Kyle Boller has been placed on the IR due to his shoulder injury (partially torn labrum), according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:His shoulder did not respond favorably to treatment, and the team decided to end his season. Todd Bouman fills his spot on the roster, and is set to back up rookie starter Joe Flacco this weekend.

It’s unclear whether Ravens passer Kyle Boller’s shoulder injury is a torn or partially torn labrum, but regardless, he’ll be out for two weeks minimum and perhaps the entire season, according to Pro Football Weekly. Earlier in the week we reported general manager Ozzie Newsome had confirmed the team's preference for the starting quarterback position was facing a serious injury but they believed he would not require surgery. It now appears the team is uncertain what the specific problem may be and the results have been troublesome for the entire offense.

Our View:Baltimore was hoping to keep rookie QB Joe Flacco on the bench for most, if not all, of this season. It will be much more difficult to accomplish that if Boller is lost for the season, leaving Flacco as the primary backup to Troy Smith, who is also on unsure footing after missing time with tonsillitis, and the recently signed Casey Bramlet serving as the No. 3. Baltimore coaches and medical staff will wait a few weeks to see how Boller is healing after he undergoes another set of tests on Friday and then make a judgment on whether or not he should have season-ending surgery.

Baltimore gerneral manager Ozzie Newsome confirmed that Ravens quarterback Kyle Boller is facing a serious shoulder injury, but does not need surgery at this time, according to the Baltimore Sun. "Kyle Boller could play again this season," Newsome said. "That could change, but this is good news."

Our View:With Boller out of the short-term picture, either Troy Smith or rookie Joe Flacco will be responsible for leading the Ravens offense.

The MRI results on Kyle Boller's right shoulder were not favorable, and the Ravens are currently seeking a second opinion, according to ESPN.com.

Our View:Boller has not been able to raise his right arm over his head, which is a bad thing for quarterbacks. This injury, coupled with Troy Smith's illness, means Joe Flacco could become the starter for Baltimore.

It appears there may be need for deeper concern about the undisclosed shoulder injury Baltimore quarterback Kyle Boller has suffered, according to the Baltimore Sun. When asked late yesterday afternoon if Boller's injury might be season ending, Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said that it was unconfirmed, and he would know more by Friday morning.

Our View:Asked if he had started shopping around for another quarterback to replace Boller, Newsome said no, and he wouldn't do anything until he got the report on Boller. The team may be working behind the scenes if they feel the situation is dire, but it would seem wise to wait and see what the training camp cuts from around the league may unleash. There will be some quality arms that could be available for hire, but only time will tell if the Ravens even need another passer. Until we have a confirmed report on Boller, everything is speculation. We'll keep you posted.

Neither Kyle Boller nor Troy Smith have impressed the Ravens' staff enough to pull ahead, and the competition for the starting job at quarterback remains tight, according to the Baltimore Sun. Coach John Harbaugh said he could wait to name a starter from anywhere after the next preseason game until five minutes before the opening kickoff in Week 1.

Our View:Both quarterbacks should be avoided as fantasy prospects. Rookie Joe Flacco has likely fallen out of the race.

Ravens quarterback Kyle Boller did not have a good start to the preseason. Though he completed 11-of-15 passes for 102 yards, he also threw an interception and lost a fumble as the Ravens beat New England.

Our View:None of the Ravens quarterbacks had a stellar evening, but turnovers have been Boller's problem, and he certainly didn't prove he could hold onto the ball today.
August 5, 2008
Kyle Boller will start at quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens in their preseason opener against the New England Patriots, according to the AP.

Our View:Coach John Harbaugh gave Boller the edge because of his experience, but look for the competition to heat up between Boller, Smith, and Flacco, as week one approaches.
July 31, 2008
Ravens quarterback Kyle Boller left the team's practice in the morning after suffering an apparent foot injury, but he was back on the field for the afternoon session, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:Boller is one of three candidates fighting to become the Ravens starter at QB, so he needs to stay healthy and get as many reps as he possibly can.
July 30, 2008
Kyle Boller's efficient play early in training camp has enhanced his chance to win the Ravens' starting quarterback job, according to Pro Football Weekly. Boller has outplayed second-year pro Troy Smith and rookie Joe Flacco in the early stages of camp, largely by limiting his mistakes.

