Antonio Gates said that his timing was off in Week 12 because a sprained foot had kept him out of practice, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Gates dropped three passes on Sunday. "My foot didn't have anything to do with my hands," he said. "It was just a situation where I hadn't got a chance to practice last week. This week I'm feeling good, my foot's feeling fine . . . and my hands are doing well."

When asked if he could play feeling how he did Friday, he said, "It'd be tough. We're going to have to really sit down and we're going to have to talk. It'll definitely be a game-time decision."

Antonio Gates was able to participate in part of Thursday's practice, according to the AP. He was no longer wearing a walking boot on his injured foot and was upbeat about his chances of playing on Sunday against the Redskins. "He did some work out here today," said Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer, who reiterated that Gates' availability will probably be decided at game time. "We are cautiously optimistic. He ran and he cut. It was positive."

Antonio Gates was still in his walking boot Thursday but remains hopeful of playing on Sunday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. I couldn't say at this point. I haven't really tested it yet," he said. "It's basically day-to-day. I'm just going to see how I feel every day. There's no need to try to test it early because you can set yourself back. The key is for me not to try to do anything, just stay off of it and let it rest and heal." Gates plans to test the foot sometime before Sunday.

The foot injury of Antonio Gates is not as bad as initially feared, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "My foot feels a lot better," Gates said. "I'm preparing to play this week." He is wearing a protective boot that he will not take off until tomorrow, when he will test his foot's strength and the level of pain.
