December 31, 2008
The Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals have both been granted extensions by the NFL to sell out their home playoff games, which they must do in order to keep their games from being blacked out on local television, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View:It is common for teams to receive extensions during weeks that fall on holidays, which is the case this week with New Year's Day.
December 30, 2008
The Minnesota Vikings must still sell more than 10,000 seats for their playoff game by Thursday, or the game will be blacked out on local television, according to ProFootballWeekly.com.

Our View:In all likelihood, the Vikings will receive an extension in order to move the tickets. It's a surprise that the team has so many tickets remaining, and would be even if the antiquated black out rule did not exist.
December 29, 2008
Adrian Peterson won the NFL rushing title for 2008 while bruising his way to 1,760 yards in his sophomore campaign with the Vikings.

Our View:He reached at least 100 rushing yards 10 times, with a high of 192 coming in Week 10 against the division rival Packers. He played up to high expectations as a top-3 fantasy pick in most drafts.
December 28, 2008
Running back Adrian Peterson rushed 21 times for 103 yards and a touchdown in the Week 17 victory over the New York Giants.

Our View:It was the fourth 100-yard effort in the last five games for Peterson, who finished the regular season with 10 touchdowns. "All Day" will likely be the consensus No. 1 pick in 99 percent of all fantasy drafts next season.
December 27, 2008
Hoping to avoid the fumbling problems that have plagued him this season, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been carrying a football with him everywhere this week, reports the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Our View:Peterson has put the ball on the ground eight times this season, which is far too many. He says it's all mental and he is trying to get a feel for the ball.
December 21, 2008
Adrian Peterson carried the ball 22 times and gained 76 yards in the Vikings loss to the Falcons on Sunday. He also had two catches and two fumbles while failing to get into the end zone.

Our View:Peterson fumbled on the team's final drive of the game but the Vikings held onto the ball. He has failed to score a touchdown in the last three games.
December 19, 2008
Adrian Peterson was limited in Friday's practice while nursing his ankle ailment, but is probable for Sunday's game against the Falcons, according to the Pioneer Press.

Our View:He should be good to go based on his probable status, and has a favorable match-up against the Falcons' 22nd ranked run defense.
December 18, 2008
Adrian Peterson "downplayed" the severity of his injured ankle despite the fact that he was limited at practice on Thursday, according to the Pioneer Press.

Our View:Peterson should play this weekend against the Falcons, and given his stated goal of wanting to lead the NFL in rushing yards, you can look for him to suit up against his closest competition for the title in Michael Turner (AP leads Turner by 160 yards).
December 18, 2008
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that the ankle injury that limited Adrian Peterson in Wednesday's practice is nothing serious.

Our View:Peterson leads the league in rushing and should be in line for another strong performance against the Falcons this weekend.
December 18, 2008
The Pioneer Press reports that Adrian Peterson wants the rushing title. "It means a lot," Peterson said, when asked about winning the rushing title. "I wouldn’t even lie to you. Coming into the season, that was one of my goals to lead the league in rushing. Right now I’m in a good position."

Our View:He is currently 160 yards ahead of his closest competition, Michael Turner, whom the Vikings happen to be facing this week.
December 14, 2008
Adrian Peterson ran the rock 28 times for 165 yards as Minnesota won in Arizona 35-14 on Sunday. However, the Vikings turned to the air once in the red zone and Peterson failed to get a touchdown.

Our View:He now has nine games with at least 100 yards this season. The zero in the touchdown column was certainly a disappointment for his fantasy owners, but he was still able to be a big factor in yardage leagues.
December 7, 2008
Running back Adrian Peterson rushed 23 times for 102 yards and caught one pass for 15 yards in the Week 14 win over the Lions. He also fumbled three times.

Our View:Fantasy owners obviously expected more out of AP in this soft matchup.
December 5, 2008
Adrian Peterson returned to a full practice Friday after being held out Wednesday and limited Thursday, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:Peterson is not injured, and the Vikings just wanted him to rest up for Sunday's outing at Detroit. Peterson should be headed for another big day against the Lions' 32nd ranked run defense.
November 30, 2008
Adrian Peterson carried the ball 28 times for 131 yards and one touchdown in Week 13.

Our View:Peterson was able to gain 100 yards on the ground again after two weeks held below that mark. He looks like a terrific option next week at Detroit.
November 30, 2008
Adrian Peterson left Sunday's game early in the third quarter with a noticeable limp, but he returned to the field during the following drive.

