Player Notes
December 27, 2009
Maurice Morris rushed the ball 18 times in Sunday's loss to the 49ers, but gained just 37 yards. He also caught four passes for 29 yards.

Our View:Morris exploded last week for 126 yards and a score on 17 carries, so his production this week was a disappointment to say the least. He has ability and the starting job, with Kevin Smith on IR, but he's too volatile a player to be counted on in fantasy leagues. Consider him a flex spot at best against the Bears next week.

Maurice Morris ran wild in Sunday's 31-24 loss to the Cardinals at Ford Field, as he gained 126 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. His touchdown covered 64 yards, and he also caught five passes for 35 receiving yards.

Our View:Morris topped 100 rushing yards for the first time this season, and scored a touchdown for the first time since Week 3 (against Washington). He is worth a look if you need help at running back, but will be facing a tough San Francisco defense in Week 16.

Maurice Morris is expected to fill Kevin Smith's vacated role as Detroit's feature back the rest of the season, according to the Detroit Free Press. "He basically gets everything that Kevin was getting," head coach Jim Schwartz said of Morris.

Our View:Morris might be worth picking up, although neither Arizona nor San Francisco the next two weeks present a viable matchup. Only the most desperate of owners should consider Morris an option.
December 13, 2009
Maurice Morris carried the ball three times for 11 yards on Sunday and added two receptions for nine yards.

Our View:It was a typical mediocre day for Morris, though he could be thrust into a much more featured role with Kevin Smith suffering a knee injury at the end of the game that looked serious. If Smith is out the rest of the year, Aaron Brown would likely figure into the mix as well, though Morris would make for the better pickup if you're desperate for a running back.

The Lions are considering adopting a two-running back system, with Maurice Morris taking on an increased role in the offense, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:Kevin Smith's carries would be scaled back a bit. So far in 2009, Morris is averaging 4.1 yards per carry on 26 carries, while Smith is averaging just 3.1 on 125. It's hard to envision this making Morris fantasy viable, considering the state of the Lions offense (25th in total offense), but if you are desperate for a running back, he would at least be worth a flier as a flex play or bye-week back.
