Wideout Derek Hagan worked out for the Minnesota Vikings on Friday, days after his release from the Dolphins, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Our View:Hagan was a third-round pick in 2006 who was not a favorite of the Dolphins current regime. He showed some signs of production last year, catching 29 passes for 372 yards and two scores, but only played in four games before being axed.

Wide receiver Derek Hagan was released from the Dolphins on Tuesday, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Our View:Hagan had no fantasy value this year.

Dolphins inactives: QB John Beck (3rd), G Shawn Murphy, DE Lionel Dotson, T Nate Garner, T Kirk Barton, TE Joey Haynos, WR Derek Hagan, DE Rodrique Wright.

Our View:None of the players on this list are fantasy relevant.

The Sun-Sentinel reports that head coach Tony Sparano has issued a challenge to his receivers, including third-year receiver Derek Hagan. "I need someone to step up and make a big play," Sparano said. "I'm hoping to see some of our receivers step up, make a big play, break a tackle, run after the catch."

Our View:Hagan, who had all three of his receptions for 51 yards Sunday, is hoping to answer Sparano's challenge. "We just know when our number is called we just have to take advantage of those plays and hope we make the play, get a first down," Hagan said. Chad Pennington and his weak arm is partially to be blamed for this but expect the Dolphins WRs to make some noise at some point this season.

The Miami Herald reports that Derek Hagan has been working as the No. 1 receiver with the Dolphins this week. He intends to embrace the role and said, "I am back where I need to be."

Our View:Heading into Week 1 he was demoted to the No. 3 role behind Greg Camarillo, and a rotation seems likely over the course of the season until one of the receivers makes an impact and proves his worth as a starter.

Derek Hagan has supplanted Ernest Wilford and is now being listed with the first team, according to the Palm Beach Post. In fact, Wilford is now being listed behind Ted Ginn as well.

Our View:Hagan has had a wonderful camp and continues to grow in importance with the club while the fortunes of Wilford continue to tumble.

Wide receiver Derek Hagan's camp performance is drawing rave reviews from teammates, according to the Miami Herald. The 2006 third-round draft pick always has been viewed as a talent, but dropped passes the past two seasons raised questions. Through the first few days of camp, he has consistently caught passes and showed aggressiveness and ability to make big plays in traffic. "His work habits went up 10 notches," Dolphins cornerback Andre' Goodman said. "I love the guy. I'm a Derek Hagan fan right now." Hagan believes he is poised for his best season. "I'm not playing behind two former Pro Bowlers," he said Tuesday, referring to departed veteran receivers Chris Chambers and Marty Booker. "Those guys are gone, and now it's my turn. The Dolphins drafted me for a reason. The time is now."

Our View:He will have to continue to shine if he expects to get opportunities. The Dolphins are expected to sign veteran Terry Glenn soon. Also in his path are last year's first-round pick, Ted Ginn Jr. and recently signed Ernest Wilford. We don't expect Hagan to have much a fantasy impact in 2008, expecially with one of the league's worst quarterback situations.

Derek Hagan is performing well so far in the off-season with Miami, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Hagan has personally set high expecations for himself, and coach Tony Sparano said, "I heard all the stories and all that, and I know the kid was out here on his own time spending a lot of time catching balls from the jugs machine, catching balls with the quarterbacks and doing all those things. I really like where this guy is right now and I think he's playing with a little bit of confidence, and is playing fast."

Our View:Hagan is entering his third pro season, which is generally when receivers break out and take the next step. He is holding on to the ball and running more precise routes, and believes he is ready to take that next step. He could rank as a solid sleeper for 2008.

New receivers coach Karl Dorrell has been impressed with third-year receiver Derek Hagan in minicamp. "There's no question he's at a level right now where he should be an excellent starter in this league," Dorrell told the Miami Herald. "He's strong, physical, very bright, has good speed for his size."

Our View:Many receivers have broken out in their third year. Might Hagan be the next? He is expected to start opposite Ten Ginn.