Our View:There is no word what exactly Peterson hurt, but there doesn't seem to be much reason for concern.
November 30, 2008
Adrian Peterson has a great track record against the Bears as he has generated 423 rushing yards and seven touchdown over three career meetings, according to FOX Sports. He has scored at least two touchdowns in each outing.

Our View:Fantasy owners should expect another stellar performance from Peterson tonight at the Metrodome, even if Chester Taylor cuts into his workload a little bit.
November 26, 2008
Adrian Peterson is averaging 22 rushing attempts per game and coach Brad Childress wants to spell him with Chester Taylor more often in an attempt to keep Peterson healthier for the stretch run, according to the Star Tribune. When Childress was asked if he thinks Peterson will like Taylor getting more involved, Childress responded, "I don't know if he'd be appreciative, but he's on board. All of those guys want to carry it every down. Every receiver wants to catch it every play, every running back wants to run it. We have to get a little mix, and I think he can see the merits of that, certainly in terms of being able to stay."

Our View:Taylor's workload will be a game-by-game decision. Peterson's fantasy owners should not be concerned by a few less carries per game, and could benefit late in the season when fantasy owners need him the most.
November 23, 2008
Head coach Brad Childress said that Adrian Peterson was held out of the first two offensive series today because he was late to a team meeting on Saturday, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View:Peterson also was benched for the Vikings’ opening offensive series in the regular-season finale last year at Denver after being late for a team bus. Peterson's absence allowed Chester Taylor to vulture a short yardage touchdown during the first quarter.
November 23, 2008
Adrian Peterson posted 17 carries for 80 yards and a touchdown in the Week 12 victory over Jacksonville.

Our View:Peterson has rushed for 100 or more yards in four of the past six games with four touchdowns during this time frame.
November 20, 2008
The absence of Adrian Peterson from the Vikings' practice was simply a matter of head coach Brad Childress giving him a rest for general soreness, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Our View:Peterson spent the practice running in a pool, and he is fully expected to play on Sunday, so no need to adjust your lineups.
November 20, 2008
Adrian Peterson is absent from Thursday's practice, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:He isn't believed to be nursing an injury, and it is unclear why he is not in attendance. We will keep you posted on his status.
November 17, 2008
Adrian Peterson did not touch the ball one time on an offensive play in the fourth quarter of the Vikings loss to Tampa, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "There’s limited amount of time and you’re playing a different kind of football generally in the two and half minutes you’re playing in the fourth quarter so whether you would be smart and handing him the football. There’s only a limited number of ways you can get it to him throwing it," said Minnesota coach Brad Childress.

Our View:In fairness, the Vikings did not have the ball from the 14:28 mark of the fourth quarter to the 3:30 mark because they fumbled the kickoff after a long drive by Tampa resulted in a field goal. Nonetheless, three and a half minutes is not a time when you cannot run the football, and Childress dialed up three consecutive passing plays, including two in a row on 2nd and 2 and 3rd and 2. They then punted, but got the ball back after that with just under 2:00 to go, so they had to throw it.
November 16, 2008
Running back Adrian Peterson rushed 19 times for 85 yards in the Week 11 loss to the Buccaneers. He had gone over 110 yards in four straight games.

Our View:We figured it would be a tough tilt against the Bucs. The Vikings have some easier matchups down the stretch, and AP will be fine.
November 12, 2008
Adrian Peterson has been named the NFC Player of the Week after grinding out 192 total yards and a score in a crucial win over the NFC North rival Packers, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:That marks his third career Player of the Week award. He also became the first Vikings' running back to surpass 1,000 rushing yards in each of his first two seasons. Peterson leads the NFL with 1,015 rushing yards.
November 12, 2008
Adrian Peterson has racked up four straight 100-yard rushing efforts, and is one away from Robert Smith's franchise mark set back in 2000, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:Reaching the record won't be easy as he must face the Buccaneers' 11th ranked run defense on their home turf, who will also be well-rested while coming off a bye.
November 11, 2008
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson won the NFL's Offensive Player of the Week award, according to Scout.com. Peterson rushed for 192 yards, including the game-winning 29-yard touchdown run, in Sunday's 28-27 win over the Green Bay Packers. It's the third time in his career he has won the award.

