Player Notes
October 12, 2008
Quarterback Jay Cutler completed 21-of-37 passes for 192 yards, two scores, and one interception in the Week 6 loss to the Jaguars. He also rushed three times for 22 yards and lost a fumble.

Our View:That's only the second time in the last 13 games that Cutler has been held below 200 yards, but he made up for it with two touchdowns. He has come down off his hot start but remains an every-week play in fantasy leagues.
October 5, 2008
Quarterback Jay Cutler completed 23-of-34 passes for 227 yards with one touchdown against no interceptions in the Week 5 victory over Tampa Bay.

Our View:After throwing eight touchdowns agasinst two interceptions during the first three weeks, Cutler has cooled off considerably during the past two games with only two scoring tosses against two interceptions.

Denver quarterback Jay Cutler was the winner of the AFC's Offensive Player of the Month award for September, according to The Sports Network.

Our View:Culter leads the AFC with his 1,275 passing yards. He has thrown nine touchdowns while being intercepted four times so far this year.
September 28, 2008
Jay Cutler completed 29-of-49 passes for 361 yards and one touchdown against two interceptions in the Week 4 loss to Kansas City.

Our View:Cutler has came back down to earth a little bit during the past two weeks after starting the season on fire. In the first two games of 2008, Cutler posted six touchdowns against one interception. During the past two weeks, he has thrown three touchdowns against three interceptions. Regardless, he is on the brink of joining the elite at his position and should be in your lineup every week.
September 21, 2008
Jay Cutler came back to Earth on Sunday against the Saints but was still good enough to lead the Broncos to a 34-32 victory. He completed 21 of 34 passes for 264 yards, two touchdowns and a pick.

Our View:Both of his TDs came in the first quarter and it appeared Cutler was poised to again be one of the Week's best quarterbacks. However, he got more inconsistent throughout the game and the Broncos elected to run the ball more while trying to protect their lead.
September 14, 2008
Denver quarterback Jay Cutler had a great game against the Chargers, completing 36 of his 50 pass attempts for 350 yards and four touchdowns with an interception in the Broncos thrilling 39-38 win.

Our View:Cutler is one of the top quarterbacks in fantasy leagues right now, easily outperforming some who were likely taken ahead of him, such as Carson Palmer. With the return of Brandon Marshall, a slowdown does not seem likely.
September 9, 2008
Jay Cutler shot down the Raiders in Monday's 41-14 win as he completed 16-of-24 passes for 299 yards and two scores, one to Eddie Royal and the other to Darrell Jackson. Jackson's score went 48 yards, but was his only catch in the game.

Our View:Cutler is expected to have a breakout campaign in 2008, and his solid effort in the Broncos' opener solidifies that belief. Denver hosts the Chargers in Week 2.
August 22, 2008
Jay Cutler threw two passes into the arms of receivers who found their way to the end zone, but Denver succumbed to the Packers anyway by the score of 27-23. Cutler was 6-of-13 for 115 yards on the night.

Our View:Not the best performance for Cutler, as he completed less than 50 percent of his passes, but many fantasy owners are convinced he is ready to break out.
August 16, 2008
Quarterback Jay Cutler had no problems with the Cowboys defense in Saturday's preseason game. He completed 16-of-20 passes for 178 yards and one touchdown.

Our View:Cutler is now 24-for-30 this preseason, and it looks like he's ready for the real deal. Our only worry is that he'll struggle early in the year without Brandon Marshall. Otherwise, Cutler is showing all the makings of a No. 1 fantasy passer.

The Denver Broncos are happy to report quarterback Jay Cutler is enjoying a wonderful training camp, feeling no ill effects from his recently-diagnosed diabetes and working in top physical shape, according to the Rocky Mountain News.

Our View:Cutler has returned to his normal playing weight, 233 pounds, after shedding pounds due to the diet changes implimented to help his diabetes. Cutler also reports the fatigue and pain he felt during training camp at this time last year is no longer there to be fought, thus he feels great and is rounding into form nicely.

Jay Cutler was outstanding during the team's red zone drills in training camp on Friday, throwing a number of impressive touchdown passes, according to the Denver Post.

Our View:Cutler is arguably a top-10 quarterback this season, so it's good to see him performing well in the most critical area of the field for the team and fantasy players alike.

The Denver Post reports that insulin shots have renewed the velocity in quarterback Jay Cutler's passes. "Coach made a comment about trying to catch his 90 mph fastball," said running back Selvin Young. He added, "It looks good. He's kicking that leg up and launching it right now."

Our View:This is good news. Cutler had looked good in his first two seasons and should progress even further in 2008. Brandon Marshall could serve a suspension which would hurt, but look for Cutler to be a top-10 quarterback this season.

Jay Cutler, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes this off-season, is adjusting well according to Yahoo Sports.

