Laurence Maroney intends to stick around Foxborough and participate in the club's off-season conditioning program in his bid to bounce back from a shoulder injury that limited him to a mere three games and 28 carries for 93 yards in 2008, according to the Boston Globe. He said, "This is my year. Mark my words."

Our View:2009 will be his fourth pro season, and needs to make an impact as he failed to live up to high expecations so far.
October 20, 2008
The Patriots have placed running back Laurence Maroney on injured reserve due to a shoulder ailment, the Boston Globe reports.

Our View:Wow. Maroney has been missing time to deal with this ailment, but we didn't get the notion it was a season-ending type of injury. We hope the Patriots will reveal more in the near future. Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk, and LaMont Jordan now have more secure fantasy values.
October 17, 2008
Laurence Maroney (shoulder) did not practice on Friday and he is listed as doubtful in the team's injury report, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Sammy Morris will have the majority of the carries on Sunday and Kevin Faulk will be used as a third-down back. Maroney has managed just 28 carries this season and has been a big disappointment for his owners.
October 15, 2008
Laurence Maroney was absent from the start of Wednesday's practice, according to the Boston Globe. He missed Week 6 due to his shoulder ailment.

Our View:His status for Monday's game against Denver remains in question. Maroney is only averaging 3.3 yards over 28 carries, and is yet to score a touchdown.
October 12, 2008
Running back Laurence Maroney (shoulder) is inactive for the Week 6 game against the Chargers.

Our View:LaMont Jordan is also out, which means Sammy Morris should see a heavy workload. Kevin Faulk could also see a lot of action. The Patriots haven't been very open about Maroney's shoulder injury, but he is clearly hurting more than we know.
October 12, 2008
Laurence Maroney, questionable with a shoulder issue on Sunday, commented to the Boston Herald about is recent effort by saying, "I have my issues. There are reasons. I’d rather not speak about them. But there are reasons.”

Our View:No matter the issue, Maroney has been one of the biggest busts of the fantasy season.
October 10, 2008
Laurence Maroney is questionable for Week 6 due to his shoulder ailment, according to the Boston Globe. He had limited participation in Friday's practice.

Our View:He looks to be a game-time decision against San Diego. He is not a recommended fantasy option if he plays, especially since he is only averaging 3.3 yards per carry this season.
October 10, 2008
Patriots running back Laurence Maroney needs to show more enthusiasm and willingness to take on tacklers, as the team is wavering in their support of him, according to Pro Football Weekly. If he does not improve, it may mean more carries for Kevin Faulk, Sammy Morris and LaMont Jordan, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:Recently, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick gave Maroney a vote of confidence, saying they were in full support of the young running back. But he hasn't stayed healthy, and even when he has, his performances have been poor. Maroney has just 93 yards on 28 carries and no touchdowns this season, much to the chagrin of fantasy owners waiting patiently for a breakout year.
October 9, 2008
Running back Laurence Maroney was limited in practice on Thursday, according to the Boston Globe. He continues to deal with a shoulder ailment.

Our View:Maroney has been a fantasy disappointment so far this season and he was on the field for just 17 plays on Sunday. Sammy Morris and Kevin Faulk have seen as many touches as Maroney has this season.
October 6, 2008
Even though Laurence Maroney appeared in just 17 plays on Sunday HC Bill Belichick is apparently satisfied with what Maroney has been providing, according to the Boston Globe. “Yeah, I think Laurence has done a good job for us," he said. "I think he’s a good back. He’s played well and I think he’ll continue to play well.”

Our View:Perhaps we are looking at two different players because what we see is a back who has been limited to just 28 carries and 93 yards this season despite the fact that he has dealt with a few injuries. At this point he is nothing more than a flex option, and apparently a poor one at that.
October 5, 2008
Laurence Maroney rushed for only 26 yards on 10 carries and only was on the field for 17 snaps, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:In three games this year Maroney has only 28 rushing attempts for 93 yards. He has been dealing with a a couple of injuries but if you have not already benched Maroney, you should definately take a look at his production.
September 29, 2008
Laurence Maroney is practicing today following the Patriots' bye, according to the Boston Globe. Maroney had been dealing with a shoulder ailment.

Our View:Maroney should start Sunday, and will be well-rested in a favorable match-up against the 49ers.
September 24, 2008
Laurence Maroney is practicing in full pads today, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Maroney missed Week 3 with a shoulder injury, but looks like he will be ready to return to action in Week 5 at San Francisco following this weekend's bye.
September 21, 2008
Week 3 inactives: QB Matt Gutierrez (3rd), WR Kelley Washington, RB Kyle Eckel, RB Laurence Maroney, LB Eric Alexander, C Dan Connolly, OT Wesley Britt, and LB Shawn Crable.

Our View:The Maroney news came out earlier. The big note here is that LaMont Jordan is active, which means Sammy Morris may not have a clear path to a huge day. Still, Morris is the best play in this committee backfield.
September 21, 2008
Running back Laurence Maroney (shoulder) is inactive for Week 3, NFL.com reports.

Our View:Sammy Morris is expected to start, and he could see a big share of the load this week. He becomes a pretty decent fantasy start against the lowly Dolphins.
September 19, 2008
Laurence Maroney returned to practice Friday after missing time due to his shoulder injury, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:The two practices he missed were in full pads, and today's practice was in shells (light shoulder pads) and shorts. His status for Week 3 against Miami remains in question.
September 18, 2008
Laurence Maroney remained out of practice Thursday while dealing with his shoulder injury, according to the Boston Globe. LaMont Jordan sat out as well with his foot ailment.

Our View:His status for Week 3 does not look promising. If Maroney and Jordan cannot go against Miami, then Kevin Faulk and Sammy Morris would likely share the workload on the ground.
September 17, 2008
Laurence Maroney was not present for the media-portion of Wednesday's practice, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Maroney injured his shoulder in Sunday's win over the Jets, and he missed more than two quarters of action before returning for one play in the fourth quarter. His status for Week 3 remains in question.
September 14, 2008
Laurence Maroney exited the game against New York due to a shoulder injury.

Our View:Maroney had only seven carries for 17 yards before departing the game. He is questionable to return and is not on the field for the start of the second half of the contest.
September 7, 2008
If the first half is any indication, the Patriots backfield is going to be a nightmare for fantasy leagues. The offense threw the ball every time on the first drive, Laurence Maroney handled the second drive, Sammy Morris came in for the third drive, and LaMont Jordan came on for the fourth drive. Oh, and Heath Evans also had a carry.

Our View:Ugh. We didn't even mention Kevin Faulk, who will no doubt catch his share of passes this year. Bill Belichick may go overboard in his efforts to keep Maroney's legs healthy for December and the postseason.
August 22, 2008
Laurence Maroney only ran the ball five times, and he picked up just 18 yards as the Patriots lost to Philadelphia, 27-17.

Our View:New England ran the ball just 20 times all evening, compared to 34 passes, so the running game had little chance to get going. Maroney remains a solid second option for fantasy teams.
