The Patriots were mum on the status of Laurence Maroney on Monday, and conflicting reports indicated he may or may not have suffered an injury in the win over the Bills. The Boston Globe continues to report that Maroney suffered a foot injury that caused him to miss the second half, but the Boston Herald quoted Maroney as responding "Not that I know of," when asked if he had suffered an injury. The Herald speculates that Maroney was pulled from the game after failing to identify a couple of different cut-back opportunities, while the Globe is assuming L-Mo was injured. We'll learn more about this situation on Wednesday when the first injury report comes out.

Laurence Maroney exited Sunday night's game in the second quarter with a foot injury, according to the Boston Globe. He didn't return, though it wasn't clear how much that decision was based on the injury or the fact the Pats were already blowing out the Bills. Kevin Faulk also left the game early, so Heath Evans and Kyle Eckel took carries.

Laurence Maroney has yet to score a touchdown this season, and he doesn't really care. "Have you seen the victories we have?" Maroney told the Boston Globe. "I'm happy even though I haven't reached the end zone. Everybody wants to reach the end zone. I feel like my time is coming sooner than later. As long as we keep winning, I don't care if I never make it to the end zone." Maroney scored seven times in a backup role last year and has been a huge disappointment this year. With Tom Brady and the passing game doing all of the Patriots scoring, it's tough to envision a huge turnaround for L-Mo.

Laurence Maroney returned from his groin injury on Sunday but did little in fantasy terms. Maroney, Kevin Faulk and Kyle Eckel each had six carries, and Heath Evans carried the ball four times. Maroney led them all with 31 yards. The Pats continued to air the ball out, as Tom Brady threw six touchdown passes, so they didn't need to ask Maroney to do much in his first game in a month. He should be more involved next week against the Redskins.

Running back Laurence Maroney says that he will not jeopardize his health to return to the lineup. Maroney missed the last three games due to a groin injury, and since backup Sammy Morris is most likely out with a chest injury this week, the Patriots are very thin at running back. “Just because another person went down doesn’t mean that you have to speed your (rehab) up and then hurt yourself more.”
October 19, 2007
Laurence Maroney spoke to the media at length on Thursday, explaining that he hopes to play on Sunday and that he hopes to avoid being labeled injury-prone. "Coming off an injury as it is, coming into another one, it definitely is frustrating," he told the Boston Globe. "It's, 'Man, I just can't get rid of these things.' I missed two games in college due to an ankle sprain, but those were the only games I missed in my football career. I come up [to the NFL], and it seems like I just can't get rid of these things." Maroney said his status for Week 7 is up to the coaches, and that he wouldn't rush his return just because backup Sammy Morris is also injured.
October 18, 2007
Laurence Maroney was once again limited in practice on Wednesday, but the Boston Globe speculates that he's nearing a return to action. That said, the Globe also reports that the Patriots are expected to give Kevin Faulk a lot of work wit the first team this week in practice, with Heath Evans and Kyle Eckel also playing a more prominent role.
October 14, 2007
Laurence Maroney will not play Sunday in Dallas, a source has told the Boston Herald. Maroney made the trip with the team, but will miss a third straight game with a groin injury. He had been considered a game-time decision. In any event, that green-lights Sammy Morris as a strong fantasy play for another week.
October 12, 2007
Laurence Maroney may, in fact, play again. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addressed Maroney's status for the first time in three weeks during a Friday morning press conference. "He's making progress, he's doing some things on the field," Belichick told the Boston Globe. "It will probably be a game time decision. He's definitely getting closer." Maroney has missed two straight games with an injured groin.

We'll have to wait and see whether he's listed as active about an hour before the game starts this evening.

Laurence Maroney is attempting to change his running style to make himself a more effective runner. According to the Boston Globe, Maroney has been working on leaning forward more and getting low to avoid taking big hits. "[Body lean] is a major part of being a running back, so I'm trying to do it," Maroney said. "Sometimes I feel like I can't run as hard leaning forward as I can standing upright, so I'm trying to learn to run just as hard leaning as I am upright."

It's still not clear if Laurence Maroney will play in Friday's exhibition game, but the second-year back believes he needs some game reps before the regular season. "[Game reps] wouldn't hurt. I need 'em. I ain't gonna lie. I need 'em," Maroney told the Boston Globe. "As much as they allow me to play. I ain't played ina while, so as much as they allow me to play, I want to play. I'm ready to see what I've learned and what I can do differently from last year."

For the first time in training camp, Laurence Maroney shed a little light on the status of his surgically-repaired shoulder. "The body is feeling good," he told the Boston Globe. "I've been doing a bit more contact and it's just feeling real good. Hopefully - you ask Bill [Belichick] because I don't know when - I'll be out of the red [no-contact practice jersey] soon." Maroney added that he hopes to get into at least one exhibition game before the regular season opener, but that he'd be ready to go even if he doesn't play a down in the preseason.

July 2, 2007
Without revealing anything even remotely close to concrete, Bill Belichick addressed Laurence Maroney's recovery from shoulder surgery on Monday. When asked by radio hosts on Sports Radio WEEI about Maroney's status for training camp, he is quoted by the Boston Globe as replying, "We'll have to see how that comes along. I'm sure he'll be close. He's doing well. He's worked extremely hard this offseason. I'm sure he'll be ready to go. What the exact time will be, we'll wait and see how that comes along. But I’m sure he'll be ready to go." Thanks, Bill. That should clear everything up.
