Player Notes
October 10, 2008
Brodie Croyle has admitted to rhythm and timing issues throughout practice this week, according to the KC Star.

Our View:While he has healed from his separated right shoulder, he still needs to shake off some rust. The team hopes he can get back on track to start in Week 7 following this week's bye.
October 6, 2008
Brodie Croyle (shoulder) will start under center for the Chiefs in Week 7, according to the Kansas City Star. "If I’m healthy, I’m going to go," Croyle said today. "I just have to make sure that over the next two weeks that everything keep going the way it’s supposed to be and we don’t have any setbacks."

Our View:Croyle likely gives the team its best chance to win, though that isn't saying much given the often terrible work the club has gotten from Damon Huard and Tyler Thigpen.
October 5, 2008
Chiefs inactives: QB Ingle Martin (3rd), QB Brodie Broyle, LB Napoleon Harris, LB Donnie Edwards, G Brian De La Puente, T Branden Albert, WR Mark Bradley, DT T.J. Jackson.

Our View:Damon Huard will start for the second straight week in place of Croyle, who continues to rehab the shoulder injury.
October 1, 2008
During the Chiefs practice on Wednesday Brodie Croyle was back put was limited, according to the Chiefs official web site.

Our View:With Croyle starting to throw and participate in some practice probably means he is getting closer to his return. He has been out since the season opener.
September 24, 2008
Brodie Croyle has resumed light throwing according to the AP.

Our View:Croyle separated his shoulder in the season opener at New England on September 7th. It is expected he will return on October 19 against Tennessee. In the meantime, expect Damon Huard to make the starts at quarterback in Kansas City.
September 22, 2008
Brodie Croyle will not play until October 19th due to his injured shoulder, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:The Chiefs have a bye in Week 6, so the team appears willing to give him another week to heal which is why the date of October 19th has been tossed out there as it's the week after the bye.
September 21, 2008
Week 3 inactives: QB Brodie Croyle, QB Ingle Martin (3rd), CB Patrick Surtain, RB Dantrell Savage, LB Napoleon Harris, G Brian De La Puente, T Barry Richardson, and WR Jeff Webb.

Our View:The good news is that defensive ends Tamba Hali (knee) and Turk McBride (stomach) will both play.
September 15, 2008
Brodie Croyle will not play in Week 3 for the Chiefs. Croyle is suffering from an injured shoulder, according to NFL.com.

Our View:The Chiefs quarterback situation is a mess. With Damon Huard also hurt, Tyler Thigpen could start in Week 3.
September 14, 2008
Week 2 inactives: QB Martin Ingle, QB Brodie Croyle, RB Dantrell Savage, CB Maurice Leggett, LB Napoleon Harris, G Brian De La Puente, T Barry Richardson, WR Will Franklin.

Our View:Veteran quarterback Damon Huard will start in place of Croyle, who has a separated shoulder. In 12 career starts at home, Huard is 8-4 with 15 touchdowns against eight interceptions, good for a 90.3 QB Rating. Additionally, Huard is 2-0 as a starter vs. the Raiders.
September 12, 2008
Coach Herman Edwards stated that Brodie Croyle won't lose his starting job due to his separated shoulder and will resume his role as soon as he is deemed healthy to return, according to the KC Star.

Our View:That could potentially change if Damon Huard performs well as the starter while Croyle is out. The Chiefs will host the Raiders in Week 2, who were lit up for 41 points last Monday against Denver. Croyle is expected to miss one additional game after Oakland.
September 10, 2008
In Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards weekly news conference he said today that starting quarterback Brodie Croyle is definitely out this week with a separated shoulder, according to Chiefs.com.

Our View:With Croyle out veteran Damon Huard will get the start under center.
September 9, 2008
Brodie Croyle is expected to miss Week 2 due to his separated shoulder, and could miss at least one more game after that, according to the KC Star.

Our View:The Chiefs are planning to start Damon Huard against Oakland in Week 2. Tyler Thigpen could get consideration as the starter in the following week’s game against the Falcons, but coach Herman Edwards wouldn’t address the subject beyond the Oakland game. The Chiefs are also expected to audition Chris Simms and Tim Rattay.
September 7, 2008
Brodie Croyle suffered a separated right shoulder in Sunday's season opener, the Kansas City Star reports. The team has not said how long they expect him to be out. His arm was in a sling after the game.

Our View:If you recall, Eli Manning separated his right shoulder in the season opener last year. Reports initially said he'd miss a month, and he ended up suiting up in Week 2. In other words, we imagine it will take a day or three for the Chiefs to figure out how bad this injury is. Damon Huard stands to start if Croyle is out.
September 7, 2008
Quarterback Brodie Croyle has left the season opener against the Patriots due to a shoulder contusion. Damon Huard has entered the game.

Our View:We imagine Croyle is questionable for his return, and after leading the team to only three points, this might be a blessing in disguise. We'll update Brodie's status when more is known.
August 23, 2008
Brodie Croyle put forth another lackluster effort in Saturday's preseason loss to Miami, completing just 12-of-21 passes for 110 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.

