Player Notes
December 9, 2008
Bengals running back Chris Perry injured his groin on Sunday against the Colts, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:Perry never developed into a decent option at the position this season, forcing the Bengals to acquire Chris Benson.
December 2, 2008
Chris Perry is dealing with a strained groin, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:Perry's injury should not be of concern to fantasy owners as he is only averaging 2.6 yards per carry as a backup behind Cedric Benson.
November 16, 2008
Chris Perry exited the game against Philadelphia during the overtime period with a head injury.

Our View:No additional information is currently available, but it appeared that Perry might have suffered a concussion.
November 14, 2008
Cedric Benson was unable to practice Thursday due to a back ailment, and former starter Chris Perry handled all of the reps with the first-team offense, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:Perry would likely start against the Eagles if Benson is unable to go. Perry would be looking to redeem himself after falling out of favor with poor ball security and a 2.6 yards-per-carry average. This is good news for him, but Perry would not merit fantasy consideration.
October 31, 2008
Coach Marvin Lewis commented on running back Chris Perry, who has not had a rushing attempt in the last two games, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Lewis said, "He's not hurt. Obviously we moved Cedric Benson ahead of him. We continue to have things in the offense for Chris to carry the football and do things. After being down 21-6 last week, we kind of got off kilter a little bit, so we don't get as many of those things off. He will continue to be in there on all downs, he just has to keep playing and do better at everything he's doing."

Our View:Perry lost his job due to poor ball security, and holds no fantasy value while working in a significantly reduced role as the No. 2 option.
October 16, 2008
Bengals.com reports that Chris Perry (shoulder) returned to practice on Thursday after missing all of Wednesday's workout.

Our View:Perry is averaging a mere 2.6 yards per carry this season and has struggled with fumbles. Cedric Benson appears to be moving in on his job.
October 13, 2008
Chris Perry is on a short leash and the Dayton Daily News is speculating that the Bengals may analyze other options regarding their starter. Coach Marvin Lewis said, "We're going to look at all that. We need to look at it and take a hard look, and see what's the best thing for us to go forward. It's a combination of things. I'm not going to sit here and elaborate much on it now. We've got to do better. It's not good enough."

Our View:Perry only rushed 11 times Sunday, with a dismal 1.6-yard average, and is averaging 2.6 yards-per-carry for the season. He has also struggled with fumbles, which could lead to his demise as a starter. The top candidates to replace him would be Kenny Watson and the recently acquired Cedric Benson.
October 12, 2008
Chris Perry struggled for the Bengals on Sunday, rushing the ball 11 times for 14 yards and making two catches for two yards.

Our View:Cedric Benson wasn't much better with four rushes for six yards. Still, Perry is at risk for losing the starting job in Cincinnati if this continues. He has 36 rushes for only 74 yards over the last three games.
October 6, 2008
Chris Perry is still struggling with ball security as he fumbled for the fifth time in Sunday's close loss to Dallas, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:If he doesn't take better care of the ball, newly acquired Cedric Benson could potentially unseat him as the starter, especially since Perry is only averaging 2.8 yards per carry.
October 3, 2008
Chris Perry has been limited in practice all week because of a sore hamstring but he is listed as probable in Friday's injury report.

Our View:Perry has rushed for 208 yards and two touchdowns this season for the Bengals. He will see plenty of carries this week as Carson Palmer battles a sore elbow.
October 1, 2008
Chris Perry was limited in practice on Wednesday due to a sore hamstring, according to the AP.

Our View:This could be somewhat of an indication on why the Bengals went out and signed Cedric Benson. Wednesday was the first time that Perry's name has shown up on the injury report but there wasn't any indication whether or not he will ready for Week 5.
September 30, 2008
Chris Perry is having ball security issues as he fumbled four times over the first four games of the season, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He said, "I can't let it happen any more. It's me not taking care of the ball the way I should. I have to make sure I cover up the ball when I'm expecting to get contact."

Our View:If he continues to cough up the ball, he would lose his starting gig at running back, especially since he only holds a 2.9 yards-per-carry average.
September 21, 2008
Running back Chris Perry rushed 20 times for 74 yards and a touchdown in the Week 3 loss to the Giants. He chipped in two catches for 19 yards.

Our View:Perry managed a 25-yard scamper against the Giants, and that stands as the second-longest run of his career. He hasn't been dynamic thus far, but the Bengals are feeding him the ball at lot and he has scored in each of the last two games. Perry looks like a decent flex option in most leagues.
September 14, 2008
Chris Perry compiled 21 carries for 64 yards and a 13-yard touchdown run in the home loss to Tennessee.

Our View:Perry also lost two fumbles against the Titans and is averaging just 2.6 yards a tote after two games.
September 3, 2008
Chris Perry appreciates the opportunity to start for the Bengals, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He said, "It's football. I've done it before, wanted to do it for a while, but things happened. Now it's here, and I've got to take advantage of it. Nobody wants to be a backup. I don't know anybody here who wants to be a backup. Everybody wants to be a starter and perform well. Yeah, this is what I wanted." He added, "I'm just the starting running back for the Bengals on opening day. I don't think I'm any better than the guys behind me or anything like that; I'm still looking in my rear-view mirror. I still have motivation. I haven't done anything yet."

