Devard Darling has claimed the No. 2 role at wide receiver, according to the KC Star.

Our View:Darling did not dazzle in training camp and gets the job due to his experience. The Chiefs have some promising young receivers, like Will Franklin, but none have performed consistently.

Devard Darling and Jeff Webb are battling for the starting role opposite Dwayne Bowe, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:Webb hauled in 28 receptions as a part-time player last season, but the Chiefs see him as more of a reserve. Darling was unable to make much of an impact or earn much playing time in four seasons with Baltimore, but scored three touchdowns on his 18 receptions in 2007, with a 18.1 average. Darling made a fair share of amazing catches while at Washington State, and he will be on our radar through training camp.

If the season started today, wide receiver Devard Darling would join Dwayne Bowe in the starting lineup, according to the Kansas City Star. Darling, a four-year veteran, has compiled 20 receptions for 331 yards and three touchdowns during his career.

Our View:With only Jeff Webb, Bobby Sippio and Maurice Price behind him on the depth chart, we expect the Chiefs to look for help in the draft.

The Chiefs signed free agent Devard Darling to a contract on Tuesday, according to the AP. He caught just 18 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns for the Ravens in 2007, but he'll give the Chiefs some depth at wide receiver after releasing Eddie Kennison.

Devard Darling was the Ravens' big-play receiver Sunday, collecting four passes for 107 yards and a TD. Given that Darling came into the game with four catches for 31 yards and no TDs in his four-year career, this outburst certainly is a surprise.