Our View:Croyle isn't even backup material in standard leagues.
August 17, 2008
Brodie Croyle was unimpressive in Saturday's exhibition game against the Cardinals, according to the KC Star. He only completed 7-of-13 passes for 38 yards, with no touchdowns or interceptions.

Our View:Croyle should be the Week 1 starting quarterback, but should be avoided in fantasy drafts.
August 7, 2008
Brodie Croyle went 6-for-10 for 82 yards in the Chiefs 24-20 win over the Bears.

Our View:Croyle played the entire first quarter, and played an okay game, fumbling once but not losing it. He has little fantasy value.
August 7, 2008
The Chiefs are planning on letting the bulk of their starters (not including running back Larry Johnson and tight end Tony Gonzalez) work extended periods into their first preseason game of the season, played on Thursday night against the Chicago Bears, according to the Kansas City Star. “The young guys need to play a lot,” coach Herm Edwards said. “It’s according to what kind of team you’ve got. That’s the point we’re at right now. We’re not a veteran football team anymore. We’re the other way, so these guys have to play a lot."

Our View:The Chiefs are relying on a multitude of young players this year and thus the need to get comfort on the field is a priority. That will allow fantasy owners to get a decent view of the starting lineups (and see if there are any hidden gems beyond LJ, Gonzo, and Dwayne Bowe).
June 13, 2008
Head coach Herm Edwards reiterated Thursday that quarterback Brodie Croyle’s job is safe and that he will enter training camp as the starter, according to the Kansas City Star. “It’s his team now,” Edwards said at Spratt Stadium on the Missouri Western campus in St. Joseph. “But he knows that, really to win them over, he’s got to win.”

Our View:Croyle’s competition last year, Damon Huard, will not have his job so clearly defined. Huard spent the last four weeks as the No. 3 quarterback, behind second-year passer Tyler Thigpen. Huard and Thigpen will do battle in training camp for the right to backup Croyle.
May 23, 2008
Brodie Croyle has looked sharp in the early OTAs, albeit without pads and a pass rush. "He’s done a good job," head coach Herm Edwards informs the team's official web site. Tight end Tony Gonzalez adds, "He’s thrown the ball well. I think he’s going to have a big year."

Our View:Croyle was in a very tough situation last year, as the Chiefs were an awful team and he was only in his second season. We anticipate another campaign of learning in 2008, as the Chiefs are in rebuilding mode. We're just looking for some sparks that make Brodie worth looking at in keeper leagues.
April 24, 2008
Head coach Herm Edwards said the Kansas City Chiefs might spend the days before Saturday's NFL draft examining the possibility of trading for even more draft picks, according to the Kansas City Star. Kansas City entered this week with 10 draft picks. But Tuesday night's trade of All-Pro defensive end Jared Allen gave the Chiefs three more - for a total of six of the draft's first 82 choices. "It’s not over," Edwards said. "Right now, we have 13. We might end up with more than that. Who knows?"

Our View:Currently, Kansas City has the No. 5 and the No. 17 overall picks, the latter of which the Chiefs acquired - along with a pair of third-round selections - in the Allen trade.
April 23, 2008
Don't believe for a second that the Kansas City Chiefs will use their draft picks to move up in order to select Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan, according to ESPN. The Chiefs still plan to go with Brodie Croyle as their starter, as they aren't ready to hand over the starting job or the franchise to a rookie quarterback in 2008.

Our View:The Chiefs have holes all over the roster so it doesn’t make much sense to package picks in order to move up. The trade of Jared Allen creates a gaping hole at defensive end, and the offensive line is in shambles as well. This is a critical draft for the Chiefs, who have six of the top 82 picks in the draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs' proposal calling for all players to tuck or cut long hair so it doesn't hang below the nameplate on their uniform was tabled until the next NFL owners meeting in May, according to ESPN. In delaying any vote on the hair issue, the NFL will have time to listen to feedback from the players association.
March 25, 2008
If coach Herm Edwards didn't accuse the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and St. Louis Rams of cheating when they signed free agents of interest to the Kansas City Chiefs, he certainly implied it, according to FanNation. During a news conference called to announce plans for his football camp in Kansas City, Edwards indicated the Chiefs were as aggressive as NFL rules allowed them to be in pursuing center Jeff Faine and kicker Josh Brown. NFL rules prohibit teams from contacting prospective free agents or their agents until the new league year begins. This year, that was at 11 p.m. Feb. 28. "There were probably some deals done before (the start of the league year)," Edwards said when asked why the Chiefs didn't get in the game with either player. "We didn't cheat. We abided by the rules. That's how you're supposed to do it, and that's what we did." Looks like another situation where Commissioner Roger Goodell could get involved with additional investigation.
March 7, 2008
The Kansas City Chiefs have been very quiet on the free agent front, some of which is because potential free agents are shunning the organization, according to Pro Football Weekly. Head coach Herman Edwards reportedly wants to obtain eight new starters during the offseason, but two players they were interested in declined to visit with the organization. Both center Jeff Faine and kicker Josh Brown were coveted by Kansas City, but neither opted to even schedule a visit leaving the impression that veterans find Kansas City an unattractive place to play. Looks like its going to be a long, and possibly ugly rebuilding process in Kansas City.
