Vikings coach Brad Childress has stated that his team has no interest in Brian Westbrook, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View:Chester Taylor has left for Chicago, and the Vikings recently lost out on landing LaDainian Tomlinson. Thus, one might have assumed Westbrook would be the next back the team would pursue, especially since it'd give him a chance to reunite with Childress, his former offensive coordinator. It looks, however, that Westbrook's two concussions from last season will scare Minnesota away, not to mention that the turf the Vikings play on wouldn't cater well to Westbrook's fragile knees.

Brian Westbrook has been officially released by the Eagles, according to Howard Balzer's twitter page.

Our View:Minnesota is viewed as a potential landing spot for Westbrook, especially after Chicago signed away Chester Taylor today.

A source with knowledge of Brian Westbrook's knee issues has stated that Westbrook would be ill advised to sign with a team where he wouldn't get to play and practice on grass, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Les Bowen.

Our View:This could potentially take dome teams, such as the Vikings, out of the running for Westbrook's services. With the fragility of the veteran back's knees, this report seems to make sense.

Brian Westbrook is not ruling out signing with the Giants after being cut by the Eagles, according to the Staten Island Advance.

Our View:Westbrook would see his former team twice in the regular season if he signed with New York, and noted that he is also open to joining the Cowboys or Redskins. He is not ready to hang up his cleats after failing to stay healthy over the past few years in Philadelphia, and his fantasy value will depend on where he lands and his role.

The National Football Post reports that running back Brian Westbrook will likely struggle to pass a physical due to his ailing knee and ankle.

Our View:The good news is that the concussions appear to be behind him (as much as concussions can be), but the bad news is that Westbrook is no longer an every-down back, or even a lead back. He should drum up plenty of interest on the open market, but will likely have to settle for a third-down job.

According to Jeff McLane on Twitter, the Ravens are interested in impending free agent running back Brian Westbrook.

Our View:Frankly, the Ravens are interested in anyone with a little offensive potential right now, so we wouldn't get too excited about this. With Ray Rice a solid pass-catching back, it seems frivolous to add Westbrook at all, as he would simply have no role to fill.

Brian Westbrook said in an interview Friday that he'd love to play for the Bears, according to ESPN.com. "I would love to play in Chicago; I would love to play anywhere," Westbrook said.

Our View:Keep in mind the interview was with ESPN 1000 in Chicago; Westbrook probably would have said a similar statement about any team if he was being interviewed for a broadcast in their given city. Westbrook is sure to receive interest in teams looking for a third-down back and you have to assume he'll opt to play for a contender, something that the Bears may or may not be.
February 25, 2010
Brian Westbrook told Dan Patrick on Thursday that he was "surprised" the Eagles didn't "give me an opportunity to renegotiate things," according to Sports Illustrated.

Our View:He insists that he does not harbor any ill-will toward the only organization he has ever known, however. Expect at least a few teams to be willing to take a flier on the formerly dominant back this offseason.
February 24, 2010
Brian Westbrook said on a Philadelphia radio station on Wednesday that it is highly unlikely he would return to the Eagles for a reduced price in 2010, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View:It is equally unlikely that the Eagles would want him back. Both parties have simply reached a point where it is best to move on.
February 24, 2010
Brian Westbrook has confirmed that he wants to continue playing in 2010, and says several teams have already touched base with him, according to Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News.

Our View:Westbrook could likely be a great part time back in a lot of places, and as long as he is willing to take part-time money, he should draw lots of offers. Stay tuned.
February 23, 2010
The Vikings could show interest in signing Brian Westbrook, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View:Keep in mind that Westbrook hasn't officially been released yet, only informed by the Eagles that he will in fact be cut on March 5, though Westbrook has been given permission to talk to other teams in the meantime. The Vikings would seem to be a nice fit for Westbrook; you have to believe he'll go to a contender, and they run a form of the West Coast offense he's familiar with. With Chester Taylor possibly on his way out, the Vikings could be in the market for a third-down back to supplement Adrian Peterson, and Westbrook would seem to be the ideal candidate given his pass-catching prowess, ability to pick up blitzing defenders and veteran leadership.

