Updating an earlier item, the Redskins formally interviewed former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan on Monday, and his hiring appears imminent, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:There's no doubt that Shanahan would provide legitimacy and bonafide head coaching experience to a franchise that has been sorely lacking both in the past two seasons, but Shanahan's last decade in Denver was often marred by what has been plaguing Washington - mediocrity. It's a giant step forward for the Redskins, but that's not saying as much as it would be for many other teams.

Jason La Canfora reports that former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan already has "much staff ready," and his hiring as the Washington Redskins' next head coach in the wake of Jim Zorn's firing is all but a formality.

Our View:It will be a major upset if Shanahan is not in the nation's capital by the end of the week. Many reports have him "excited" about grooming a new young quarterback, as well, meaning Jason Campbell's days in D.C. could be as numbered as Zorn's were before the ax was dropped. Stay tuned.

In the least surprising news of the NFL season so far, the Washington Redskins fired head coach Jim Zorn on Monday, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:Zorn was 12-20 in his two years on the job, which included a dismal 4-12 record this season. His hiring by Washington never seemed to make much sense, and expect the organization to now go out and get the big fish it has so desperately craved.

Jason Campbell was 28-of-42 for 281 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Chargers.

Our View:Campbell had a fine game, but still couldn't deliver his team a much needed victory against a Chargers team that was resting it's starters. Despite the Redskins miserable season, he still ended up with over 3,500 yards, 20 TDs and 15 picks.
