Jared Allen will skip voluntary workouts with the Vikings, according to the Pioneer Press. The off-season workout program starts Monday.

Our View:Allen is training on his own and he noted that he is in great shape. He had the garage at his Arizona home converted into a gym, and he intends to work out there.

The Vikings announced Wednesday that they have hired Diron Reynolds to be the team's defensive line coach, NFL.com reports.

Our View:Formerly an assistant with the Colts and Dolphins, Reynolds worked with current Minnesota defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier while in Indianapolis.

Defensive end Jared Allen had two sacks and a forced fumble in Minnesota's loss to Philadelphia on Sunday.

Our View:Allen is one of the best in the game at his position. He had 14.5 sacks and three forced fumbles on the season.

ESPN.com reports that politicians in Minnesota have said no to the team getting any type of public funding in 2009 for a new stadium.

Our View:Owner Zygi Wilf wants a new stadium, and wants $600 million in public money, but with the current economy, it would be tough to justify that type of spending. The team has a lease with the Metrodome through 2011. If Wilf decides to sell at that point, it's not out of the realm of possibility the team could move, though that's far down the line.

Jared Allen practiced Friday after sitting out the previous two days to undergo treatment on his sprained left knee, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:This is encouraging news, but the Vikings are yet to determine the elite defensive end's status against Atlanta.
