The Steelers have opted to place their franchise tag on Jeff Reed, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:Pittsburgh didn't have anyone else worth using the tag on following their signing of Casey Hampton and thus decided to use it on Reed, the NFL's most accurate field goal kicker over the past three seasons. Reed will earn $2,814,000 in 2010 if a long-term deal is not worked out.

The Steelers are expected to place their transition tag on kicker Jeff Reed, according to Jason LaCanfora's (NFL Network) twitter page.

Our View:Reed would be worth signing to a new deal, as he converted 88.5 percent of his field goal attempts over his last three campaigns with Pittsburgh. That is not an easy feat, considering that Heinz Field is among the toughest places to kick in the NFL.

Jeff Reed would like to re-sign with the Steelers, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:Reed is certainly worthy of a new deal, as he made 88.5 percent of his field goal attempts over his last three seasons. That is impressive, considering that Heinz Field is among the hardest places to kick in the NFL.
November 15, 2009
Jeff Reed scored all the points in the Steelers' Week 10 loss to the Bengals. He hit field goals of 28, 33, 34 and 35 yards.

Our View:The four short field goals tell the story of the game. The Steelers could not punch it into the end zone when they got close, and it's tough to win when you settle for threes.
October 20, 2009
Jeff Reed will kick for the Steelers this Sunday despite his recent arrest for taking a "fighting stance" with police officers, amongst other things, according to ESPN.

Our View:Reed sure causes a lot of trouble - never a good thing for a kicker. Hines Ward getting in trouble would be one thing for the Steelers' brass, but a kicker? Don't expect the team to put up with much more nonsense from their placekicker.
