Coach Herm Edwards wants Jamaal Charles to be more of a factor in the Chiefs offense. "He needs to touch the ball more," Edwards said in the Kansas City Star. Charles gained 28 yards on five carries in the Week 1 loss to New England.

Our View:Charles won't be challenging Larry Johnson for the starting job or even split carries with him, but it's obvious Edwards intends to use him more, which could make him a viable starter in the right matchup.

Jamaal Charles returned to practice Monday after dealing with a shoulder ailment, according to the KC Star.

Our View:He missed the last two preseason games, but should be ready to play against the Rams. As of now, Kolby Smith remains Larry Johnson's primary backup.

Jamaal Charles is having issues with fumbling in training camp, according to the KC Star. He also slipped on grass still wet from a morning rain today when he had some open field ahead.

Our View:Charles had trouble holding onto the ball on the collegiate level at Texas, and could fall out of contention for the primary backup job at running back behind starter Larry Johnson if he doesn't learn to secure the ball better.

Jamaal Charles has been impressing the Chiefs' coaching staff with his speed, according to the KC Star. Both Herman Edwards and quarterback Brodie Croyle said that Charles is the fastest player they had seen. Charles beat a cornerback and a safety to the sideline for a big gain on a toss play Tuesday.

Our View:Charles is faring well so far in his bid to serve as Larry Johnson's primary backup. He is battling second-year pro Kolby Smith for the job. Smith was unable to compete Tuesday due to a groin ailment.

Jamaal Charles has impressed the coaching staff of the Chiefs with his speed and ability to make defenders miss when in open space. His early spring workouts have been so impressive that he reportedly a lock to make the team, and the staff has already designed specific packages so they can take advantage of his skill-set.

Our View:The Chiefs first of two third-round picks (76th overall) will challenge incumbent backup Kolby Smith for playing time this summer. He currently has no fantasy value despite his impressive spring.

The Chicago Bears have scheduled a private workout with Texas running back Jamaal Charles, according to the Austin American-Statesman. The Bears are unhappy with the production of Cedric Benson, who hasn’t been able to stay healthy since being selected with the fourth pick of the 2005 draft. Benson rushed for 674 yards last season but missed the last six games with a fractured ankle, and his status for the beginning of the 2008 season is uncertain. Several draft sites have Charles projected to go in the second or third round of the draft.

The Dallas Cowboys have invited Texas running back Jamaal Charles for a visit, according to USA Today. Running back is a huge priority for Dallas because they have a lack of bodies at the position. Julius Jones is gone to the Seahawks and starter Marion Barber has yet to sign his restricted free-agent tender. The Cowboys are not worried about losing Barber, but they have no experienced or quality depth behind him at the position. The organization would like to find a complementary back for Barber, preferably in the second round, and Charles has the speed and shiftiness to fill the bill.
