According to the team's official website, the San Diego Chargers have named Rob Chudzinski as the team's new tight ends and assistant coach.

Our View:This is Chudzinski's second stint as San Diego's tight ends coach. He held the position from 2005-06 before leaving for Cleveland, where he has been the offensive coordinator for the past two seasons.

Antonio Gates has decided not to represent the AFC in the Pro Bowl as he is nursing various ailments (ankle, toe, hip), according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Owen Daniels has been chosen as his replacement on the AFC roster. Gates should be fine by training camp.

Former Browns' offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski is joining the Chargers as assistant head coach/tight ends coach, according to John Clayton of ESPN.

Our View:Chudzinski interviewed with the 49ers for the job at offensive coordinator, and was also believed to be an option for the Buccaneers. The Jets were also interested in him as their potential quarterbacks coach.

Antonio Gates is slated for an MRI this week to determine if he sustained further damage to his sprained ankle during Sunday's loss to the Steelers at Heinz Field, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View:The elite tight end admitted that he could not cut or push off effectively in the loss, and the MRI will show if he may require surgery.

The AP reports that tight end Antonio Gates will play on Sunday, despite being listed as questionable with a high-ankle sprain.

Our View:Gates is still among the best tight ends in the game, even when he's not 100 percent. He finished the regular season with 60 catches and eight touchdowns.