Our View:Peterson has already rushed for 1,015 yards and seven touchdowns in 2008. AP is really starting to his his stride, last week was the fourth straight game he has rushed for over 100 yards.
November 9, 2008
Adrian Peterson lugged the rock 30 times for 192 yards and one touchdown in the Week 10 victory over Green Bay.

Our View:"All Day" also chipped in three receptions for 33 yards and has scored four touchdowns in the past three games. Additionally, Peterson went over 1,000 rushing yards (1,015) in just the ninth game of the season.
November 7, 2008
Adrian Peterson has been named the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week after bruising his way to 139 rushing yards and a touchdown in last Sunday's win over Houston, according to the Pioneer Press. He beat out Brandon Jacobs and Ray Rice for the honor.

Our View:Peterson is averaging 102 rushing yards per game this season, and should continue to see a heavy workload this weekend in a crucial NFC North battle against Green Bay.
November 2, 2008
Adrian Peterson broke loose for 139 rushing yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 28-21 win over Houston. He did not catch a pass in the game.

Our View:Peterson has topped 100 rushing yards in five of eight games this season, with six scores.
October 19, 2008
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson got 22 carries and ran for 121 yards and one score in the team's 48-41 loss to the Bears.

Our View:This was AP's second game in a row with at least 110 yards on the ground. He has taken two weeks off between touchdowns this year, scoring at least one TD in Weeks 1, 4, and 7, respectively.
October 12, 2008
Running back Adrian Peterson received treatment for a sore left wrist after the Week 6 win over the Lions, the Minneapolis Star Tribune notes. He says his wrist is "all right."

Our View:We don't imagine this will be a problem moving forward, but we'll be sure to follow up.
October 12, 2008
Running back Adrian Peterson compiled 25 carries for 111 yards in the Week 6 win over Detroit.

Our View:Peterson has been somewhat of a disappointment this year considering his lofty draft status. This week's performance represented his first 100-yard effort since Week 2, and Peterson has failed to score a touchdown in three of the past four weeks.
October 12, 2008
Adrian Peterson hasn't reached 100-rushing yards in his last three outings, but should get on track and excel today at home against the Lions, according to the Star Tribune. The Lions are ranked near the cellar in run defense, while giving up an average of 180 yards per game.

Our View:Peterson also had 116 yards rushing and two touchdowns last season in the Vikings' 42-10 win over the Lions at the Metrodome. He looks to play up to high expectations as a first-round fantasy pick today.
October 6, 2008
Adrian Peterson carried the ball 21 times for an anemic total of 32 rushing yards in the Vikings Monday night victory over the Saints.

Our View:AP will eventually bust loose and make someone pay for being held down, but the guy is maddeningly inconsistent from week to week. In 19 career outings this was the fifth time he was held to 45 or fewer yards and he has now gone three straight outings without an 85-yard effort.
September 28, 2008
Running back Adrian Peterson rushed 18 times for 80 yards and two scores in the Week 4 loss to the Titans. He also caught four passes for 21 yards.

Our View:The Titans did a pretty good job of bottling up Peterson, but he still had a very solid day for fantasy owners. That's why he is a superstar.
September 28, 2008
Running back Adrian Peterson (hamstring) is active for Week 4. He was listed as questionable.

Our View:Fantasy owners should start the stud, even though he may be a bit limited by his injury and by a strong Titans defense.
September 28, 2008
Vikings running backs Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor offer a unique look to defenses when they line up in the same backfield, but don't expect to see it often, as coach Brad Childress is not enamored with the look, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View:The formation has only been run twice with the team, and even though the runners claim to like it, Childress does not feel comfortable using it.
September 26, 2008
Adrian Peterson (hamstring) is being listed as questionable for the Vikings matchup with the Titans, according to The Pioneer Press.

Our View:AP figures to get his standard 20 touches this weekend even with this designation. He may not post stupendous numbers, but he should still provide plenty of value to be worth starting.
September 25, 2008
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson said that his hamstring is fine, and he will be good to go against the Titans Week 4, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View:Peterson had been dealing with an sore hamstring last week, but that issue seems to be cleared up. Fantasy owners can expect a solid contribution from him against Tennessee, even with their stout run defense.
September 24, 2008
Adrian Peterson fully participated in practice on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Pioneer Press.

