In a 27-10 win over the Bengals, Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed 17-of-30 passes for 243 yards and one touchdown while also running three times for 13 yards and one score.

Our View:It was a snowy night and a sloppy field, so Pittsburgh dialed up more runs than throws. Roethlisberger has been dealing with a shoulder injury, but it hasn't seemed to bother him of late.
November 16, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger didn't seem to be hindered by his shoulder ailment Sunday, as he completed 31-of-41 passes for 308 yards in the Steelers' 11-10 win over San Diego.

Our View:Pittsburgh failed to tally a touchdown, but a safety and three Jeff Reed field goals was enough to put them over the top.
November 15, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger had a great week of practice and is not on the Steelers' injury report, according to the Beaver County Times. He had been dealing with a sprained shoulder.

Our View:Roethlisberger is worth employing in fantasy lineups against the Chargers' 32nd ranked pass defense.
November 13, 2008
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is expected to get the start against San Diego this week, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:Roethlisberger went through a full practice on Wednesday, and his troublesome right shoulder is seemingly good to go. That's great news for fantasy owners as the Chargers have the worst pass defense in the NFL.
November 12, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger is still dealing with his sprained right shoulder, but practiced Wednesday, according to ESPN. He is hopeful he can play in Week 11 and said, "Oh yeah, I'm practicing. I'm going to practice today and every day, unless something happens. It always helps when you're actually out there doing stuff and guys can hear your voice and see the ball come out of your hands. So I think it will help a lot."

Our View:Coach Mike Tomlin previously mentioned that Roethlisberger's struggles were linked to him not practicing early in the week. He has thrown eight interceptions over his last three games and was out of rhythm with his receivers. Hopefully he will be able to play and get back on track against San Diego, whose pass defense is currently ranked last in the NFL.
November 11, 2008
Coach Mike Tomlin is hopeful Ben Roethlisberger will be able to practice this week while dealing with his right shoulder injury, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Tomlin said, "It's our intent right now that we're hopeful that he'll practice. Of course the shoulder is what it is. It's something he has dealt with and will continue to deal with. We'll see where he is when he comes in here and gets looked at today. We'll see what his availability is for practice after that."

Our View:He was able to play last weekend, but threw three interceptions against the Colts. Roethlisberger is among the toughest quarterbacks in the NFL, but will be a risky fantasy option if able to play against the Chargers, who are led by ballhawks Antonio Cromartie and Quentin Jammer on defense.
November 10, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger moved into second on the Steelers' career-passing list with 13,359 yards, passing Kordell Stewart (13,328), according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

November 9, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger did start for the Steelers against the Colts but the game did not go the way he wanted it to go. Big Ben throw for 284 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions.

Our View:Roethlisberger was able to play today which was good news for the Steelers and the shoulder didn't seem to cause him many problems.
November 9, 2008
Based on the pre-game comments on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is going to start.

Our View:The Post-Gazette is not sure how effective Big Ben will be, and fantasy owners are gambling big time if they use Roethlisberger this week.
November 9, 2008
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) is active for the Week 10 tilt against the Colts.

Our View:At this point, we don't know for sure if Big Ben or Byron Leftwich will start. Previous reports suggested Roethlisberger would give it a go, but he could truly be a game-time decision.
November 9, 2008
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) has been cleared to start in Week 10 against the Colts, FOXSports.com reports.

Our View:The Steelers and Colts are an afternoon game, but the sense is that Big Ben will give it a go. Fantasy owners who have a good secondary option may want to play it safe, though.
November 7, 2008

Ben Roethlisberger missed Thursday's practice while dealing with a slightly separated right shoulder and a left pinkie ligament injury, but he is optimistic about practicing Friday and playing in Week 10 against the Colts, according to ESPN.

Our View:Byron Leftwich would start at quarterback if Roethlisberger is unable to go. We will keep you posted on his status.
November 6, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger will wear a brace on his injured left thumb for the next two months, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He tore a ligament in the thumb during the October 26 game against the Giants.

Our View:His status for Week 10 against the Colts remains undetermined. Byron Leftwich would start if he is unable to go.
November 5, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger rested his sore right shoulder on Wednesday, although his latest tests showed no additional damage, according to the AP. The Steelers might not know until late in the week if he can play Sunday against the Colts.

