Marion Barber rumbled for 75 yards on 13 carries and scored a touchdown as Dallas beat the Texans 23-22 in preseason action.

Our View:Barber should get most of next week's game off and head into Week 1 of the season healthy and ready to put the ball in the end zone for fantasy owners.

Cowboys' offensive coordinator Jason Garrett considers Marion Barber an every-down back, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View:Garrett also calls rookie Felix Jones a special complementary back. Barber should be a top-10 fantasy back this season, and should see at least 250 carries over a full 16-game slate.

Will he be an every-down back? Earlier this offseason reporters put that question to Dallas coach Wade Phillips concerning running back Marion Barber , and the answer was "yes." Today's report out of Dallas indicates that is true, though he may not be carrying the ball on each of those downs. The Cowboys are experimenting with using both Barber and rookie Felix Jones in the same backfield — one formation that has Barber as a fullback and Jones lined up behind him, and another where Barber is in a one-back formation and Jones flexes out, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:The thought of using Barber as a fullback should sicken most fantasy owners, especially considering the price paid to add him to the roster in most fantasy leagues. However, you can bet Jones is going to get playing time and thus the news should not be that shocking. More than anything, the threat of additional opportunity for injury in serving as a lead blocker might be cause for concern. Meanwhile, the news of using Jones as a receiver is refreshing and could raise the rook's fantasy value.

The Dallas Morning News reports that Marion Barber will be an every down back despite the Cowboys using their first round pick on RB Felix Jones.

Our View:Felix Jones may keep Barber from getting 300 carries, but he should get close, barring injury. Barber should be considered a top-10 running back both for his ability at the goal line and his role in one of the league's best offenses.

Marion Barber and the Cowboys have agreed to terms on a new seven-year, $45 million deal, with $16 million guaranteed, as reported by agent Drew Rosenhaus, according to the Dallas Morning News. Barber will earn $21 million over first three years of the deal. Rosenhaus said, "I gotta credit the Cowboys, they do a great job of getting players signed. Representing Marion's been a pleasure, on and off the field, he's a champ."

Our View:Barber earned his lucrative new deal, as he rushed for 975 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2007, and added another 282 yards and two scores on 44 receptions.

Dallas RB Marion Barber has decided to skip the Cowboys' off-season workouts as his agent and the team continue to discuss long-term contract options, according to the Marion Barber .

Our View:Barber has refused to sign the team's one-year, $2.562 million tender and is now using the typical forms of persuasion agent Drew Rosenhaus would suggest. Organized team activities begin next week, and you can bet Barber won't be showing up for those if this is not worked out by then as well.

The Dallas Cowboys are in the beginning stages of discussions with agent Drew Rosenhaus regarding running back Marion Barber's future, according to the Dallas Morning News. The Cowboys feel the six-year, $34.5 million deal Michael Turner signed in Atlanta is in the general vicinity of what they want to pay Barber, while Rosenhaus is seeking between $40-60 million for his client.

Our View:These negotiations could get interesting, as the organization provided themselves with some leverage with the recent additions of rookie running backs Felix Jones and Tashard Choice.

It is unlikely that the Dallas Cowboys will have a contract extension in place with running back Marion Barber prior to the NFL draft, according to the Dallas Morning News. "That's not in any way to diminish how important our talks with Barber are. Let me be real clear about that," owner Jerry Jones said. "It's just that, first of all, nothing is going to happen between today and the draft anyway. I'm going to assume, just as we have both in the long term and the short term, that we'll get something worked out with Marion." Jones also made sure to note that he'd be fine without getting a high-round back, and having to put a heavier load on Barber.

Our View:The two sides have a wide gap to close in the negotiations. The Cowboys have offered a deal in the $30 million range, while Barber wants between $40-60 million. Early in the season it sounded like Jones was infatuated with Darren McFadden, and might possibly move up in the draft to select him. However, those rumblings have died down, thus we expect Barber to receive an increased workload in 2008.

Marion Barber is reportedly not close to signing a new deal with the Cowboys, according to the Dallas News. The team offered him a new contract for $30 million, but he wants a deal for between $40-60 million. Coach Wade Phillips has already named him the starter for 2008.

Our View:Hopefully he will come to terms with Dallas before training camp.

The Dallas Cowboys’ two biggest priorities between now and the draft appear to be getting running back Marion Barber and defensive end Chris Canty, both restricted free agents, signed to long-term contracts, according to Pro Football Weekly. The team would love to get it done and has had several discussions with both parties, but nothing is imminent.
February 28, 2008
The Dallas Cowboys have tendered running back Marion Barber at the highest level, according to the Dallas Morning News. Barber has received a one-year offer worth $2.562 million, and the Cowboys retain matching rights on any offer sheet presented to Barber. If the Cowboys were to decline matching an offer sheet, they'd receive first and third-round picks in return.

The Dallas Cowboys have until Feb. 28 to tender a contract offer to restricted free agent RB Marion Barber, according to the Star-Telegram. The tender is a given, but the organization continues to work on a long-term contract for Barber, who has emerged as one of the best running backs in the league. The real intrigue for Barber owners, which has them biting their fingernails, is owner Jerry Jones’ flirtations with moving up in the draft to select RB Darrin McFadden.

According to a reports at the Star-Telegram, the Cowboys will talk with new starting RB Marion Barber and his agent this week at the NFL Combine. Barber is a restricted free agent that is expected to be signed long-term and replace starter Julius Jones who will not be resigned by the team. Expect Barber's 250 touches in 2007 to grow to 350 in 2008 barring the team signing a free agent tailback or drafting one in the upcoming NFL Amateur selection process.
February 10, 2008
Marion Barber , Dallas' new starting running back for 2008, was overshadowed by Vikings rookie Adrian Peterson in Sunday's Pro Bowl victory. Barber, who is forecast to be a fringe first-round selection in next year's fantasy drafts, carried the ball six times for 37 yards as the NFC defeated the AFC 42-30.
February 7, 2008
Marion Barber could be the only position player in NFL history to make the Pro Bowl without starting a regular-season game, according to the Cowboys' team website. Despite playing behind starter Julius Jones, Barber was the the primary tailback just missing a 1,000-yard season, finishing with a career-best 975 yards. He had 10 rushing touchdowns and added two more receiving scores as well. Barber is a restricted free agent and his name has been tossed around in potential trade talks, although owner Jerry Jones has said publicly he has no intentions of trading next year's starter. With Jones expected to leave via free agency this offseason, Barber's 250 touches this year will likely increase to 350 during the 2008 season.
