Left guard Andrew Whitworth was placed on injured reserve, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He suffered a high ankle sprain two weeks ago.

Our View:Whitworth signed a $30 million extension in the offseason. His loss will certainly have a negative effect on an already struggling offense.

The Bengals have secured tackle Andrew Whitworth through 2013, signing the offensive lineman to a new four-year contract extension, according to Bengals.com.

Our View:We reported this would be coming as the Bengals passed on the opportunity to sign Stacy Andrews to a long-term deal. Reports indicate that with incentives the new money can total as much as $30 million for Whitworth, a 2nd-round pick in 2006.

According to the Bengals team website, with Tuesday's deadline gone and no long-term deal for franchise player Stacy Andrews, the team is believed to be talking to the agent for left guard Andrew Whitworth about parameters for an extension.

Our View:Domata Peko was extended last month and it's now believed thatWhitworth has become a solid starter and worthy of a new deal.