Our View:Big Ben has been battling this injury since the opening week of the season. Head coach Mike Tomlin has said that he doesn't think the injury has healed correctly. If Roethlisberger can't go it will be Byron Leftwich under center.
November 5, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger's MRI revealed no structural damage in his throwing shoulder, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He remains day-to-day and coach Mike Tomlin said, "His injury status is no different. The MRI was very similar if not the same as it has been."

Our View:Roethlisberger commented after practice that he wants to play against the Colts Sunday, but will have to see how his shoulder responds as the week moves along. Byron Leftwich would start if Roethlisberger is unable to go.
November 5, 2008
Coach Mike Tomlin admitted that Ben Roethlisberger's right shoulder did not fully heal since Mario Williams injured it on a sack in the season opener against the Texans, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Tomlin said, "I'm sure his shoulder has affected him. How much has it affected him, I do not know. It really is kind of irrelevant. We don't look for or seek excuses. We don't make them, whether we are talking about Ben or someone else or our team in general. Things like bumps and bruises and injuries are part of this game. When we deem people healthy enough to play, then their play speaks for itself. That's how we approach it."

Our View:The team is still yet to reveal the results of his MRI. As of now, it is believed he bruised an AC joint in his shoulder during Monday's battle at Washington. He remains listed as day-to-day.
November 4, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger is considered day-to-day with a bruised AC joint in his shoulder, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View:Further testing will be done today and it is still possible that a more serious injury to the shoulder will be found, but for now there does not appear to be any ligament damage.
November 3, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger was replaced in the second half by Byron Leftwich after a terrible first half performance on Monday against the Redskins. His right shoulder, which has been nagging him all season, is apparently too bad to play on.

Our View:His status going forward is questionable. He was 5-for-17 with an interception.
October 28, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger is once again dealing with a sore right shoulder and could return to the injury list this week, according to the AP. "Same thing, right shoulder," coach Mike Tomlin said. "That's going to continue to be week to week. It was better last week because he rarely got hit (Oct. 19) versus the Bengals. He got hit a few times on Sunday. We'll see how he feels when he comes in here on Wednesday."

Our View:Big Ben was diagnosed several weeks ago with a slight separation, and it sounds like the injury will linger. Hopefully it won't negatively affect his play.
October 28, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger suffered through a terrible outing against the Giants in Week 8, but passed Neil O'Donnell and moved into third place on the Steelers' career list with 13,025 passing yards, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:He trails only Terry Bradshaw at 27,989 passing yards and Kordell Stewart at 13,328. Roethlisberger threw four interceptions against New York, and has another tough battle in Week 9 against the Redskins' 11th ranked pass defense.
October 26, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger had an awful game for the Steelers, completing 13-of-29 passes for 189 yards with one touchdown pass and four interceptions on Sunday.

Our View:Big Ben had only thrown three picks total coming into the game. He was sacked five times, so it was not as if his offensive line was helping. Roethlisberger has been playing well recently, so there is no reason to be overly concerned about this poor performance.
October 19, 2008
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed 17-of-28 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 7 victory over Cincinnati.

Our View:Roethlisberger, who continues to play through various injuries, has thrown for 515 yards with five touchdowns against one interception in the past two games.
October 14, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger's shoulder is in the best condition it's been in since he injured it in Week 1, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "Ben is playing winning football for us," coach Mike Tomlin said. "He hasn't missed any game action, so I haven't thought that much about it."

Our View:Obviously the bye week sped up Big Ben's healing process. He has a nice matchup this weekend against the Bengals.
October 14, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger practiced Monday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The Steelers had a bye last week and Roethlisberger sat out both practices while nursing a shoulder ailment.

Our View:He should be penciled into fantasy lineups this weekend against the rival Bengals, despite fielding the 4th ranked pass defense.
October 8, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger played in Week 5 with an injured shoulder but that did not hamper him at all. In the Steelers win over the Jaguars, Big Ben threw 309 yards and three scores. These numbers were good enough to help the quarterback win the AFC offensive player of the week, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune.

Our View:The Steelers have a bye in Week 6 so he will have an extra week for the shoulder to heal.
October 7, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger sat out the Steelers practice on Tuesday which was the only one the team will have this week due to their bye, according to CBSSportsline.com.

