Beck to release the ball above his shoulder so that his lack of size (6-2, 216) doesn't become a problem when he is trying to throw over tall linemen. And Beck is definitely open to change. He has thrown nearly 4,000 balls already this offseason, and his relentless work ethic has earned him the early admiration of the new regime.

Our View:Josh McCown currently sits at the top of the depth chart, but he's nothing more than stopgap solution. We will get a better gauge for how the organization really feels about Beck after the draft, because there are rumors swirling that the organization could select a quarterback with one of their two second round draft picks.

The Miami Dolphins definitely have plans for quarterback John Beck, according to the Miami Herald. The article states that when head coach Tony Sparano talks with his coaches and confidants about Miami's need to get leadership from younger players, he mentions the second-year quarterback. Sparano thinks great teams are ones with leaders that are in their third, fourth and fifth seasons - guys in their prime. Sparano has been mentioning Ronnie Brown, Ted Ginn Jr. and Beck as guys that will be the nucleus of the team in the next couple of years.

The Dolphins hired Dan Henning on Monday to take over as the team's OC. Henning returns to the place where he was a QB and WR coach in 1979 and 1980. Henning has also worked with Bill Parcells when they were both in New York with the Jets. The Fish have plenty of holes to fill on offense starting with decisions at QB, RB and WR, so Henning figures to have his work cut out for himself.
