Tom Rathman returns to San Francisco, this time as their running backs coach, according to SF Chronicle. He agreed to a multi-year deal.

Our View:Rathman was a star fullback for the 49ers and helped lead the franchise to two Super Bowl victories. He will be replacing Tony Nathan, who was let go after the club finished 27th in rushing this season.

The 49ers have released two more coaches on Wednesday, quarterbacks/assistant head coach Ted Tollner and running backs coach Tony Nathan, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:New head coach Mike Singletary certainly looks to be changing the culture in San Francisco, where the 49ers haven't made the playoffs since 2002. He rallied the club to a 7-9 finish after taking over when the club was 2-5.

John Clayton of ESPN.com reports that the San Francisco 49ers may be interested in acquiring former Rams head coach Scott Linehan to be their offensive coordinator.

Our View:That would mean Linehan would replace Mike Martz in both St. Louis and San Francisco. We're not sure what anyone would see in Linehan to make him their coordinator considering how things went with the Rams, but he did do well in Minnesota and Miami previous to that.

Mike Martz has been fired as offensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers by head coach Mike Singletary, according to ESPN.com.

Our View:Singletary is an old-school type, which is far from what the eccentric Martz stands for. Martz will undoubtedly have a job somewhere, as there's no denying his offensive prowess.

Frank Gore had 11 carries for 58 yards in Week 17.

Our View:Gore was able to reach 1,000 yards on the ground for the season with his final performance, even if he wasn't able to help fantasy owners very much.
