Defensive linemen Kevin Williams and Pat Williams will both play in Week 1 despite their legal limbo with the NFL, according to ESPN.

Our View:The Williams brothers were both suspended four-games for positive steroid tests in 2008, but have their punishment on hold after they sued the NFL for allegedly violating Minnesota labor laws. They are "awaiting a ruling this week from the U.S. Court of Appeals that will determine whether their case can proceed in Minnesota state court," but the NFL has said they can both play this week regardless of the ruling.

The Associated Press reports that Judge Gary Larson will issue a ruling August 7th on whether Pat and Kevin Williams will be allowed to play for the Vikings this season.

Our View:The NFL wants to wait until the Federal Court matters are resolved before taking a stance. The players' lawyer stated that they can be ready for trial in a month.

A Minnesota judge has blocked the doping suspensions dealt to Pat and Kevin Williams, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:That means both defensive tackles will be able to play until the case is resolved. Judge Gary Larson has set a hearing for July 22.

Yahoo.com reports that the four game suspension for Kevin Williams is likely to be dropped. The lawyers for the player are still trying to get a reduced fine.

Our View:Williams and his lawyers would like to avoid a six-figure fine, but the good news is that it appears the big tackle will be available for Week 1. Williams registered 62 tackles with 8.5 sacks in an injury shortened 2008.

Kevin Williams is expected to suspended for the first four games of the 2009 season after the NFL finally won the StarCaps case that had been held off since the end of last season, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Our View:Along with Williams, teammate Pat Williams, the Saints' Will Smith and Charles Grant, and free agent Deuce McAllister are also expected to receive a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. This news significantly downgrades Minnesota's defense for the first four weeks, as they'll be without their two star defensive tackles that played a huge factor into the team's No. 1-ranked rush defense in 2008. It also means that Kevin Williams, before a fringe IDP player, should not be drafted in all but the deepest IDP leagues and should not be picked up until Week 5.