Our View:Big Ben has been taking some hits lately but with the Steelers having a bye this week it is a perfect time to give the quarterback some rest.
October 5, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger came into Sunday night's game versus the Jaguars questionable to even play but he did play and he tore up the Jacksonville defense. Big Ben completed 26 passes for 309 yards and a score in the Steelers victory.

Our View:Roethlisberger was hit and beat up all night but continued to battle. With the Steelers trailing late in the fourth quarter, Big Ben was hit hard and aggravated his shoulder injury. Two plays later he throw the game-winning touchdown.
October 5, 2008
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who is listed as questionable for Sunday night’s game in Jacksonville with a shoulder injury, is going to try to play, according to Adam Schefter of the NFL Network.

Our View:Big Ben didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday and was limited on Friday. Backup quarterback Byron leftwich took a lot of snaps in practice this week, but Roethlisberger wants to try to go and expects to play.
October 4, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger returned to practice Friday and is expected to start Sunday against the Jaguars, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Big Ben received an injection in his sore right shoulder on Thursday.

Our View:Byron Lefwitch will be around just in case Roethlisberger has a setback, but it appears that Big Ben is good to go for this weekend, though his matchup is less than ideal.
October 3, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger is listed as questionable according to the injury report. He missed multiple practices this week because of his lingering shoulder issues.

Our View:If he is unable to go, expect Byron Leftwich to start under center on Sunday. We will keep you updated on Big Ben's status.
October 2, 2008

October 1, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger has been nursing a shoulder injury for most of the year and sat out practice on Wednesday, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View:The number of sacks that Big Ben has been taking is definitely taking a toll on the quarterback. In four games he has been sacked 13 times. Even though he has spent a lot of time on the turf, Roethlisberger has thrown four touchdowns and only two interceptions.
September 29, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger did just enough to win in Pittsburgh on Monday as the Steelers beat the Ravens 23-20. The quarterback was 14-for-24 for 191 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Our View:Roethlisberger continues to hold onto the pigskin for too long and tonight it cost him three more sacks. He has to make quicker reads going forward if he wants to take the next step as a top NFL quarterback.
September 23, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger is not expected to miss practice time this week due to his ailing right hand, according to the AP.

Our View:Roethlisberger looks good to go for Week 4, but fantasy owners should be concerned as he was sacked eight times by the Eagles last weekend and star running back Willie Parker will be out of action, meaning the Ravens' defense will likely blitz early and often.
September 22, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger's X-ray came back negative and revealed no broken bones, but his hand, which was stepped on, will be re-evaluated today, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:We will keep you posted on his status. He was sacked eight times by the Eagles, which could have reached a dozen if not for penalties and a yard gain on several plays.
September 21, 2008
The AP reports that Ben Roethlisberger was sacked nine times by the Eagles on Sunday, once for a safety. The Philly defense also forced an interception while keeping Big Ben out of the end zone. Roethlisberger left the game late in the fourth quarter with an undisclosed injury.

Our View:Roethlisberger's shoulder has been giving him fits this season but it's not certain if that was the injury which eventually forced him to leave the game. The Pittsburgh quarterback is as tough as any of them but he took an uncanny beating on Sunday. We'll update you as more news becomes available.
September 21, 2008
As expected, Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) is active and will start in Week 3.

Our View:We fully expected Big Ben to go against the Eagles. How effective he'll be is another matter, but fantasy owners should start him if they planned to.
September 19, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger practiced Friday and is probable for Sunday's game at Philadelphia, according to NFL.com. He has been dealing with a right shoulder injury.

Our View:Big Ben is among the toughest quarterbacks in the NFL and is safe to pencil into fantasy lineups. The Eagles' secondary shut down the Rams in Week 1, but was lit up in Week 2 by the Cowboys.
September 18, 2008
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was credited with a reception of -7 yards after statisticians changed what had been ruled a sack, according to the Allegheny Times. Big Ben was ruled to have been sacked by Browns lineman Shaun Smith, but it was determined he threw the ball off an offensive lineman and caught it before being tackled.

Our View:So does this mean owners in PPR leagues get credited with an extra point?
September 17, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger participated fully in practice on Wednesday despite his sprained shoulder according to steelers.com.