In an unexpected move, the Eagles have released long-time running back Brian Westbrook, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Our View:Apparently the club had simply had enough of his unreliability. Once among the best players in all of football, Westbrook appeared in just 22 games the past two seasons, including only eight in 2009. His 274 rushing were his fewest since his rookie season. At 30 years of age, it's not a sure thing he will be able to find a team to take a flier on him, unless he somehow resembles the Westbrook of old in workouts this offseason. Don't count on it.

"Unless something crazy happens," Brian Westbrook will not retire this offseason, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View:"My goal is to get back out there and play football again," he said. Fairly unambiguous, no? Unless a doctor advises him not to suit up in 2010, he will. That being said, he is obviously a shell of his former self, and should be avoided in the early rounds of all fantasy drafts next season.
February 9, 2010
Brian Westbrook isn't likely to retire this offseason, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View:In his own words, he is "just trying to enjoy this offseason and trying to get ready for this next upcoming season." With his lingering knee, ankle and head (concussion) problems, don't expect him to be a big fantasy contributor in 2010.
February 8, 2010
Brian Westbrook recently revealed that he was not completely healed from his first concussion this season when he came back to play three weeks later, subsequently suffering a second concussion, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Our View:Children and adults alike should take Westbrook's story as an example that head injuries are nothing to joke around with. As far as Westbrook's future, he failed to comment on whether or not he'll opt to retire this offseason, though there's no way the Eagles will stand pat and pay him the $7.25 million that he's currently due in 2010. He'll have to re-negotiate his contract if he wishes to stay in Philly.
January 27, 2010
Contrary to reports that Brian Westbrook will retire this offseason, Donovan McNabb has stated that Westbrook plans to keep on playing for the Eagles, according to NFL.com. "He looks forward to getting back," McNabb said of Westbrook. "All the talk people are saying on retirement or whatever it may be, it's all false."

Our View:It'd certainly be more insightful to hear from Westbrook himself, but McNabb seems to know what he's talking about when it comes to Westbrook's plans for the future. If Westbrook does indeed come back next season, you can expect it to be as a complement to LeSean McCoy, not a starter, meaning his days of fantasy relevance may be over regardless.
January 19, 2010
Brian Westbrook's troublesome left knee could be what ultimately forces him to retire this offseason, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View:Westbrook is believed to be seeking out different medical opinions as to what to do. Unless he is unequivocally not allowed to play by his doctors, expect him to suit up for one more season in 2010, either in Philadelphia or elsewhere.
January 18, 2010
Brian Westbrook seems likely to retire from his NFL career at some point this offseason, according to Pro Football Talk.

Our View:The super-crafty but oft-injured back is due to earn $7.25 million in Philadelphia next year under his current contract and will certainly be cut by the Eagles at that figure. With his constantly nagging knee issues and current recovery from a concussion, Westbrook also could potentially have trouble passing a physical should another team pursue him. Westbrook was one of the best all-around backs this past decade, but it looks like we may have seen the last of his time on the field. We'll be sure to hear more about his status throughout the offseason.
January 8, 2010
Brian Westbrook is not expected to be a major part of Philadelphia's offensive attack against the Cowboys on Saturday, according to PhillyBurbs.com.

Our View:Westbrook will get at least some portion of Philly's snaps but will be splitting time with LeSean McCoy and Leanord Weaver, and thus does not make for a strong commodity in fantasy playoff leagues.
January 7, 2010
Adam Caplan of Scout.com puts the chances of Brian Westbrook retiring this offseason at better than 50-50.

Our View:Westbrook has long been one of the most injury prone players in the league, and at age 30, usually a turning point age in the careers of running backs, he could be headed for a steep decline.
January 3, 2010
Brian Westbrook was largely unimpressive on Sunday, gaining just 17 yards on five carries and 20 yards on four catches in a loss to Dallas.

Our View:Westbrook has been essentially worthless since returning from injury. He has failed to gain 100 yards or get into the end zone since coming back and the Eagles have relied heavily on the pass as a result.
