As expected, the Jets placed Jesse Chatman on IR Tuesday. He suffered a knee injury on special teams in Sunday's win over the Chiefs.

Our View:Considering that Chatman touched the ball just seven times all year, we doubt fantasy owners will be missing him much.

Jesse Chatman is expected to miss the rest of the season, according to the New York Daily News. He was injured on a kickoff late in Sunday's game against Kansas City.

Our View:Chatman didn't have much fantasy value, but if you have him on your team, it's safe to drop him at this point.

Jesse Chatman has been activated by the Jets after serving a four-game suspension, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View:Chatman will serve as the third running back behind starter Thomas Jones and primary backup Leon Washington, but Chatman is physical with solid size, and could potentially work in short-yardage and snipe some goal-line scores, giving him some fantasy value for deeper leagues.

The Jets were granted a roster exemption to add Jesse Chatman after serving his four game suspension according to NFL.com. “He’ll be able to work through the week with a (roster) exemption,” said Jets coach Eric Mangini. “Then starting next week, we’ll have to make some kind of decision in terms of the roster. But that, again, won’t be until next week.”

Our View:Chatman averaged four yards per carry on 126 attempts last season. He will not get many more attempts this season as long as running backs Thomas Jones and Leon Washington remain healthy.

Jets running back Jesse Chatman was suspended four games by the NFL for violating the league's steroids policy, according to the New York Post. However, Chatman's agent, Brett Tessler, claims that his client did not test positive for any substance, saying, "Jesse never tested positive for a steroid or any other performance-enhancing drug. Near the end of last season, the league claimed he had a diuretic in his system that they said could also be used as a masking agent."

Our View:Chatman had a nice preseason and will resume his position as a backup on the squad when he is eligible to return on September 29.

In response to a report in the Newark Star-Ledger that the Jets have released running back Jesse Chatman, Chatman’s agent has contacted Mike Florio to offer his take on the situation. "The Jets did not release Jesse Chatman, nor will they,” agent Brett Tessler said. “And they are not trying to trade him like another paper reported," according to Pro Football Talk.

Our View:We tend to believe this report is false as well. Chatman was a force in the preseason and finished as the top rusher and receiver in the preseason finale. There is every reason to believe the Jets will find room for him on the roster, short of proven commodities at the position and finding value in Chatman as a short-yardage receiver. When the Jets announce their final roster cuts later today, we will see if Chatman is there.

Jesse Chatman has been released by the Jets, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View:This is surprising, as he rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown on Thursday night against the Eagles and led the team in rushing through the preseason with 164 yards and a touchdown on 51 carries. The team now just has Thomas Jones and Leon Washington at running back.
August 28, 2008
Jesse Chatman had a huge outing on Thursday night as he torched the Eagles for 180 total yards thanks to 29 carries for 93 yards and six receptions for 87 yards. He also scored once on the ground.

Our View:Those are numbers we are used to hearing from the Eagles Brian Westbrook and not a Jets backup. Despite the effort, Chatman figures to be no better than third on the clubs depth chart at running back behind Thomas Jones and Leon Washington.

Jesse Chatman has inked a deal with the Jets, according to the Miami Herald. It is a one-year deal and will keep him in the AFC East where he performed well at times for the Dolphins following Ronnie Brown's season ending injury last season.

Jesse Chatman will visit the New York Jets this week, according to FOX Sports. After being out of football for almost two seasons, Chatman resurrected his career last year - starting six games for Miami, while rushing for 515 yards and one touchdown. The Jets already have two solid running backs (Thomas Jones and Leon Washington) on the roster, but Chatman can also play special teams. Meanwhile, if Chatman were to leave Miami, it could pave the way for running back Ricky Williams to serve as the main backup to Ronnie Brown in 2008.
