Yahoo.com reports that the four game suspension for Kevin Williams is likely to be dropped. The lawyers for the player are still trying to get a reduced fine.

Our View:Williams and his lawyers would like to avoid a six-figure fine, but the good news is that it appears the big tackle will be available for Week 1. Williams registered 62 tackles with 8.5 sacks in an injury shortened 2008.

Kevin Williams is expected to suspended for the first four games of the 2009 season after the NFL finally won the StarCaps case that had been held off since the end of last season, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Our View:Along with Williams, teammate Pat Williams, the Saints' Will Smith and Charles Grant, and free agent Deuce McAllister are also expected to receive a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. This news significantly downgrades Minnesota's defense for the first four weeks, as they'll be without their two star defensive tackles that played a huge factor into the team's No. 1-ranked rush defense in 2008. It also means that Kevin Williams, before a fringe IDP player, should not be drafted in all but the deepest IDP leagues and should not be picked up until Week 5.

A U.S. District judge did not make a ruling in Pat and Kevin Williams' case regarding the StarCaps suspension, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:The judge did not give a timetable as to when a ruling will be reached, but is expected to come soon.

Kevin Williams has been named the Vikings' defensive MVP for 2008, according to the Star Tribune. Adrian Peterson was named the offensive MVP, which was expected as he led the NFL in rushing and was Minnesota's only consistent weapon.

Our View:Williams was selected as he was an anchor for the Vikings' dominant run defense, with 61 tackles (46 solo), 8.5 sacks and one forced fumble. He beat out Jared Allen, who led the club with 14.5 sacks.

Kevin Williams and teammate Pat Williams have vowed to play in the season opener next year after having their suspensions for using a banned diuretic delayed by a judge's injunction, according to ESPN. "I hope it didn't distract my teammates much," Kevin Williams said. "But me, you still had to go out and play ball and that's the way I looked at it. We felt we were in the right or whatever, so it really didn't bother me." The case could take months to complete.