Our View:Perry is the best pass-catcher among the running backs on the Bengals' roster, and will get his first test to prove he deserves to be the starter this weekend at Baltimore.
August 23, 2008
Chris Perry carried the ball 12 times for 36 yards while adding four catches for 22 yards in the Bengals' preseason loss Saturday.

Our View:Perry's numbers aren't particularly good this preseason, but he has impressed his coaches enough that he's at the top of the depth chart with Rudi Johnson out.
August 21, 2008
Coach Marvin Lewis is praising Chris Perry, who would be the starting running back if the season started today, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Lewis said, "I do see Chris being very confident, and I think Chris feels like he's the starting running back and he feels good about that. Right now that's how we'd probably start the regular season. He feels good about it and he's exhibiting that on the practice field as well, not only in the games he's played but in the way he's practiced."

Our View:Rudi Johnson has been passed on the depth chart as he has been unable to practice and compete due to a hamstring ailment. Johnson still has time to reclaim his starting role, but will need to get in significant work in practice and play in at least one preseason game. If Perry does remain the starter for Week 1, he would hold solid value in PPR leagues.
August 11, 2008
Chris Perry looked extremely sharp on Monday night with 11 carries for 42 yards and a TD for the Bengals. Perry also pulled in two passes in the passing game for nine yards.

Our View:While many assume that Kenny Watson will be the back to target behind Rudi Johnson, there are plenty who see Perry as a potential option this season, especially in PPR formats.
July 29, 2008
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that tailback Chris Perry made a fine showing Monday morning and again during the night practice. He is attempting to return from ankle and shin injuries that kept him out all of last season. "I've graduated from hungry and made it to greedy," he said of his desire to get back on the field. Another hurdle will come Tuesday when the players will wear full pads and have live contact.

Our View:We still need to see durability from Perry, who stands third on the depth chart behind Rudi Johnson and Kenny Watson. He provides solid depth for the Bengals but don't expect him to make a fantasy impact this season.
June 23, 2008
Chris Perry noted that he believes he is about 85% recovered from his 2006 ankle surgery, according to the Dayton Daily News. Perry had a good showing in OTA sessions and mini-camp, but he reportedly lacked initial burst, quickness and struggled running the ball outside.

Our View:His playing status with the Bengals remains unclear, and he will have a tough challenge to make the team, while competing with Kenny Watson, DeDe Dorsey, and promising rookie free agent James Johnson.
May 28, 2008
The Cincinnati Bengals are holding another offseason practice at this hour, and running back Chris Perry is participating fully, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:Perry missed the entire 2007 season due to an ankle injury, and has struggled with injuries his entire career. The Bengals are hopeful he can provide some explosive plays as a change-of-pace threat on third downs in 2008.
May 15, 2008
Quarterback Carson Palmer praised running back Chris Perry, according to the Dayton Daily News. Palmer said, "He’s such a threat out of the backfield. I compare him to LaDainian Tomlinson or Larry Johnson running the screen routes."

Our View:Perry is reportedly healthy again, and he will battle Kenny Watson for the top backup role. Kenny Irons should be in the mix as well. Perry could hold favorable value, namely for PPR leagues, evidenced by Palmer's comments, and the fact that Rudi Johnson has had trouble staying healthy as of late.
May 10, 2008
Chris Perry is healthy and ready to play this season, and that is the reason why the Bengals didn't take a running back in the draft, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:Rudi Johnson will start this season, and Perry will compete with Kenny Watson for the top backup role. Second year pro Kenny Irons should be in the mix as well.
May 4, 2008
Head coach Marv Lewis expects Chris Perry to be on the field when the Bengals begins a voluntary minicamp on May 13, the team's official web site reports. He hasn't played since breaking his right fibula in November of 2006.

Our View:Perry is a former first-round pick who was supposed to be a better version of Kenny Watson. Instead, Perry will need to battle for a roster spot this summer and fall.
April 2, 2008
The Cincinnati Bengals are optimistic that injury-prone tailback Chris Perry might be ready for on-field work later this spring, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Head coach Marvin Lewis also said Perry remains under the supervision of the Bengals’ medical staff at this time. There are mixed signals coming out of Cincinnati regarding Perry. Last month it was reported that he would definitely participate in the offseason program. At this point, we will have to see him on the field, before we believe any news report.
March 19, 2008
Chris Perry will participate in the Cincinnati Bengals offseason program according to Bengals.com. In a phone interview Tuesday, Perry said this is the best he's felt, literally, in years and is confident that he can follow through on the plan that puts him on the field for spring practices in early May. "I've just been focusing on getting healthy," Perry said. "It's really the only thing I've been thinking about." Except for a few practices, the last time Perry was on the field was 478 days ago. His litany of NFL injuries are almost beyond belief, starting with the sports hernia that wiped out all but two games of his rookie year and the ankle that has eliminated the last 21 games of his third and fourth seasons.