Our View:For almost all of practice last week, Peterson was limited and even missed a couple of practices, but still played in Week 3. The news of Peterson having no limitations on his practice schedule is great news for fantasy owners.
September 22, 2008
Adrian Peterson stated that his hamstring did not bother him in Sunday's win over Carolina, according to the Star Tribune. He said, "It held up. I came out feeling good, and it did not bother me in the game."

Our View:This is good news, especially with another tough match-up this weekend at Tennessee.
September 21, 2008
Adrian Peterson carred the ball 17 times for 77 yards in the Week 3 win over Carolina.

Our View:Peterson, who came into the game with questions about his hamstring. averaged 4.5 yards per carry on the afternoon. This game marked the first time this season that Peterson failed to rush for 100 or more yards.
September 21, 2008
Adrian Peterson will be active for today’s game against Carolina despite a hamstring injury that limited him in practice last week, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View:It’s still expected that veteran running back Chester Taylor will get far more carries than the 4.5 he has averaged in the first two games this season.
September 21, 2008
The NFL Network's Adam Schefter reported this morning that running back Adrian Peterson (hamstring) was limited in practice on Friday and Saturday, but the Vikings are encouraged with his progress over the past couple of days.

Our View:Peterson is still a game-time decision. If "All Day can't go, Chester Taylor would handle the brunt of the rushing load against Carolina.
September 19, 2008
Adrian Peterson was limited in Friday's practice due to tightness in his hamstring and coach Brad Childress indicated that he will be a game-time decision Sunday against Carolina, according to the Pioneer Press.

Our View:Childress will consult with Peterson and the Vikings' medical staff before making a decision on his availability. He noted that he doesn't want the hamstring injury to become a chronic problem. Fantasy owners should have Chester Taylor ready to go in case Peterson is held out.
September 19, 2008
Adrian Peterson is dealing with tightness in his hamstring, but intends to play Sunday against the Panthers, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:While he is optimistic he will play, he still didn't practice Thursday and was limited Wednesday. Hamstring injuries have potential for further damage and serious lingering effects, so the Vikings will remain highly cautious with their prized runner. Chester Taylor looks to play an expanded role this week, and would start if the team decides to hold Peterson out.
September 18, 2008
Adrian Peterson was held out of Thursday's practice while nursing a sore hamstring, according to the Star Tribune. Coach Brad Childress said, "He didn’t participate today so that probably says what it says. DNP. He was limited Wednesday. It’s a concern. Your legs are your legs. We’ll just see how he comes out by the time we get to Sunday."

Our View:To make matters worse, the Vikings' receiving corps is banged up, namely Sidney Rice (sprained PCL) and Bernard Berrian (toe). We will keep you posted on Peterson's status.
September 17, 2008
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was limited during practice on Wednesday due to a sore hamstring. The Vikings don't have to list Peterson's status until Friday, according to Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View:Peterson has rushed for over a 100 yards in each of the two Vikings games this year. If Peterson is limited in the game, backup Chester Taylor will see more carries.
September 17, 2008
Adrian Peterson is averaging 100.3 rushing yards over his first 16 games in the NFL, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:Peterson looks to stay on track this weekend against the Panthers.
September 15, 2008
Adrian Peterson broke loose for 160 rushing yards against Indianapolis Sunday, and set a franchise record for 100-yard performances in his first two seasons with eight, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:There should be plenty more 100-yard outings from the Vikings' stud rusher this season. Peterson also set a team record for rushing yards in the first quarter (72) and registered the fifth-best rushing total for a half (118) in team history.
September 14, 2008
The Vikings failed to beat the Colts at home in Week 2 despite the best efforts of Adrian Peterson. AD ran for 160 yards on 29 carries while adding 20 yards on four catches.

Our View:Two games, two 100-yard effort for Peterson.
September 8, 2008
Adrian Peterson rushed 19 times for 103 yards and a touchdown and also caught an 11-yard pass in the Vikings' Week 1 loss.

Our View:Peterson handled most the load for the Vikings and looked as explosive as ever. He gave fantasy owners exactly what they paid for, 100+ yards and a TD.
August 15, 2008
Vikings' O.C. Darrell Bevell stated that he expects Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor to have less rushing attempts this season and more pass receptions, according to the Pioneer Press. The Vikings offense is looking to be more balanced this season, and Bevell added that he feels the team has two No. 1 backs with Peterson and Taylor.

