Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin doesn't want to have four quarterbacks on the roster, and it doesn't take much of an imagination to find the odd-man out: Andrew Walter. "I have great confidence in all our quarterbacks, especially the first two in Josh (McCown) and Daunte (Culpepper)," head coach Lane Kiffin tells the Oakland Tribune. "As I said before, I feel both of them can put us in a situation to win." Rookie JaMarcus Russell signed a contract earlier this week but does not need to be added to the 53-man roster until September 24.

Andrew Walter will start against the 49ers in Saturday's preseason clash. He will be followed by Daunte Culpepper and Josh McCown, the Sacramento Bee reports.

Andrew Walter underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday and will be sidelined for four to six weeks. He is expected back by training camp, but his absence the last few days of mini-camp will mean more snaps for JaMarcus Russell and Josh McCown, players he is battling for the starting position, according to the Mercury News. "What is good for him is he had a head start," coach Lane Kiffin said. "He was ahead of the other two guys because he was (there) first. So I guess maybe it evens it out that way."

Andrew Walter and Aaron Brooks split reps at Thursday's practice and Art Shell plans to go with his "gut feeling" for Sunday's game at Kansas City, according to the Oakland Tribune. Despite starting just seven of nine games this year, Walter has been sacked a league-high 40 times. Shell hinted that Brooks' experience could play into the decision, as the game is set for one of the loudest and most intimidating opposing stadiums in the league.
