Frank Gore played through a neck injury Sunday and had himself quite a day, rushing for 106 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries in the 35-16 win over St. Louis.

Our View:The Niners didn't overwork Gore in the blowout, as DeShaun Foster carried the ball 10 times.
November 16, 2008
Running back Frank Gore (neck) is active and will start in the Week 11 game against the Rams.

Our View:Fantasy owners should feel free to use Gore against one of the league's worst run defenses.
November 13, 2008
In yet another update to the concussion story of Frank Gore, it now appears almost certain that he will suit up for the Niners when they face the Rams in Week 11, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "I'll be all right," said Gore. "I think I jammed it (his neck). I was out of it for a while. I'll be fine."

Our View:Apparently Gore did not have a concussion, it was merely a neck injury, and though he has missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday he will return to practice on Friday and be ready to take on St. Louis this weekend.
November 13, 2008
Contradicting the widely circulated news that he suffered a concussion in Week 10, Niners HC Mike Singletary said that Frank Gore did not suffer such an injury and that he is instead suffering from neck strain, according to the Sacramento Bee. "Frank Gore is a football player. He does not know what a concussion is," Singletary said. "It may feel like a concussion. I talked to (trainer Jeff Ferguson) who is one of the finest trainers in the country."

Our View:Singletary went on to state that he fully anticipates that Gore will play in Week 11, that is until he is told otherwise. At the very least, the lack of a concussion would appear to give Gore a better chance to suit up to face the Rams.
November 13, 2008
49ers running back Frank Gore suffered a concussion last week, and he is still feeling the effects of it, according to the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat.

Our View:Gore did not practice Wednesday and he will not practice Thursday, and his availability for Sunday's game against the Rams is suddenly in question. DeShaun Foster is Gore's backup and would likely get the bulk of the carries in his absence.
November 10, 2008
Frank Gore had 24 carries for 98 yards on Monday Night Football as the 49ers fell in the final seconds 24-29 to Arizona. Not only did Gore come up two yards shy of the 100-yard mark, but he also stumbled to the ground two yards shy of the end zone with just four seconds remaining in the game. He finished with no touchdowns.

Our View:Gore left the game late with an undisclosed injury but he did return in order to break his fantasy owners hearts (as well as many of the 49ers fans) by coming up just short of the goal line.
November 2, 2008
Matthew Barrows of the Sacramento Bee does not believe Mike Martz will be back as the 49ers' offensive coordinator in 2009.

Our View:The reasoning is that Martz's style clashes with that of acting head coach Mike Singletary. Even if Singletary is not back next season, the new coach would most likely want his own coordinator.
October 26, 2008
The 49ers have denied a rumor originally reported by the NFL Network's Adam Schefter that the team would look into hiring U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as team president, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Our View:This news has no fantasy relevance whatsoever, but it still could be interesting to watch in the future.
October 26, 2008
It was just another day at the office for Frank Gore, who had 19 carries for 94 yards and also had seven catches for 65 yards on Sunday.

Our View:Gore couldn't find the end zone, but he still had a big game for fantasy owners. The 49ers visit Arizona next week, an opponent that allowed 151 yards to Gore in Week 1.
October 20, 2008
According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, the 49ers have fired head coach Mike Nolan on Monday afternoon. Mike Singletary will become the new head coach. Nolan posted an 18-37 record over three-plus seasons.

Our View:Why wait until after Week 8? We don't imagine this will affect fantasy teams much, as Mike Martz will likely continue to call the shots on offense.
October 20, 2008
A source has informed ESPN.com that the 49ers plan to fire head coach Mike Nolan after their Week 8 game against the Seahawks. The 49ers are 2-5 and have a bye in Week 9.

Our View:Nice. We're sure this leaked rumor will make it easy for the 49ers and Nolan to get ready for the Seahawks. Mike Martz and Mike Singletary seem like the best internal candidates to possibly replace Nolan.
October 19, 2008
Frank Gore had an awful day running the ball, gaining just 11 yards on 11 carries. Thankfully, he also caught three passes for 50 yards.