Our View:This is great news for Big Ben owners. He has a very difficult matchup against a talented Eagles secondary on Sunday so he is a tough start for Week 3.
September 16, 2008
The Miami Herald reports that Ben Roethlisberger's shoulder is not separated despite previous speculation. "I have no idea where that report came from," coach Mike Tomlin said. "It didn't come from me or my medical staff. If anybody in here has got any information about where that report came from, send them to me." Tomlin said Roethlisberger sprained his AC joint, an injury to the ligaments that attach the collarbone to the shoulder blade.

Our View:The injury will likely keep Roethlisberger from fully participating in practice Wednesday, but not from playing on Sunday against Philadelphia. The sore shoulder combined with the talented secondary, makes Roethlisberger a low-reward starter this week.
September 14, 2008
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had a solid game as his squad defeated Cleveland 10-6. Big Ben went 12-of-19 for 186 yards and one touchdown on the evening.

September 14, 2008
ESPN's John Clayton is reporting that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) might be a little worse for wear than the Steelers are indicating and could be limited with his passing tonight vs. Cleveland.

September 12, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger went through a full workout for the first time this week on Friday and is probable to play in Week 2 against Cleveland, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He had been nursing a sore right shoulder.

September 11, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger returned to practice on Thursday but was limited to what he was allowed to do because of his sore right shoulder, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

September 10, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger will play Week 2, but he did undergo tests on both his shoulder and right knee, which was hyperextended during Week 1, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:Roethlisberger will simply be limited in practice the rest of the week, but his playing status is not in doubt, so there is no need for fantasy owners to be too concerned.
September 9, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger will not be added to the long list of starting quarterbacks who will not play in Week 2. The Steelers trigger-man injured his shoulder after taking a hit from Mario Williams, but according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Big Ben will be ready to go for Week 2.

Our View:Ok, fantasy owners you can exhale. Big Ben will be fine.
September 9, 2008
It has been revealed that Ben Roethlisberger sustained a shoulder injury Sunday against Houston, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He sustained the injury when he hit the turf on a sack by Mario Williams.

Our View:Fantasy owners should not be concerned as he is expected to play in Week 2 at Cleveland. Roethlisberger is among the toughest quarterbacks in the NFL, and can handle a bit of soreness.
September 7, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger completed 13-of-14 passes for 137 yards, two touchdowns, and no picks in the season opener against the Texans. He sat out in the fourth quarter.

Our View:Big Ben could hardly be more efficient. When the Steelers are running well, Roethlisberger won't have to pass very much, but he still helped fantasy teams with two scores. He looks to be in mid-season form.
September 2, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger commented on being elected a team captain, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He said, "It's awesome because it comes from them. I've always tried to be a leader, whether I was captain or not. I'll just continue to be who I am and try to lead this team to victories."

Our View:Roethlisberger made his first Pro Bowl in 2007 and is expected to have another successful season with the Steelers, who are favored to win the AFC North division.
September 1, 2008
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, wide receiver Hines Ward, kicker Jeff Reed and linebacker James Farrior were named team captains of the Steelers on Monday, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View:There aren't many teams where the starting quarterback is not one of the captains, so this should not be a shock to anyone.
August 14, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger had a good game in the Steelers preseason contest against Buffalo, throwing 11 passes and completing nine of them for 142 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Our View:Roethlisberger avoided injury and hooked up with Santonio Holmes for a 40-yard touchdown. Solid night that fantasy owners will take.
August 6, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger will start and likely play one series in Friday's preseason opener, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The quarterback has been limited in practice due to a sore groin.

Our View:We didn't think the groin injury was anything to worry about, and the Steelers wouldn't risk Big Ben if they were at all concerned.
August 2, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger is day-to-day with a sore groin, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View:"Big Ben" is among the toughest players in the NFL at the position, and fantasy owners shouldn't be concerned with his ailment.
July 29, 2008
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that OC Bruce Arians is blown away by Ben Roethlisberger's play. "It almost scares me how good he is, how into it he is and how good he's going to be," Arians was saying between camp practices yesterday. "It's a night-and-day difference now from where he was two years ago. Then, he was like, 'I've got to take care of myself. This stuff is hard.' Now, he's like, 'I've got most of it down. I can help the other guys.' "

Our View:"I think we have an explosive offense that's ready to take off," Roethlisberger said. So far in camp, the Steelers have shown a propensity for the no-huddle offense, much to the quarterback's delight. "It's just always been that when things go faster and get crazy and I'm calling my own plays, things seem to work better for me." If Big Ben can match his 32 touchdowns from last season, he will be a top-5 quarterback for the season.
May 1, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger is pleased with the Steelers' 2008 draft, and they notably granted his request to add a big and tall receiver (Limas Sweed of Texas), according to ProFootballTalk. He said, "I like the draft, we did a good job all around."

