Shaun Hill is not likely to get another chance at starting with the 49ers, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View:The team likes him as a back-up, but thinks that is what he is best suited for. Since taking over the starting job, Alex Smith has completed passes at a higher rate, averaged more yards per pass attempt and taken less sacks. He will finish out the season as the team's starter, barring injury.

Shaun Hill was benched in the game against Houston at the start of the third quarter, and has been replaced by Alex Smith.

Our View:Hill had completed 6-of-11 passes for 45 yards with no touchdowns or turnovers in the first half. The 49ers are down 21-0, so head coach Mike Singletary is obviously looking for a spark from Smith in the second half. Also, it's been confirmed that this benching is performance related, and not due to an injury.

Shaun Hill was a disappointment in Sunday's 45-10 loss to the Falcons at Monster Park, as he only completed 15-of-38 passes for 198 yards, with no touchdowns and one interception. He fared better on the ground, as he led the team with 53 rushing yards on four carries.

Our View:Hill cooled off after throwing two touchdown passes in each of his previous two games. The 49ers have their bye in Week 6.
October 4, 2009
Shaun Hill completed 14-of-24 passes for 152 yards and two scores on Sunday, as the 49ers shutout the Rams.

Our View:It was Hill's second straight two-touchdown game. He could be in line for a few more if Frank Gore is forced to miss more games with injury.

Shaun Hill completed 15-of-25 passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 3 loss to Minnesota.

Our View:Despite the two scoring tosses, Hill is still only a boardline backup in 12-team leagues. Even with Frank Gore exiting in the first quarter, the 49ers still ran a balanced offensive scheme, so Hill has limited upside.
