Brandon Jacobs has been thought of as the Giants lead back heading into the season, and while that might still be the case, it also appears that he is in danger of losing touches, according to the Giants Official Website. When asked about how the team's runners will be treated this season, here is what OC Kevin Gilbride said. "...depending on how certain defenses are playing us, which guy's playing better that day, in other words, kind of who has the hot hand, who is playing the best, that is the guy that we would certainly feature that day."

Our View:Ahmad Bradshaw and Derrick Ward are the two backs who will obviously benefit if the team follows through with this plan. Jacobs is still the top target on draft, and if he is healthy there is no reason to think that he won't be able to produce solid RB2 numbers.

Right now it looks like Brandon Jacobs will not be getting a contract extension before training camp opens on July 24. Although there is no deadline in place, both sides are still working to bridge the gap between what Jacobs wants and what the Giants are willing to pay, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:The Giants don't doubt Jacobs' ability to produce, but the running back's injury concerns are likely what is holding the club back from giving him a big payday.

Brandon Jacobs is nearing a resolution to his contract negotiations with the Giants and is on the cusp of signing a reported four year deal, according to the Bergen Record.

Our View:Jacobs went for over 1,000-yards last year (1.009) despite the fact that he was limited to 11 games because of injury. He has proven to be a bull in his early career, and he figures to provide solid RB2 numbers this year if he can stay on the field.

Running back Brandon Jacobs is entering the final year of his contract and looking for a big payday. The New York Giants have a differing view on the possible compensation package, but the Newark Star-Ledger is speculating that the recent probation violation of Ahmad Bradshaw could possibly jump-start the negotiations.

Our View:The Giants were previously utilizing Bradshaw as leverage in the contract negotiations, but the fact that he is currently sitting in jail on a probation violation, places some doubt on that insurance policy. While the Giants would like to see Jacobs make it through a full season healthy, he is clearly the best back on the roster. Stay tuned.

Brandon Jacobs suffered through a season full of nagging injuries. The big back missed five games and part of a sixth because of a variety of injuries. If the Giants want to repeat as Super Bowl champs, Jacobs must stay healthy.

Our View:In his first year as a starter Jacobs gained 1,009 yards with a 5.0 yards per carry average. If he stays healthy he will challenge 1300-1400 yards with a number of receptions that will bolster his all-purpose status.
