The Redskins have placed a first round tender on quarterback Jason Campbell, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View:This means that, technically, Campbell can sign with any team, but the Redskins have a right to match any offer. If they do not, they receive the signing club's first-round pick as compensation. Most believe the Redskins will keep Campbell around for at least one more season.

AOL FanHouse thinks the Redskins should avoid taking a quarterback with their number four overall draft pick this spring.

Our View:The reasoning? Washington's horrid offensive line, which would "be a pretty sure way to ruin a promising quarterback's career before it had a chance to get started." While that may be true, if Sam Bradford, Jimmy Clausen or both are impressive in their workouts, there would be nothing wrong with the 'Skins drafting one of them and sitting them for a season, the way teams used to. Expect Mike Shanahan to do what most expect him to do and draft a signal caller.

ESPN.com's John Clayton expects the Redskins to use a first and third-round tender on incumbent quarterback Jason Campbell.

Our View:Campbell is a restricted free agent and it appears the Skins want to keep him around for one more year to let whatever QB they take in the draft get some seasoning behind the veteran. At least that's Clayton's take. Stay tuned.

Jason Campbell will most likely be Washington's starting quarterback for one more season, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:New coach Mike Shanahan fully intends to draft and develop his own new quarterback, but is said to prefer starting Campbell in 2010. Playing under an offensive guru like Shanahan, Campbell could likely be a very competent quarterback, and could even be a more-than-acceptable option in two-quarterback leagues next season. Stay tuned.

Updating an earlier item, the Redskins formally interviewed former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan on Monday, and his hiring appears imminent, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:There's no doubt that Shanahan would provide legitimacy and bonafide head coaching experience to a franchise that has been sorely lacking both in the past two seasons, but Shanahan's last decade in Denver was often marred by what has been plaguing Washington - mediocrity. It's a giant step forward for the Redskins, but that's not saying as much as it would be for many other teams.
