Rob Bironas has signed a one-year tender with the Titans worth $1.47 million, according to the Tennessean.

Our View:Bironas made the Pro Bowl last season, as he made 35-of-39 field goal tries. He hit 4-of-5 attempts from 50+ yards.

The Titans and the agent for Rob Bironas have been in discussions about a long-term contract for the Pro Bowler kicker, according to the Nashville Tennessean. Bironas is one of the team's restricted free agents, which means the Titans could sign him to a tender for one more year.

Rob Bironas picked a good season to head into restricted free agency, having led the league with 35 field goals and earned a trip to the Pro Bowl. “On a normal kicker I think you probably just give him a one-year tender and then see what happens,” Bironas’ agent told the Tennessean. “But when you are talking about a guy who has made as many game-winning kicks as Rob has and is going to the Pro Bowl, I guess that would be a pretty dangerous position for the team, because anything can happen. When a team’s season is over and you look position-by-position and say who do we want to bring back and who do we want to lock up for long term, maybe a lot of times they are not looking at the kicker, but in the situation with the Tennessee Titans, Rob has to be one of their top priorities.”

Rob Bironas doesn’t have the place-kicking job sewn up just yet. Rookie John Vaughn has looked solid so far in camp. "Very impressed with what John's been able to do with his leg strength and his accuracy," coach Jeff Fisher told the AP. "We haven't had this as long as I can remember. We've had two guys who can consistently put the ball through the uprights from way out. It's going to be interesting to see how it unfolds."

Our View:Not that fantasy owners were counting on Bironas to be a top-10 kicker this season, but all that is coach-speak for, “Bironas has the job, but I just don’t want him to get too comfortable.” Rob would have to be struck with injury or look completely awful to not win the job.

Rob Bironas missed practice on Thursday because of the same groin problem that bothered him late last month. He is listed as questionable for Sunday's game with the Eagles.
