Mike Nugent deemed himself healthy after recovering from a torn right quadriceps, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:He expects to push Matt Bryant for the No. 1 role at placekicker. Nugent has made 75-of-92 (81.5 percent) of his career field goal attempts in the NFL, but only made 3-of-9 attempts from 50+ yards.

Newly acquired place kicker Mike Nugent has the early edge in competition with Matt Bryant for the starting job next season, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:Fitting GM Mark Dominik's plan of getting younger at the position, the 27-year-old Nugent is seven years younger than Bryant, who hasn't made a field goal longer than 49 yards in nearly three seasons.

The Buccaneers have signed kicker Mike Nugent, the St. Petersburg Times reports. Terms of the deal are not known.

Our View:Nugent is coming off of an injury-riddled 2008, and he didn't live up to his second-round pick billing during his tenure with the Jets. However, we would expect him to give Matt Bryant a strong push for the Bucs gig in 2009. Bryant hit 84.2 percent of his field goals last season, but he ranked near the bottom of the league in kickoff depth.

Mike Nugent is expected to test free agency, according to Scout.com. He has declined an offer to return to the Jets.

Our View:Nugent only played in one game in 2008 with Jay Feely the No. 1 placekicker for the Jets. Nugent is an unreliable kicker and only made 3-of-9 field goal attempts from 50 or more yards over his career.

Jets inactives: QB Brett Ratliff (3rd), K Mike Nugent, WR David Clowney, RB Marcus Mason, CB Drew Coleman, SS Eric Smith, LB David Harris, TE Bubba Franks.

Our View:Jay Feely will continue to kick for the Jets.
