Vernon Davis expects to play a significant role in the 49ers' offense under the direction of new coordinator Jimmy Raye, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Davis said, "Raye told me the tight end is the focal point. I am looking forward it. He said he wants to get his playmakers involved."

Our View:Davis has the physical tools to dominate at the position, but he only caught 31 passes for 358 yards and two scores last season while ignored in Mike Martz's offense. Davis looks to bounce back in 2009, and could finally be headed for a breakout campaign.

Vernon Davis is likely to be featured more in the 49ers' aerial attack next season under new offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye, according to the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat.

Our View:Davis was virtually ignored in the passing game in 2008 under the direction of Mike Martz. Raye is coming from the Jets, who like to utilize their tight ends. Davis has the skills to dominate at the position, and looks to rank as a potential sleeper for 2009.

Vernon Davis grabbed a two-yard touchdown pass in Sunday's 35-16 loss to the Rams.

Our View:Davis has now scored in two straight games (his only two scores of the year), but unfortunately those were his only two catches of the games.

Vernon Davis spent extra time catching passes after Friday's practice, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View:Perhaps the 49ers intend to utilize Davis more in the passing attack this weekend against the Rams. Davis has been a non-factor in fantasy leagues this season, with only 17 receptions for 214 yards and one score over nine outings.
November 10, 2008
Vernon Davis had just one catch on Monday night, but it was good enough to get him his first touchdown of the season as the 49ers lost 24-29 in Arizona.

Our View:Davis continues to struggle but it seems obvious that he and coach Mike Singletary have ironed out their differences.
