Player Notes
December 22, 2006
Leon Washington split the first-team work with Kevan Barlow at Thursday's practice, the New York Daily News reports. With Cedric Houston (calf) very questionable at best for Monday - the paper says he's unlikely to play - Washington should be looking at double-digit touches Monday night, with more possible if he shows something early. Of course the Jets are always very secretive about their game plans and rotation plans, so Washington certainly comes with a downside to be concerned with, too.

Leon Washington, Cedric Houston and Kevan Barlow all received reps at Thursday's practice, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. It's possible all three could dress Sunday against the Bills, though Houston's strong effort last week at Green Bay probably is enough to give him the starting nod.
December 5, 2006
Jets coach Eric Mangini said that the rotation between Leon Washington, Cedric Houston and Kevan Barlow will be evaluated week to week, according to Newsday. "I'm pretty content with the competition and the work that they do and the ability to play each guy to their strengths, play him within the package," Mangini said yesterday. "To me, practice is very important, and it's going to continue to affect the game and who plays." Washington picked up 40 yards and a score on seven carries in Week 13.

Leon Washington and Kevan Barlow split time with the first team at Thursday's practice, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. Washington has been getting the heavier share of the game work over the past month or so, but the game flow at Foxboro Sunday will probably have a lot to say with how the Jets use their backs in Week 10. Washington's stock may have slipped a bit after he lost a key fumble in the second half of the loss to Cleveland, albeit he's still got more upside to his game than Barlow does.
October 27, 2006
Leon Washington worked with the first team at Thursday's practice and is expected to start his third straight game Sunday at Cleveland, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. The Jets will probably give Washington plenty of work in single-back sets, then use Kevan Barlow as the short-yardage and change-of-pace guy when the offense adds a fullback. Washington is averaging 4.9 yards a carry as a rookie, while Barlow is plodding along at 3.0 per carry.
October 22, 2006
Leon Washington started for the Jets on Sunday and ran for a career-high 129 yards on 20 carries. Washington had a pair of TD runs on the day. It is obvious that Washington is now the top option at tailback in New York, though Kevan Barlow had a decent game Sunday, as well.
October 15, 2006
Leon Washington started and led the Jets with 58 yards on 11 carries on Sunday. Kevan Barlow still got plenty of work, as he rushed 13 times for 45 yards. Washington has definitely carved out a role in the offense, but it's unclear when he might get a shot at an every-down role.
October 13, 2006
Leon Washington is expected to come off the bench Sunday with Kevan Barlow starting, according to the New York Daily News. We'd still expect Washington to get a healthy share of the work, off his 101-yard showing last week.
October 11, 2006
The Jets stated on Tuesday that they know Kevan Barlow isn't a long-term solution at running back, so it's safe to assume that Leon Washington will continue to see plenty of work in the coming weeks, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. We basically learned this on Sunday when Washington picked up 101 yards on 23 carries, but it's good to have some confirmation.
October 8, 2006
Jets rookie Leon Washington rushed for 101 yards on 23 carries against the Jaguars on Sunday. The Jets fell behind early, but it still says something that Washington got almost all of the team's carries after the first quarter.
October 1, 2006
Leon Washington dressed on Sunday against the Colts and carried nine times for 33 yards. Meanwhile, Kevan Barlow and Cedric Houston received 13 and 12 carries, respectively. While it's good to see Washington getting some action, it'll be hard for him to have much fantasy value when he's behind Barlow and Houston in the pecking order.
September 29, 2006
Leon Washington is expected to dress for Sunday's game with the Colts. He looked decent in his first pro action last week, catching two passes for 52 yards and rushing seven times for 25 yards. Cedric Houston is also expected to work behind Kevan Barlow, while Derrick Blaylock probably won't be active.
