August 7, 2008 Offensive lineman Charles Spencer was released by the Panthers because he was overweight, according to the Houston Chronicle. Our View:Spencer was the first pick of the third round in 2006, so he was highly thought of at one point. Maybe if he can get in better shape, he'll get another chance with somebody else. |

July 23, 2008 Offensive lineman Charles Spencer , released yesterday by the Houston Texans, has been claimed by the Carolina Panthers, according to Scout.com. Our View:Spencer is a versatile lineman, capable of filling backup roles at both guard and tackle. The Panthers recognize the value of such a commodity and wasted no time in adding him to the roster. We doubt he battles for starting snaps, but he'll play a pertinent role in the effort should injury become an issue. |

February 23, 2008 Charles Spencer has been cleared to resume working out with his teammates and take part in the Texans' entire offseason program, according to the Houston Chronicle. "When we start the offseason program, he'll be right in there with the football team," coach Gary Kubiak said. "When we get to (on-field team activities), he will be cut loose to go play." He missed all of last season and most of his rookie campaign due to a serious knee injury. The Texans aren't counting on him contributing next season, but it would be a real bonus if can. |