Our View:This was one of the uglier performances you'll see from Gore, whose previous season-low was 54 yards.
October 12, 2008
Running back Frank Gore rushed 19 times for 101 yards and a touchdown in the Week 6 loss to the Eagles. He also caught three passes for 16 yards.

Our View:That's what fantasy owners expect out of Gore, who has now scored in five of the six contests. He is a stud. Meanwhile, the once-stout Eagles run defense has looked a lot weaker the last two Sundays.
September 25, 2008
49ers running back Frank Gore returned to practice on Thursday after receiving the day off on Wednesday, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Our View:Gore has been held out of Wednesday practices the past two weeks, even though he is not injured. He has 73 touches in three games this season, and the team is simply keeping his legs fresh.
September 24, 2008
By coaches decision, Frank Gore was held out of Wednesday's practice, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View:He was given a day off last Wednesday as well, and he is not nursing an ailment. Gore has racked up 412 total yards and three scores over the first three weeks of the season, and looks to have another solid outing this weekend at New Orleans.
September 21, 2008
Frank Gore rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown against the hapless Detroit Lions on Sunday. He rounded out the effort with four catches for 32 yards.

Our View:He was limited some in practice last week due to general soreness but there are few things like the Lions' defense to get a skilled-position player feeling good again. Gore has a touchdown in each of his first three games and also has combined yardage of over 100 in each.
September 19, 2008
Frank Gore returned to practice Thursday after being held out Wednesday due to general sorenesss, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View:Gore is the 49ers' best offensive player and coordinator Mike Martz should get the ball into his hands early and often in a revenge game against Detroit, who gave up on him prior to being fired. Gore has bruised his way to 250 total yards and two scores over the first two weeks of the season.
September 17, 2008
The Press Democrat reports that the 49ers gave Frank Gore the day off on Wednesday. Gore was walking very gingerly Monday after the game. DeShaun Foster filled in as the 49ers' No. 1 back during practice.

Our View:The nature of the limp is still unknown, but he was not taken out of the game against Seattle and all signs point to it being the usual pounding a running back takes.
September 16, 2008
49ers running back Frank Gore was limping on Monday at the team's facility, but says he is good to go for Week 3, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Our View:The nature of the limp was unknown, but he was not taken out of the game against Seattle and all signs point to it being the usual pounding a running back takes.
September 5, 2008
The 49ers will battle the Cardinals in Week 1 and coach Ken Whisenhunt is wary of opposing rusher Frank Gore, according to the Arizona Republic. Gore broke loose for 116 rushing yards and 98 receiving yards in Week 12 of the 2007 campaign and Whisenhunt said, "He kind of ripped us up pretty good. He is an outstanding football player. The more I see him, the more I understand what a dynamic player he is. He is really somebody you'd better account for, or he's going to really hurt you, whether it's catching the ball out of the backfield or even on the run game."

Our View:Frank Gore is a must-start for Week 1, and opposing fantasy teams should be just as wary as Whisenhunt.
September 1, 2008
Frank Gore is excited about the new season, and working in Mike Martz's offense, according to the SF Chronicle. Gore said, "I love it, man. I've got a great feeling about it." He no longer feels opposing defenses will stack the box to target him and he added, "You can't do that now. When we played Chicago (in preseason), you saw guys you never heard of getting open and making good plays. Our second group was going against their best defense and doing what they wanted to to them."

Our View:Gore is an excellent receiver out of the backfield, and has drawn comparisons to Marshall Faulk, who thrived and put up great numbers while under the direction of Martz in St. Louis. Gore looks to be headed for a career-year in 2008.
August 21, 2008
Frank Gore gained 51 yards on eight rushing attempts and added two catches for 19 yards against the Bears Thursday night.

Our View:Gore made the most of his limited work Thursday night. Even with Mike Martz in town, Gore will be the work-horse of the offense all year.
August 6, 2008
Frank Gore has trimmed 10 pounds off his frame in a bid to get into better shape, according to the SF Chronicle. He currently weighs 214 pounds, and Marshall Faulk (who had great success in Mike Martz's offense) advised him to get down to 212. He also told Gore to run at practice every day, which he is doing.