Our View:Hines Ward cannot be pleased with the addition of Sweed, but he is big (6-4 212) and fast (ran 40 in 4.55) and will provide Roethlisberger with the big receiver he has been asking for. Big Ben broke out with 3154 passing yards and 32 touchdowns in 2007, and he still has room to improve on those numbers. Sweed should make an impact as a fantasy rookie as well, and will be a good prospect to target in keeper leagues.
April 21, 2008
The Steelers are looking to move down in the upcoming draft. In fact, the club may trade right out of the first round, director of football operations Kevin Colbert tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. The team believes the second round will be deep with talent. Colbert says the Steelers would consider anything but a quarterback or a tight end with the No. 23 pick.

Our View:The Steelers may be looking to do what the Eagles did in 2007, when Andy Reid dealt the 26th pick for a choices in the second (36), third (87), and fifth (159) rounds. Or maybe the Steelers are just blowing smoke screens and actually want to trade up for an offensive or defensive lineman.
April 4, 2008
Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney isn't lobbying, but he believes the day will come when teams will play 17-game regular seasons and three-game exhibition seasons, according to the Rocky Mountain News. "If we went to 17 games, one of those would be in a different place," Rooney said. The 17th game for each team would likely be at a neutral site, perhaps even an international affair.
March 3, 2008
The numbers have been released, and Ben Roethlisberger is quite rich. The Steelers and the quarterback have agreed to an eight-year, $102 million deal. It includes more than $36 million in guarantees, ESPN.com reports. Roethlisberger is the sixth quarterback to receive a $100 million deal.

February 22, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger, who has two-years remaining on his current deal, is negotiating with the Pittsburgh Steelers on a long-term contract extension, according to the Post-Gazette. Steelers’ director of football operations, Kevin Colbert, said an extension is likely to happen sooner, rather than later. "We are moving along. It is something that is progressing very well and we'd like to be able to finalize it," Colbert said. "But it is a big deal for him and a big deal for us. But all signs are positive that we are going to get it done." The Steelers would be wise to nail down Roethlisberger, who has already led them to one Super Bowl title. Last year, Big Ben completed 65.4% of his pass attempts and threw 32 touchdowns against only 11 interceptions, posting the best season of his career.
February 11, 2008
The Steelers this week will open contract talks with some of their players who can become unrestricted free agents and one who cannot -- quarterback Ben Roethlisberger , according to a report in the Post Gazette. Roethlisberger has two years left on the contract he signed as a rookie in 2004, but both sides have expressed a desire to reach a contract extension this year. Getting a contract extension and getting one quickly was one of three wishes Roethlisberger said he had for the offseason.
February 10, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger contributed little in yardage in Sunday's AFC loss in the Pro Bowl, but did manage to find T.J. Houshmandzadeh for a one yard score in the second quarter. Big Ben finish 5-for-9 with 42 yards and the one touchdown.
February 10, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers will likely embark upon negotiations this week to extend the QBs stay in Pittsburgh. Roethlisberger, who has two years remaining on his rookie contract believes things will go smoothly. "I'm eager, anxious, because I want to get it done with. I want to say let's go, let's get it over with so the talks can stop, people can stop bugging me about it. Because I just want to play football." After throwing for a career best 32 TD while only tossing 11 INT, Roethlisberger is fully recovered from his injury filled 2006 season and should be able to lead the Steelers for the foreseeable future as the face of the franchise. Pittsburgh-Post Gazette
January 5, 2008
Ben Roethlisberger had one terrible half and one brilliant half in Saturday's playoff loss to Jacksonville. The opening 30 minutes saw three interceptions, two of them on terrible decisions, but Big Ben rallied and finished the night 29-for-42 passing, with 337 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