Our View:Peterson ranks No. 2 among fantasy backs behind only LaDainian Tomlinson, and his scoring in PPR leagues looks to increase based on this news. Less carries could also keep him healthier over the stretch run of the season, when fantasy owners need him the most.
August 2, 2008
Adrian Peterson is confident and comfortable as the Vikings' offensive leader as he prepares for his second NFL campaign, according to the Star Tribune. He feels like a more complete back, capable of playing on every down. He has worked hard to gain a better understanding of blocking schemes, as well as working on being a more patient runner. Running backs coach Eric Bieniemy said, "He's stepping up his game professionally. He's taking his playbook home. Things are starting to make a little bit more sense to him. I think that's the giant step he's taking forward."

Our View:Peterson has also stated on several occasions that he set a personal goal to reach the 2,000-yard mark this season. He is confident, and fantasy owners should feel confident taking him off the board with a high first-round pick on draft day.
July 31, 2008
The Star Tribune reports that Adrian Peterson has put on a show in the first week of training camp and reported in better shape than anyone on the team.

Our View:Not a big surprise here, but this bit of news re-enforces a lot of pundits that call All-Day the sound number two overall selection (behind LaDanian Tomlinson) in fantasy drafts. The biggest concern with Peterson will be his health, so be sure to handcuff him with his backup Chester Taylor, who had seven touchdowns last season, in later rounds of the draft.
July 26, 2008
Reports out of Minnesota claim the efforts in training camp are aimed at improving the patience of star rusher Adrian Peterson , according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Our View:The team notes Peterson was too anxious to make big plays and failed to adjust to the evolved defenses teams started to throw his way upon realizing his true potential. As such, the team is working with Peterson to improve his vision, to allow those offensive line blocks progress in front of him, and to seek small-yet-beneficial gains rather than constantly seeking the highlight-reel burst. Imagine if the lessons take hold fantasy owners, avoiding the dreaded Barry Sanders syndrome (three two-yard losses followed by the 15-yard gain) to find positive yards with each carry of the football. We already know the kid is as talented as any player on the field, and now the Vikes are looking to improve his overall game.
May 28, 2008
Running back Adrian Peterson had only three kickoff returns in his final six games last season, but special-teams coordinator Paul Ferraro said he remains an option, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "Is he going to be the primary returner? Probably not," Ferraro said. "But he's going to be an option based on what's going on in the game and where we're at, and Adrian's into it, so it's not something we're forcing down his throat."

Our View:The Vikings have Maurice Hicks, Bobby Wade and Aundrae Allison, who can all return kicks, so we expect Peterson to be utilized only in spot duty, in order to keep him healthy for his primary job as a runner.
April 11, 2008
Buccaneers' coach Jon Gruden has been heard praising Vikings' second year pro Adrian Peterson, according to the Detroit Free Press. Gruden commented, "I've never seen a guy play like Adrian Peterson as long as I've been studying film. Adrian Peterson is a superstar." Gruden is correct as Peterson racked up 1609 total yards as a rookie, in only 14 games played. He should be one of the first fantasy players drafted in 2008.
February 10, 2008
Adrian Peterson told Mike McAllister of ESPN leading up to the Pro Bowl that he believes he'll produce a 2,000-yard season. In fact, he thinks he'll do it in 2008. "Oh, yeah, I set my bar high," he said this week "That's definitely where I'd like to start." A sprained knee suffered by Peterson derailed the rookie after his 296-yard performance against the Chargers in Week 10. He missed the next two games, and even though he came back to rush for 116 yards in a rout of Detroit, he never really gained that burst, managing just 144 yards in the final four games of the season. "I wasn't fully healthy," he acknowledged. "But I don't want to make excuses." Peterson will face many obstacles next year. The lack of a quality passing game and the dreaded sophomore jinx. He will be overvalued by fantasy owners leaving the draft board as one of the first four-picks in most formats.
February 10, 2008
The NFC was aided by Offensive Rookie of the Year Adrian Peterson, whose 129 yards rushing was the first performance of more than 100 yards since Marshall Faulk had 180 in 1995. The Minnesota running back scored twice as the NFC rallied from a 24-7 deficit, earning himself MVP honors. Faulk is the only other rookie to be voted MVP of the Pro Bowl.
January 2, 2008
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson earned 46 and a half of the possible 50 votes on his way to the Associated Press’ Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Peterson led the NFC with 1,341 yards and was second in the conference with 13 touchdowns in only 14 games. Cleveland tackle Joe Thomas received the other three and a half votes.