Our View:Gore may not generate fantasy MVP-like numbers, as Faulk did while under Martz, but he could rank in the top-5.
July 30, 2008
While reports have funneled from San Francisco of the tremendous potential this team now holds under the guidance of new offensive coordinator Mike Martz, there are some who are wondering if the past is any indication that expectations should be tempered, according to ESPN.com. More to the point, there are some who wonder if the Niners' top offensive talents, running back Frank Gore and tight end Vernon Davis, will be lost in the shuffle.

Our View:Mike Sando of ESPN, tasked with covering the NFC West, notes Martz has never featured the tight end or running back in his schemes in the past, putting full emphasis on the pass. That would seem to put both Gore and Davis in a bad light, and Sando went as far as to contact Martz and ask him directly. Martz agreed with Sando's observations but feels he can get both weapons involved. He notes Davis is not likely to see a rise in the number of his receptions, but the scheme will enhance his average yards per catch. Meanwhile Martz envisions bigger receiving yards for Gore who will be used as a receiving option more often. We will see. Sando is right in stating the rushers and tight ends have not enjoyed great returns under Martz, and history suggests fantasy owners should proceed with caution.
July 28, 2008
As expected, Frank Gore will be used extensively in the passing game as well as the running attack according to Mike Martz. The Press Democrat reports Martz recently said "We'll use (Gore) everywhere we can in the running game, of course. And then in the passing game, we'll use him every way possible, as a deep threat, a short threat and a crossing threat. Watching him out there, he's really comfortable with himself. We have to be careful not to overload him and take away from what he's there for and what he really does well, which is run the football. But we'll create some scenarios for him, too."

Our View:Gore has been one of the better fantasy backs in the league over the past two years and owners are hoping that a pass-happy OC won't diminish his value. It would seem they will get their wish as Martz indicates his realization that Gore is the most valuable offensive player on his new team.
July 2, 2008
The Niners are reportedly focusing on improving the full capabilities of their running backs, starting with plans to insure rusher Frank Gore gets 25 touches per game, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:Coach Mike Nolan says the team would like to get Gore 20 carries and at least five receptions per game. Based on those assertions, that would equate to 320 carries and 80 receptions for Gore. The receiving work would be a bit disappointing for fantasy owners, but there is great potential in those catches. New offensive coordinator Mike Martz is well known for the love of the pass and insuring Gore is not lost in the shuffle would be a relief, both for the Niners and fantasy owners.
May 5, 2008
Running back Frank Gore is excited about the changes in store for him in offensive coordinator Mike Martz’s new offense, according to Santa Rosa Press Democrat. Gore looks forward to being a bigger part of the passing game, where he will get an opportunity run routes while lining up in the slot.

Our View:From 1999-2002, Marshall Faulk posted four 80+-reception seasons under Martz, so it’s conceivable that Gore could have the best receiving season of his career in 2008.
May 2, 2008
San Francisco offensive coordinator Mike Martz is hopeful he can build an offense around Frank Gore the way he did Marshall Faulk when he was with the St. Louis Rams, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:We keep hearing that Martz wants to make Gore the centerpiece of his offensive scheme, which could mean great things for Gore’s reception numbers. Of course, it’s difficult not to let a little doubt creep in our minds, after watching the Detroit Lions compile the fewest rushing attempts in the league over the past two seasons.
April 2, 2008
Frank Gore has been in contact with Marshall Faulk during the offseason, talking about the new offense in San Francisco, according to 49ers.com. “Marshall told me not to worry about people talking about how he [Martz] throws the ball – that I’ll be featured and that I’ll love this offense,” said Gore. “He offered to come out and help me if I needed anything, but that the main thing for me is to show coach how much I love the game, and to really learn the offense and every position on the field. He said I should study the fullback’s role, because Martz will use that position in the slot and get the ball to him. So, I just have a lot of studying to do.” Martz has already said that Gore would be the centerpiece of the offensive scheme, making him a hot commodity, especially in PPR leagues. Additionally, Gore is fully recovered from the high ankle sprain that hindered him for much of last season.