Our View:There is little doubt Boller has helped his stock by limiting his errors early on. Of course, much can change in Baltimore's four preseason games, and the quarterbacks' performances in those games will be given significant weight by the coaching staff.
July 23, 2008
Don Banks of Sports Illustrated suggests that Kyle Boller "seems destined" to be the Ravens number three quarterback this season.

Our View:The top two quarterback spots are believed to be decided by Troy Smith and rookie Joe Flacco, leaving Kyle Boller third for clipboard duty.

The sentiment among Rototimes sources is that the starting quarterback job in Baltimore is Kyle Boller's to lose, but second-year signal caller Troy Smith has been impressive and has shown improvement in all areas of his game during minicamp.

Our View:Smith will make a run at the starting job, but unless he significantly outperforms the veteran during the preseason schedule, Boller is expected to be under center in Week 1.

Coach John Harbaugh says there will be open competition for the quarterback position in Baltimore, but veteran Kyle Boller will likely be the starter, according to the Sporting News. Boller has more experience than either second-year backup Troy Smith or rookie Joe Flacco, the Ravens' first-round draft pick.

Our View:Boller has the arm strength and good mobility. His problems have been his accuracy on short passes, and his poor decision-making, especially inside the red zone. Maybe new offensive coordinator Cam Cameron can come up with a way to slow things down for Boller.

The Baltimore Ravens, entering their first season without Brian Billick at the helm, have wasted no time in bolster the offense and adding competitive options to the offensive skill positions on the roster. The Ravens started by trading up in the 1st round of the NFL Draft, swapping with the Houston Texans to move in to the 18th-overall pick of the draft and using that pick to select Delaware QB Joe Flacco. With their 2nd-round pick, the Ravens continued to target offense by adding Rutgers RB Ray Rice.

Our View:Fans in Baltimore may be a bit shocked with the selection of Rice, but more importantly, the consensus seemed to submit the Ravens, facing growing age on the opposite side of the ball, might seek to add new defensive prospects to the roster. The need at QB is undeniable with veteran Steve McNair retiring and Kyle Boller, all but void of proven NFL ability, slated to start with little-to-no competition from the backup ranks. Flacco, sporting one of the top grades in this draft with outstanding physical measurements and an arm scouts have salivated over, may be just what the doctor ordered for the team moving forward. Scouts report Flacco may be the most intelligent player in the draft and is more than capable of picking up the Baltimore playbook in short order, giving the fans in Baltimore more than enough reason for optimism looking forward.
April 26, 2008
The Baltimore Ravens traded the No. 8 overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft to the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 26th overall pick, two third round sections (71st and 89th overall) and fourth round pick (123rd overall).

Our View:After the Atlanta Falcons chose quarterback Matt Ryan in the three hole, Baltimore decided to move down and accumulate additional picks.
April 19, 2008
The Ravens will use the no-huddle as part of their offense this year even with the retirement of Steve McNair, this according to the Baltimore Sun. Kyle Boller and Troy Smith will continue to work with the new offensive scheme.

Our View:Neither one of the remaining QBs give us the warm and fuzzies, so it remains to be seen how they will take to the new offensive philosophy brought into mini-camp by new coach John Harbaugh.

With Brian Billick out of Baltimore, the Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti said he was beginning a search for the next Hall of Fame coach according to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com. Bisciotti interviewed everyone available, and even considered veteran NFL head man Marty Schottenheimer before taking what Yasinskas considered, an unconventional route. Bisciotti hired John Harbaugh, who never had been a head coach on any level. While it's a thin limb to climb out on when projecting Hall of Fame careers, the report notes that "... if there's a potential Hall of Famer among the NFL's four new hires this year, it will be Harbaugh or somebody with a similar unheralded background." Expect Harbaough to go young moving Kyle Boller into the starting role in 2008.
