Derrick Ward stated that he is at about 90-95% health right now, and isn't at all limited in what he can do on the field, according to the NY Daily News. He is recovering from a broken fibula. Ward got his ring, but did not play in the Super Bowl, and he commented, "We got there and won our ring, but wasn't part of it. I want the chance to play in one and showcase what I have."

Our View:This is good news for Ward and the Giants' running game. Ward will compete with Ahmad Bradshaw for the top backup job behind Brandon Jacobs. Ward rushed for 602 yards on 125 carries in 2007, with a solid 4.8 average. He also hauled in 26 receptions for another 179 yards, and could hold some fantasy value this season if he wins the backup role, namely for PPR leagues.

Running back Derrick Ward’s broken leg he suffered back on Dec. 2 is fully healed, and expects to participate in the New York Giants mid-June minicamp, according to the Sporting News.

Our View:Ward will be brought along slowly up through training camp where he will likely be limited to one practice per day. He will compete with Ahmad Bradshaw for the right to be the primary backup to starter Brandon Jacobs.

The Giants have decided to keep Derrick Ward in the fold for next season by signing him to a one-year, $1 million contract, according to the New York Daily News. He could earn another million in incentives. With Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw and Reuben Droughns already in the fold it's going to be tought for Ward to make much fantasy noise unless injuries open up playing time again in 2008. He racked up 602 yards and three touchdowns last season before injuries cut his season short.

Derrick Ward appears to be set to test the open market, according to a report in the Star-Ledger. The report cites sources with knowledge of the contract discussions - suggesting that the running back will attempt to gauge his value in free agency. Ward, who has battled various injuries during his four-year career, rushed for 602 yards on 125 carries last season.

The New York Giants have begun contract negotiations with unrestricted free-agent Derrick Ward, according to the NY Star-Ledger. Ward has missed 18 games due to injury the past few seasons, but when healthy has displayed plenty of explosiveness. He is capable of pushing Ahmad Bradshaw for time in the Giants backfield.