Our View:Cutler lost about 30 pounds last year when no one knew what was going on with his body, but now that the diagnosis is clear Cutler should be in a much better position to keep his body weight right around the 230 pounds he is listed at.

Jay Cutler will wear an insulin pump during practices and pre-game warm-ups to regulate his blood-sugar level, once he gets back to his 238-pound playing weight and his condition fully stabilizes, according to the Rocky Mountain News. Then he'll take the device off for the three hours he plays in games, keeping a close eye on his glucose levels - either between quarters or at halftime - and drinking Gatorade to give his body a boost rather than letting the machine do the work for him. "We wish we would have caught it towards the end of the season, and that's probably my fault, because we were trying to schedule a blood test but I had a lot of things going on. And once the season ended, everybody kind of scatters around here," Cutler said. "But I think we caught it relatively soon. And talking to the doctors, if I get this under control, there shouldn't be any long-term damage."

Our View:Cutler has become educated far beyond his cursory knowledge of the disease. He has regained about 18 of the 30 to 35 pounds he had lost during a five-month span following the 2007 season.

In an interview with CBS 4 in Denver regarding his recent diagnosis with Type I diabetes, Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler says that he was feeling the effects of the condition during the 2007 season, according to Pro Football Talk. “We looked back, and I dropped 8-10 pounds in October,” Cutler said. “So at least six months. The second half of the season [it] was kind of something I was dealing with at the time. I was losing weight, didn’t have a lot of strength. You could tell. Just the way I played, some of the throws that I made didn’t have a lot behind them.”

Our View:With proper daily medical attention, Cutler should be fine.

Jay Cutler has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes that will require daily insulin shots, but his NFL career is not in jeopardy, according to NFL.com.

Our View:With proper medication Culter should be able to play without restrictions, though there is always the chance that this could become a concern at some point based upon a myriad of factors. Until we have more details we cannot comment on the specifics of the situation, but for now we are operating under the assumption that he should be fine.

The Denver Broncos have tabbed young QB Jay Cutler as the future of the organization, and with their approach to this year's NFL Draft, the team continues to show just how seriously they take those goals. With the 12th-overall pick in the Draft, the Broncos selected Boise State OT Ryan Clady, followed by the selection of Virginia Tech WR Eddie Royal in the 2nd round.

Our View:With veteran WR Rod Smith and top offensive lineman Matt Lepsis both retiring this off-season, the Broncos entered the Draft with two obvious and concerning needs. Clady was rated by many scouts as one of the top three tackles available for hire and should battle for a starting role immediately. Royal's true worth has yet to be determined, but with Brandon Marshall, the team's top target now that Smith has gone, suffering a freak arm injury to a lost fight with his television set looming as the top story in Denver football this off-season, it makes all too much sense for the Broncos to take a gamble on the kid out of Va Tech.

The Denver Broncos continue to explore the possibility of moving down from the No. 12 overall pick in 2008 NFL Draft, according to the Denver Post. Logical trade partners would be the Houston Texans, who have the No. 18 pick, and the Dallas Cowboys, who have two first-round selections: Nos. 22 and 28.

Our View:If the Broncos stand pat, the players they are considering with the 12th overall pick include: Running backs Jonathan Stewart of Oregon and Illinois' Rashard Mendenhall; offensive tackles Ryan Clady of Boise State, Virginia's Branden Albert, Vanderbilt's Chris Williams, and Boston College's Gosder Cherilus; and Miami safety Kenny Phillips.

Jay Cutler ripped into wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who suffered a gash on his right forearm while horsing around with a brother last month, according to USA Today. "Yeah, he's not my favorite person right now," Cutler said Tuesday in his first offseason interview. "I mean, I support him, but it's always something with him right now. You can't have that." Cutler said with Jeremy Bates taking over the passing game, the offseason work is important and now Marshall won't be available until the start of training camp in late July at the earliest. Cutler said he wanted to work on new formations and plays and now those are things that might not even come together in camp. Marshall stated recently that he needs to grow up both on and off the field, and it’s apparent that at least one teammate feels the same way.

The Denver Broncos have fired general manager Ted Sundquist, according to Pro Football Talk. Head coach Mike Shanahan said in a statement released by the team: “I am grateful to Ted for all his hard work and efforts on behalf of the Broncos for the past 16 years. Now is the time for our organization to move forward and look at new directions. We are prepared to do so, starting with our ongoing draft planning, and along with continuing preparations for our mini camps and training camp.” Shanahan wields much power in personnel decisions in Denver, so in reality it will be business as usual without Sundquist.

Jay Cutler took just two weeks off following the end of the regular season before hooking up with Brandon Marshall and Tony Scheffler in Atlanta to work out on their own, according to the Rocky Mountain News. All three are young, talented and looking to build upon last season's success. Working on their timing during the offseason should only help them in 2008.
