Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt has declared Matt Leinart as his starting quarterback, according to the Arizona Republic. "Matt's the starter," Whisenhunt said. "That's the way it's going to be."

Our View:This latest quote is a bit strange, considering Whisenhunt said just a week ago that his team would go out and get a quarterback to be in an open competition with Leinart, and Arizona signed Derek Anderson just yesterday. We'd expect Leinart to be the favorite for the job, though he'll still have to earn it by outplaying Anderson in training camp.

According to the National Football Post, "Arizona is far from convinced that Matt Leinart is its short or long-term answer at quarterback." The website also says that Leinart's "work ethic and commitment continue to be questioned."

Our View:Simply stunning. You would think that after having to endure the embarrassment and supposed humbling he went through a few seasons ago when a man in his late thirties wrested Arizona's starting gig away from him that he would have learned his lesson. Apparently not. Until proven otherwise, Leinart is one of those athletes that simply doesn't "get it."

The Cardinals may pursue a veteran quarterback this offseason that would potentially push Matt Leinart for the team's starting gig, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View:Leinart is currently Arizona's only quarterback under contract. While they may re-sign Brian St. Pierre, they'd still have to add one more guy, either through the draft or free agency. Chad Pennington and Marc Bulger jump out as potential names that could be in the mix.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt has faith in quarterback Matt Leinart, according to ESPN. Whisenhunt said, "What I think back to is the second half in the preseason when he threw for 300 yards against the Packers. Matt is not a rookie. He has been in this offense for three years."

Our View:As of now, the left-handed Leinart is the No. 1 quarterback on the Cardinals' roster. He will have a strong supporting cast to help him succeed, led by elite receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

Following Kurt Warner's decision to retire, Matt Leinart will serve as the Cardinals' new starting quarterback.

Our View:Arizona is not expected to pursue any of the big names that could potentially be acquired via trade, such as Donovan McNabb, and while they may well upgrade their backup spot either through the draft of free agency, Leinart is fully expected to be the No. 1 guy entering next season. He'll be a huge wild card heading into fantasy drafts next season, as he's failed to show much of anything in limited action through four seasons in the NFL, though he'll have an excellent set of weapons around him, regardless of whether or not Anquan Boldin sticks with the team.

If future Hall-of-Famer Kurt Warner indeed announces his retirement on Friday, Matt Leinart will be Arizona's starting quarterback in 2010, according to the Cardinals official website.

Our View:The club will not pursue Donovan McNabb or use their first-round draft pick on a quarterback. Leinart has yet to prove anything in his limited NFL duty, and oftentimes appears to be lost when on the field. His insertion into the starting lineup could hurt the fantasy value of all those around him. Stay tuned.

If Kurt Warner does indeed decide to retire, and Matt Leinart becomes Arizona's starting quarterback, the Cardinals are likely to become a run-first team in 2010, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View:Leinart's receivers, big names like Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, reportedly do not trust in him because of his inaccuracy, which leads to wideouts taking big hits. If Warner hangs it up, Beanie Wells will become the focal point in the desert, while Leinart will be a Mark Sanchez type game manager. That's not good news for one of the most gifted players of this generation, Fitzgerald. Stay tuned.

Matt Leinart was just 13-of-21 for 96 yards, no scores and two picks in Sunday's blowout loss to the Packers.

Our View:Leinart saw the most time of any of the three Cardinal QBs in the game, but did not impress anyone. Kurt Warner was 4-of-6 for 31 yards and Brian St. Pierre was 2-of-4 for 12 yards, but managed to pass the only TD of the game. Expect Warner to take over the lead role once the postseason kicks off.
