The Denver Post mentions impending free agent Derrick Ward as an option to fill the Broncos' need at running back. Darren Sproles was mentioned as well.

Our View:Ward would be a solid upgrade for Denver as he broke out with 1,025 rushing yards as the top backup behind Brandon Jacobs in New York. Speaking of Jacobs, he is also set to become a free agent, and it remains to be seen if the Giants can re-sign both backs.
December 28, 2008
Derrick Ward will start today's game in place of Brandon Jacobs (knee), according to FOX Sports.

Our View:Ward has a tough match-up against the Vikings on their home turf, but is worth fantasy consideration as he is only 52 rushing yards away from 1,000 despite serving as a backup behind Jacobs. He is averaging 5.7 yards per carry.
December 21, 2008
Running back Brandon Jacobs (knee) was back and made the start for the Giants, but it was his backup Derrick Ward who continuously made big plays as the Giants clinched home field advantage in the playoffs. He finished with 215 yards on 15 carries and the Giants emerged victorious.

Our View:Ward came up with one big run after another, including some very big plays in overtime. He did not get into the end zone, but his numbers were nonetheless very impressive.
December 18, 2008
Running back Derrick Ward (ankle) was practicing again on Thursday after being held out of Wednesday's session, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Our View:Ward did a nice job filling in for Brandon Jacobs the past couple of weeks, but the big fella figures to be back for Sunday's showdown with the Panthers.
December 17, 2008
Derrick Ward was held out of practice on Wednesday due to an ankle injury, according to the Sporting News.

Our View:It’s unclear if Ward will play this weekend, but even if he does suit up, his work will likely be limited due to the fact Brandon Jacobs is expected to return to action. That said, Ward has received double-digit carries in seven of the last eight games, so assuming he plays, he’s usable as a flex option if you’re lacking better options.
December 14, 2008
Running back Derrick Ward filled in for the injured Brandon Jacobs (knee) on Sunday in the Giants loss to the Cowboys. He carried the ball 14 times for 64 yards.

Our View:His 4.6 yards per carry warranted more action, but the Giants continued to go to Eli Manning, who was pressured into an 18-of-35 night with two interceptions.
November 30, 2008
Running back Derrick Ward was not with Plaxico Burress and Antonio Pierce on Friday night when the receiver accidentally shot himself, Pro Football Talk confirms. This refutes an earlier report. The belief that a third Giant was with Burress and Pierce remains.

Our View:We're sure the minute-by-minute coverage of Plax will continue in the coming week. Aren't you excited? We're not even sure the mystery third Giant faces a charge or potential fine or suspension.
November 30, 2008
Running back Derrick Ward was with Plaxico Burress and Antonio Pierce on Friday night, a source informs Pro Football Talk. It's not known if Ward is in danger of being charged with anything or was even involved when Burress accidentally shot himself.

Our View:At this point, there's no reason for fantasy owners to be too worried about Ward's status. More details should emerge in the coming days and weeks.
November 23, 2008
Derrick Ward had a nice game for the Giants on Sunday, rushing for 69 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. He also had four receptions for 30 yards.

Our View:Ward could have more fantasy value in the coming weeks if Brandon Jacobs has to be held out again, as he was this week.
November 2, 2008
Derrick Ward had a strong day backing up Brandon Jacobs, rushing for 63 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries on Sunday against the Cowboys.

Our View:Ward doesn't get enough consistent playing time to be a reliable fantasy option, but makes for a good depth player on most rosters.
July 24, 2008
The NY Daily News reports that Derrick Ward could be limited to one practice per day at the start of camp. He is recovering from a broken fibula.

Our View:Ward won't see much time unless Brandon Jacobs or Ahmad Bradshaw goes down. He's a good play if that does occur.
June 4, 2008
Derrick Ward stated that he is at about 90-95% health right now, and isn't at all limited in what he can do on the field, according to the NY Daily News. He is recovering from a broken fibula. Ward got his ring, but did not play in the Super Bowl, and he commented, "We got there and won our ring, but wasn't part of it. I want the chance to play in one and showcase what I have."

Our View:This is good news for Ward and the Giants' running game. Ward will compete with Ahmad Bradshaw for the top backup job behind Brandon Jacobs. Ward rushed for 602 yards on 125 carries in 2007, with a solid 4.8 average. He also hauled in 26 receptions for another 179 yards, and could hold some fantasy value this season if he wins the backup role, namely for PPR leagues.
May 28, 2008
Running back Derrick Ward’s broken leg he suffered back on Dec. 2 is fully healed, and expects to participate in the New York Giants mid-June minicamp, according to the Sporting News.

Our View:Ward will be brought along slowly up through training camp where he will likely be limited to one practice per day. He will compete with Ahmad Bradshaw for the right to be the primary backup to starter Brandon Jacobs.
March 14, 2008
The Giants have decided to keep Derrick Ward in the fold for next season by signing him to a one-year, $1 million contract, according to the New York Daily News. He could earn another million in incentives. With Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw and Reuben Droughns already in the fold it's going to be tought for Ward to make much fantasy noise unless injuries open up playing time again in 2008. He racked up 602 yards and three touchdowns last season before injuries cut his season short.
February 28, 2008
Derrick Ward appears to be set to test the open market, according to a report in the Star-Ledger. The report cites sources with knowledge of the contract discussions - suggesting that the running back will attempt to gauge his value in free agency. Ward, who has battled various injuries during his four-year career, rushed for 602 yards on 125 carries last season.
February 6, 2008
The New York Giants have begun contract negotiations with unrestricted free-agent Derrick Ward, according to the NY Star-Ledger. Ward has missed 18 games due to injury the past few seasons, but when healthy has displayed plenty of explosiveness. He is capable of pushing Ahmad Bradshaw for time in the Giants backfield.
