Updating an earlier story, Brian Westbrook's newly signed deal with the Eagles appears to include an additional $13 million over what he was scheduled to make the next couple of seasons, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View:Westbrook will make $21 million over the next three seasons and that he cold earn up to $24 million if certain individual performances levels are reached. None of this is official yet, but a "source" for the paper stands behind the figures.

Brian Westbrook has agreed to terms with the Philadephia Eagles on a new contract Friday, according to the AP. The Eagles did not disclose details of the agreement with Westbrook, who had been seeking a contract similar to the eight-year, $60 million contract that LaDainian Tomlinson signed with the San Diego in 2004. Coach Andy Reid said, "As I’ve said many times, I believe Brian Westbrook is the best running back in football. He can do it all from that position, whether it’s running, catching the football or blocking."

Our View:Westbrook got his new deal out of the way, and should resume his role as a top-5 fantasy running back this season.

Eagles rusher Brian Westbrook spoke with reporters today and indicates he is optimistic the Eagles and his agent will reach terms on a new contract agreement soon, according to PhiladelphiaEagles.com. While the Eagles' star running back focuses on football, his agent and the team's front office are working on the specifics to ensure a deal gets worked out. "I'm positive. I'm really optimistic about how things have been going," Westbrook said during his press conference on Wednesday.

Our View:Westbrook said that he could play as much as a quarter-and-a-half on Friday in Pittsburgh, but his time on the field hinges on what head coach Andy Reid wants. The preseason is not a time where No. 36 tries to shine. Fantasy owners agree and would prefer to see those efforts saved for games that matter. We'll keep you posted on his efforts to get paid.

Running back Brian Westbrook was excused from training camp practices on Saturday due to flu-like symptoms, according to Philly.com.

Our View:Coach Andy Reid sent Westbrook off the field fearing he would be contagious. We didn't want fantasy owners to worry, but it will likely be a few days before you see Westbrook struggling out in the heat (and that might be a relief for owners hoping to see their top commodity resting rather than straining).

Brian Westbrook stated that he wants a new contract before the start of the regular season, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Westbrook is in camp, but when asked if he would participate in the first preseason game, August 8 at Pittsburgh, Westbrook said he would cross that bridge when he came to it.

Our View:Westbrook is the focal point of the Eagles' offense, and the team intends to ink him to a new deal, but it remains to be seen if it comes prior to Week 1 of the regular season.
